Today I went into sellwood cycle having very little idea of what bike to buy. I haven’t been on a bike in YEARS but anxious to get a bike and start riding again. I was greeted promptly and the nice guy (cant remember his name sorry!) answered my questions that I had and showed me the various options and explained the use for each bike style which was very helpful! After looking around I decided to take the Giant 2 escape out for a ride. The guy helped me before I went out and made some adjustments and I was off. Loved the bike and when I returned Joel came over and helped me decide if it was a good fit and the right size bike for me. He was extremely helpful and answered all my questions. I am very happy with my new bike and will be going to this shop for all my bike needs! Thanks sellwood cycle!

They have great customer service. Do a great job tuning up my bike

I have bought bikes and had them serviced here since 2008. They have really good and experienced service techs, who walk me through what services and repairs are needed or not needed. Nothing but positive experiences from day 1 and good to support local small businesses. They don’t have a parking lot but ample street parking around especially on the side streets.

Top notch! I had a junky old schwinn cruiser rebuilt by these guys. I basically said, «make it look pretty cool, but don’t go crazy». They finished the job on time and on budget and the results were great, plus they didn’t try to make me feel like a tool for not being a «real» cyclist.

This is not a typical bike shop. It is special for a lot of reasons. Their primary business is service and repair and they are incredible at it. Because of that they have a lot of customers. Sometimes there is a wait for an appointment.
I’ve been coming here for two years and have had my expectations consistently exceeded by Sellwood Cycle Repair. Not only has all the repair work done been of the highest quality but they also are always providing me options to defer unnecessary maintenance or providing parts options that lower cost without impacting performance.
If you care about your bike as much as I do you should bring it to Sellwood Cycle Repair for service.

Sellwood Cycle Repair knows service. I went in looking to get a new road bike without a lot of knowledge on what I needed or even what I preferred. Despite it being less than 30 minutes before closing, they worked with me extensively to formulate the ideal bike for me. They didn’t have it in stock, but ordered it and promised me I’d be riding in a couple of days.
I went back yesterday with a head full of regret. I didn’t splurge on the disc brakes and wanted to see if it was too late to upgrade. The folks at SCR were super accommodating, ensuring me I was’t walking out of there without the perfect bike regardless of what had been ordered. They humored me while I road several bikes around the block before opting for the Dew Plus. Despite it again being particularly close to closing time, they got the seat shortened, a rack installed, and lights put on. Solid.

I remember over 12 years ago when I first moved to the hood, this was a little teeny shop more like a community cycling center even then I was able to get all the things I needed to over-​haul my bike. Speed forward years later and a new fancier bike later and they now occupy a huge, beautiful space a block long on 13^th. The staff is super helpful the minute you walk through the door, and they still have a great selection of used bikes like back in the day but now carry much more including family bikes like the yuba which trek my neighborhood often with the kids. The beauty of Sellwood is Springwater trail and with the Tillicum opening in Sept, this shop is on my way to my work commute which is practically car free.

Awesome bike shop! Hands down, the best service I’ve received in a Portland area shop. Over the phone or in person they are always happy to help and talk about bikes to make sure I get taken care of. They have a good selection of new and used bikes and components and a nice rental fleet if you’re visiting from out of town or just want to try out a different type of bike for a few days. I highly recommend this shop whether you’re thinking of getting a bike for the first time or if you have a bunch of bikes and need good mechanics to keep them rolling.

Joel was so helpful in finding my wife and me the right bikes for us; we had an amazing experience. We plan to buy many of bikes from them!

Lots of folks seem to love the place, so maybe I just went on the wrong day and/​or dealt with the wrong guy. Anyway, initially it seemed friendly enough — I walked in, was greeted, told someone would be with me in a minute, etc. But the mechanic who examined my bike and «helped» me out was weirdly pissy and curt. Not a trace of warmth, humor, or even much personality. More than anything, I felt like I was inconveniencing him.
After visiting three area shops over a three-​day period (and chatting with staff at all three), well… Let’s just say that I look forward to revisiting Cyclepath and River City Bicycles.

Where to Start! Great Buncha guys. Cary helped me the whole time and was knowledgeable and attentive to my needs. I found out I needed a reservation for a MTB rental as none were available Cary puled some strings and had me one a few hours later… Superb. A few days later I returned the Bike. I decided to purchase a used bike from them. The transaction was smooth and got a great Deal. I had the Bike flown from PDX to ATX. When it arrived, they had packaged it like it was new… WHoa. What service. Obviously they really cared about me and my NEW purchase.
Anyway, If your in PDX looking for a laid back place to rent, Look these guys up.

Quite possibly the best bike shop in town. Genuine and knowledgable staff helped me with what I needed and were honest and thorough. My bike fits better than I could have imagined. Looking forward to patronizing sellwood cycle again soon!

