Safeway

I just wanted to give a big shout out to Melissa, the one sent to empty the pop can machines.
Both were full and there was a line of us but she busted her tail to get the garage door up, forklift contraption out and empty both machines and all their boxes of glass, plastic and cans.
I shop here often and use the recycle center each time I come so I was grateful that she came down and got the machines working for all of us that had full carts to turn in.

This is my go-​to store due to it’s location, so I frequent it. There’s always parking, the store is always pretty clean, they have good sales on meat (buy one get two free or BOGO), however there are a few issues.
First, in the morning, around 7:30 a.m., they only have one checker and the self-​check out lanes don’t open until 9 a.m. Which causes there to always be a line of about 5 customers or so. I get that you don’t schedule as many employees in the morning, but there are always associates stocking the shelves – so clearly, someone can help out until it slows down. So this turns my trip into what could take 5 minutes into a 10 – 15 minute trip… I know, first world problems.
Secondly, I was there this morning (5÷6÷16) grabbing my lunch for work. I walk in and was greeted with a «good morning» by one of the employees, I replied with the same. A moment goes by and I hear the same employee say, «Or not» and I was probably a good twenty feet away from him so he didn’t even attempt to actually talk under his breath. I walked back over to him and said, «Actually, I did say good morning to you.» Realizing he made a giant ass of himself, he apologized. Regardless, even if I didn’t respond, you should never say anything rude back to a customer! Control yourself.
Lastly, the layout of this store is a little wonky. It’s difficult to find things even though I am literally at this store all the time.
As a result of these things, 2 stars.

Nice bright, clean store, with good covered parking lot. A decent selection of organics (produce & meat) and my favorite a Starbucks Coffee inside. They open up early & stay open late. The pharmacy has been SO much easier to deal with i switched my prescriptions here from Fred Meyer Burlingame. Some food prices are a bit higher, but the convenience of getting in & out quickly, good parking lot & friendly staff make up for it.

Great place to shop for kosher fresh food. Brand new store with many Israelis products. Good to shop during Jewish holidays. A little expensive but clean and testy

Wow! Coming from Montana, this Safeway is awesome.
Parking garage is on the bottom. Handy dandy cart escalators will get your cart to the bottom no problem.
I was really impressed with the supermarket sushi here. It was fabulous. Better than most sushi restaurants in Montana :-) Deli is really great. A variety of Mexican, Chinese, American, Italian… what we tasted was good… Oarnge Chicken, Lemon Caper Pasta. Not bad for a supermarket.
Friendly staff, a little slow… but I’m on vacation so no problem.

I think the new store is well-​designed and pleasant to be in. Handy grab-​and-​go items, including chilled drinks, as you walk in, and then immediately you’re in a well-​presented produce section. You can easily zip left to the deli from there without having to traverse the entire store if all you want is a drink, a peach, and a sandwich. Like the Fred Meyer next door, a robust kosher section. The parking underneath is nice and unscary. I think it is the most pleasant Safeway to be in in the entire area. The quality and price of their non-​commissary baked goods is great, and I have never been disappointed with produce.
However, they — not unlike all Fred Meyers at the moment — are woefully understaffed. Do not go there early in the morning. Ever. Please. Initially, it is gorgeously relaxing, as you savor having an entire gently-​lit store almost to yourself. A calm, beautiful start to what will undoubtedly be an equally calm, beautiful da—
No. The self-​checkers are not turned on, because there needs to be a checker to mind the self-​checkers, and they don’t schedule for that at that time, because there is no one there at that time — except for the people who are, with their sad handfuls of eat-​today items hoping for a speedy exit. Consequently, you and the three other saps thinking they could quickly nab their bagels, yogurt, and apple, will stand in line for a minimum of ten minutes, with my most trying experience tapping out at over 25 minutes. In a line. With six items of my own and a couple guys in front of me with three to four of their own. No nectarine is worth that. And I really like nectarines.

Every time I go to the deli and a certain person is working she is extremely extremely rude. She has terrible service and is always grumpy and my food never comes out right. The last time I was there I overhear her talking about me and how my generation is always on their phones and it’s so disrespectful as she and another costumer glance my way. It was so disrespectful I now leave the store when I see she’s working. It’s not worth the half assed sandwich.

Bought green beans: looked ok. They powderized and disintegrated after cooking (and I know how to cook)
Bought scallops: $ 20. They looked plump, white, fresh. No odor. I knew it was risky (usu buy seafood at new seasons) –after a nice marinade in lemon olive oil salt pepper fresh thyme, we grilled them– RANK. Bitter, chlorinated, bleached tasting. Any cook knows scallops should be sweet and tender.
I returned them. At least they were nice about it. Offered my money back (which I gladly took) and a big bag of «fresh green beans.» I kindly declined.
Never going back. Even with the $ 5 gift card I was given.
They have too much stock and not enough customers leading to old food.
I wouldn’t feed their food to my dog.

Mixed feelings.
While the groceries are great, fresh meats, greens and fruit, the bottle return area is worse than any store nearby.
Soda is food group. So I have tons of cans to return, since I don’t live close by, I don’t come often.
I called from my cell phone, the customer service staff said they will be sending someone to fix the issue right away. So I waited 15 to 20 minutes and left. My limbs were hurting. So I re-​packed my car with all the cans and left that area.
I’m not in a wheelchair, but I’m medically handicapped, I have a charcot foot.
I parked my car closer to the entrance of the store, I notice there was staff, rearranging the carts, then as I head up to the second level there was plenty of staff re-​arrenging the fruits, veggies, on the hallways, at the cash registers, but none went to the bottle return.
Exactly when I came back out of the store, a man went in to fix the issue. From my point of view, 30 to 40 minutes later, is way too long to wait.
Suggestion:
They should have the technology to know when their machines are out of service. They should have an alarm box that let’s them know when something is wrong.
This will prevent customers frustration and bad reviews.

