Small Friends School

I feel so fortunate a neighbor happened to recommend Small Friends to me when my oldest daughter was entering preschool! She had an amazing experience there and now my youngest is currently attending & loving it.
The teachers are engaged and creative; it’s awesome to watch them encourage the kids to freely explore and learn new things through play, activities & experiences. My daughter had some separation anxiety and they helped us through that in such a supportive and understanding way.
There is great care and effort put in to keeping the classroom dynamic & thematic and the kids really respond to it! The consistent routine to the day just works and reinforces the developmental skills they’re working on at this age. Also, the director of the school is highly organized, open and communicates beautifully to us as parents and to our children.
At first I was unsure if I wanted a preschool that was a partial co-​op, thinking I might not have enough time, unsure about what was involved, etc. But now, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The amount of time parents are asked to put in is minimal — — and that one day a month in the class with the kids is priceless.
I really can’t say enough positive things about Small Friends!

I searched and searched for a school that would be the best place for my kids and just when I was about to settle I found Small Friends and I couldn’t be happier. Small Friends is a warm and welcoming preschool that is also fun and engaging for the students. My b/​g twins love their classroom and especially their very patient, kind, and hard working teachers Elaine and Jennifer. Each week is themed with much of the classroom (games, books, messy tub, rice bin, play dough, crafts, toys) centered around that theme. My kids and I are always excited to see what will happen next. The school does a great job of allowing the children to be themselves while also teaching respect and supportively encouraging them to be independent and try new things. The parent involvement is minimal yet so important. I love that I know all the children in the classroom and know first hand the fun things they do in class – makes for a stronger connection for my children to their school day. This is an AMAZING school!!!

I rate ‘small friends” 10 stars! We are just completing our fifth year there, between our two boys, and they have both absolutely loved their experiences and their teachers. I’m sad we are leaving the ‘fold’ but i’m getting the word out every which way i can that this place is dreamy. I was looking for a classic, ‘old school,’ mister rogers’ style preschool and our experience has exceeded our expectations.

This is a fantastic preschool! My son is so happy to go and explore what’s new in the classroom every day! The children learn through play an songs and games and the teachers really make learning fun! The teachers are so loving and caring it is really the perfect experience for your child just starting school! We love small friends:)

Our experience with Small Friends has only just begun but we look forward to all of our children attending. From the moment we stepped in the classroom, my son’s little mind started firing on all cylinders. Everyday is something new to explore and the open, pressure free atmosphere allows the children to make every discovery their own. The teachers are amazing and put everything they have into the children. From their calm demeanor to their loving tone, Teacher Jennifer and Teacher Lisa know exactly what every individual child needs to thrive. I just can’t say enough! Thank you Small Friends for making our preschool experience so wonderful.

Small Friends fosters a loving, supportive environment. They were recommended to us from family because they were so impressed when their children went there over 10 years ago. We were new to the area and in great need for a pre-​school. My daughter went there and now my son goes there. There is a wonderful sense of community among the teachers and the attending families. They provide a great structural learning environment that allows the children to learn and socialize. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for a wonderful environment for their children to learn and grow.

Our family feels very lucky to have found the Small Friends community. The environment is such that each child has the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities at the pace/​level that they are comfortable with. I have some involvement in the classroom, on a monthly basis (~3 hours of time), during which I participate in an activity and have the chance to meet other children that my daughter interacts with. In addition to these structured activities, there is free play time, songs, stories, snack time, crafting, and outdoor play (to name a few). The teachers are very supportive of each child, and where that child is at on their learning/​life journey.

Both of my sons have attended Small Friends. I love that the kids can explore at their own pace, playing where they want, for as little or as long as they want. The atmosphere is calm (even with all those little guys). Parents are involved by being parent helpers about once a month, it is great to be in there, but still have plenty of days when you can have time to yourself. The teachers are caring and attentive. It is the perfect atmosphere for 3 – 4 year olds where they can explore without being pressured by too many transitions or academic expectations.