Love this place. I bought a barely used Cannondale road bike here in 2009. Eric helped fit me to the bike. Pleasant, easygoing experience. I’ve never had any problems with the bike.
I just brought it back for a complete overhaul and they did an amazing job. They have expanded and hired quite a few additional staff. I will continue to bring my bike here because everyone is so friendly. Eric even remembered my name. Can’t beat that.

Bought a new chain for my bike, but was warned that I may need to replace the rear gears also if the bike began shifting on it own. I installed new chain and bike shifts on its own.
Went into Sellwood Bike Repair and they checked it out on the spot. Loosened up a tight chain link, and sent me on my way without charging me. Bike works great and I will bring all my bike related business to Sellwood Bike Repair.
They have always been helpful and never pushy.

I love this place! A friend recommended it to me to get a cyclocross bike. I went it, they let me try out the bike and even put on SPD pedals for me. Showed me how to change a tire (as I bought some road tires as well) and made me feel good about spending a lot of $ on a bike.
Since then I have brought my bike in multiple times to have it looked and fixed. They have either looked at it right there in front of me or fixed it same or next business day.
Everyone is always super friendly or helpful whenever I have gone in. I highly recommend!

A few too many «employees» hanging around. It felt uncomfortable to just look at the Bikes when they all stare at you. To spite the number of people «apparently» working there, they also seemed a fershnicked to have to talk with me… In the interest of full disclosure, I may not have appeared «cool enough.» in that my bike did have commuter bags…
I also have to be suspect of the advice I might get when the attendant who (reluctantly) helped me has been alive for less years than I have been a daily commuter.

The guys here were sweet and helpful. They set me up with the perfect bike for what I need to ride around Portland. Definitely going back for anything bike related.

On my ride into work, my pedal came off. I had stripped the threads so badly it wasn’t salvageable. I walked in, they told me the ways it could have possibly happened and how to help possibly prevent it in the future, but the whole crankshaft had to be replaced. They ordered it on the spot, and called me as soon as it came in.
Since they replaced the crankshaft, they also adjusted the dérailleur, made sure it was shifting properly, etc. Most importantly to me, they were completely fine with my hovering over the whole thing, asking questions and poking my nose around what they were doing. (Specifically, it was a mechanic named Matt.)
This is the first cycle shop I’ve gone to in the Portland area (I moved from out of state) but the prices were reasonably what I was expecting, the vibe was great, the bike works like a charm, and nobody made fun of the girl who replaced her bike pedal without using enough grease the first time and stripped her crankshaft. Will absolutely be giving them my business in the future.

These guys are great! Very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I came in after a coworker recommended them. It’s not hard for a cycle shop to be filled with a bunch of elitist cock-​smugglers so I’m happy Sellwood cycle is doing it differently. And that’s probably the reason it’s always so busy in there.
They took the time to work with me to find the right bike for me, even after I changed my mind several times.

I am sporting a rockin’ new Kona, and I have Sellwood Cycle Repair to thank.
I shopped around at a few bike shops, but ended up here for a few main reasons. First, they carry a pretty awesome and extensive selection of new and used bikes. Second, the service here is spectacular. They always seem to have like 12 people working at a time, so even on a busy, sunny Saturday, there are more than enough knowledgeable bike nuts around to answer your questions. They also don’t make you feel like your questions are stupid — even if a few of mine probably were ridiculous as I don’t know a whole lot about bikes (although I’m learning!) Third, they sell bikes on consignment. Although they may not have the largest selection of bike accessories and parts, this shop met all of my criteria in my quest to finally replace my old-​school mountain bike that never got to see any trails.
On my first visit and shopping excursion, I tried out a few used bikes, and then a few new within my specified price range. I was surprised with how trusting they are when you take a bike out for a test ride. I was just told where the nearest bike path was, and that the shop closed at six, so I should be back before then. No driver’s license required, no fingerprinting, just a friendly, «Enjoy your test ride!» As soon as I settled in to the seat of the Kona, I knew that was to be my next ride.
When I came back in a week later to buy, I was disappointed to find out they had sold their stock and I would have to wait a few days for the next shipment and for the bike to be built. I had also brought in my old mountain bike for them to sell on consignment, so I was finding myself without a ride for the next few days. I totally got amazing service by Erik and his team — inventorying my old bike and getting it ready for sale, taking my order on the new bike, and hooking me up with a comp road bike rental until my new shiny new ride was ready to pick up. I have been in enough bike shops to know this service level is definitely not the norm!
When I picked up my bike, it was the same deal. I needed fenders and a rack installed, and they were able to rush finish it so I didn’t have to make another trek across town. I am super happy with my purchase, and if Sellwood Cycle Repair was even remotely close to my house, I’d be in here for every bit of bike maintenance and upkeep.