5 a. m — 1 a.m. hours in Multnomah Village? That alone gets them 5 stars. But, I’ve been in here since it was remodeled and it’s nice.
I must admit I have stopped at Fred Meyer in Burlingame more often, as it is on the way home from work, but so is Safeway because we live in Garden Home. Especially given the early and late hours, I really appreciate the Safeway being there. Lamb’s Thriftway is my territory, but will make more of an effort to stop here.
I called tonight and Lamb’s did not have a Sony Playstation Store gift card I need but Safeway does! Chalk one up for Safeway!

I’m very pleased with the new Safeway. I like the Kosher selections and the seating area is very nice. The old Safeway was creepy. I’d only go there if I had no other options and I always felt uncomfortable. Plus they had a merger organics section at the old one.
This new and improved store has a lot of wonderful options: a fabulous deli, beautiful floral arrangements, a great kosher section, gluten free section, and terrific friendly staff.
I only took away one star for the way they handled the recent power outage. They threw away all of their refrigerated and frozen foods. That includes meats and dairy products. Because their power was out for 72 hours due to the wind storm. I wish they had a better plan instead of wasting all of that food.
All in all this store is great! I will shop here again.

Open until 1 A.M.
This newly remodeled store is a big improvement from the former safeway store that was in the same location. It is cleaner, brighter, and more spacious than their former store. They now have a large well lit parking area under the store. It is still one of the smaller stores in the metro area. The selection isn’t the worst but they certainly won’t have everything you need at this location. It is good for a quick stop off to grab a couple of things on your way home from work, but not for a weekly major shopping trip. The prices are a little higher than other stores in the area. They do send coupons in the mail and have a gas program. We mainly use this location as a convenience store on our way down the road. Not a bad stop off late night.

I LOVE this Safeway! Hesitated to review it because I enjoy not having it too crowded.
Since they’ve opened, they’ve kept improving. Tons of organic, gluten-​free, kosher, and deli items. And super produce and a new bulk food section. Excellent, friendly staff, great prices and a very attractive store with great lighting. I really like the layout and parking under the store too.
I used to do most of my shopping down the street at Freddy’s. But Freddy’s never has small carts and they run out of good paper bags with handles all. the. time. Plus it’s really crowded and parking can be difficult.
In contrast, Safeway always has small carts, parking, good bags and not crowded.
Also, there’s a Starbucks inside and a great patio for enjoying your coffee or purchases. Check out their Safeway app too for great customized coupons.

This sucker was under construction for ages, and it’s this big behemoth. So, you’d think it would be huge, but it’s either the same size it was before or just slightly bigger. It’s certainly a lot more modern and nicer looking. Plus, it has one of those Coca Cola Freestyle machines. I like those.
Their magazines are updated quickly, and the store is darn clean. Even the bathrooms. The OTC (over the counter) pharmacy choices are kind of lacking. There’s one long aisle of them. And they’ve got a couple bays of gluten free stuff and some organics in the fruits and veggies. But there’s not a huge selection of natural/​organics.
It does have a great kosher section, including bakery, deli, and grocery items. Possibly even a butcher, but I’m not positive on that. In any case, it’s a pretty good selection. Even if you’re not a Jew, you know you want Jewish baked goods, no? Yes.
The folks are nice. The store is decent. It’s just no Wegman’s. I really want a Wegman’s in Portland. You better hope that doesn’t happen, Behemoth Safeway.

The look and layout are great with the covered parking lot. The store is overall one of the better looking Safeways I have seen.

This newly-​remodeled Safeway looks very nice, but unfortunately it seems to suffer the same woes as other Safeways in the Portland area. The bakery section is very limited, and doesn’t seem to offer much selection. They were out of French bread on one of the three trips I’ve made here. The meat counter selection is pathetic, especially compared to the Fred Meyer down the street.
Though they’ve been open a few months now, business still seems to be pretty slow. I imagine most people are pretty faithful to the Fred Meyer down the road, and the only traffic Safeway is getting are Fred Meyer defectors or those who are just curious about the new store. I will say, the quality and selection in the produce section is better than at Fred Meyer. The Safeway produce (namely the organic produce) seems to last a few days longer than the stuff I buy at Fred Meyer. And since business is still pretty slow, there are plenty of people on staff with little to do to help you, and the parking situation seems ample.

Just opened up about a week ago. They tore the old Safeway down to the ground and rebuilt this store. Looks a little daunting from the street. It’s not though! You enter street level parking. Ride the escalator to the second floor and enter the new Safeway. Multiple types of Deli Food, Even a Real Kosher Deli with Kosher Cooks! I would avoid the sushi. I won’t trust them again. If you don’t know what dry cold rice with crap fish tastes like. Get some. You’ll see!
The store is big but not warehouse like. Big isles. Lots of great looking vegetables and other foods. Check out was a breeze, even as busy as they were. Then when you leave. They have an escalator for your shopping cart. I sent an empty down for fun. Next time, I’m riding it down!

I’ve been counting the days until the new Safeway on Barbur would open.
I’d shopped (if you want to call it that), a handful of times at the old one and was happy to see this new structure.
I was able to walk here, so no worry about parking, but it looked like a cluster opening day.
NEW, NEW, NEW, samples galore. Friendly staff that seemed engaged and happy.
I found everything I was looking for, it took a bit of wandering around — — and I was surprised no one asked if I needed help finding something. Heck! no matter, I hate asking for help.
Almost got drunk at the beer and wine tables. lol.
Produce is huge, upfront and somewhat expansive.
U-​Scans present — no waiting! Starbucks. Extra seating area.
Parking structure below looked relatively roomy.
