We just completed our move with Smooth Move People, and we couldn’t be happier. Mike and Dave were a great team that arrived early, went directly to work and had the whole house loaded in no time at all. They were cheerful, industrious, and really fun to work with. This is our second move using this company and we will definitely use the again.

I just got off the phone with the owner, and I quickly left the conversation because of the unexpectedly *terrible* customer service. He was constantly interrupting me, not willing to listen to what I had to say, contradicting me, rude, abrasive, and aggressive. When I used Smooth Move People about 2 years ago, I was treated with much more respect. I will NOT work with someone who refuses to listen to what the customer needs. He may have 27 years of experience, but no consideration for the customer came through in this phone call.

I wish I could comment on the quality of their actual moving services, but we never got that far. We had to reschedule our move the day before it was scheduled due to a bad lender (not ours) that was holding up the process. We called Smooth Move as soon as we had the information, and yet he still had to say how he really wish he’d known sooner because he had turned away so many other people and then went on and on about the hot weather predicted on the day we wanted to re-​schedule, and how he really had hoped for a lighter day that day. Really? I was next to tears about the move being delayed anyway (hardly convenient with 3 young kids) and then he turns around and tries to assign blame inappropriately (first on me, then on my realtor). When I called back because it we thought we might be able to make a deal with the owners of the house we were to move into, he was cold as ice. I can’t believe people like this are still in business.

Smooth Move People moved me on June 30, 2015. They arrived 30 minutes early. They were very professional — had my entire 2^nd floor apartment loaded in the truck in 40 minutes
and unloaded in 45 min. The day was sweltering hot. They worked hard — were very efficient
and worked as a team. These guys deserve a raise for great attitudes and professional
service. I would use them again and highly recommend them.

These guys are AWESOME! I refer people to them all the time. Every move has been great and I’ve used them about 4 – 5 times. Of course if you are packed things more like greased lightening. I had all my boxes packed and stacked and furniture disassembled and ready to go. I got an 8:00 a.m. appointment. I was in an upstairs apt (3 flights of stairs). They loaded the truck in 15 minutes. It took 20 minutes to get to the new place and it took them 15 minutes to move everything into the new place! 50 MINUTES!
AND THEY ARE GENTLE WITH YOUR THINGS!

Unbelievably rude! I called to set up a time for Smooth Move to come pack up my apartment, but the jerk I spoke with yelled and lectured me for 5 minutes about how «you can’t just set up a time to move.» Excuse me, but I’m the customer, you don’t yell at me or make me feel like an idiot for wanting a specific moving time. There are plenty of moving companies in Portland who are willing to move me, jerk.

I needed to have my elderly mother moved from one assisted living facility to another. Basically the equivalent of a studio apartment. I spent time packing her belongings, but I didn’t have the vehicle, equipment or strength to actually move the furniture and boxes.
The crew called to tell me they finished the morning job earlier than expected and asked if I was ready for them to come in about 30 minutes — I said YES and hustled my way through the packing.
They loaded everything down to to first floor and into their truck — drove to the new location and loaded everything into the new place in under 90 minutes — total. Amazing.
They were friendly, efficient, and effective. I would use them again in a heartbeat and recommend them to anyone.

At the end of August we needed help getting our stuff out of storage and moved into a 3^rd floor apartment. The idea of having to load the heavy items and mounds and mounds of bags and boxes was just overwhelming. Smooth Move People was suggested to us by the agent who uses them regularly and I have to tell you I was so glad we did. They called when they were 30 minutes away which put them at the storage unit at the start of the 2 hour window we had been given. They were professional — quick and careful — only asked 1 time if it was ok to take a break and that was after moving over half our load up 3 flights of stairs. They made sure everything was in the room it belonged and not 1 item was broken or even scratched. They were just awesome.

Shortly after this review was posted, I was contacted by Greg AGAIN where he left another one of his rambling, threatening voice mails. After listening to it I felt obligated to contact the police and report his behavior. The police officer I spoke with offered to contact Greg on my behalf and tell him not to contact me anymore. IF he tries to contact me again, harassment charges will be filed against him. Seriously, that’s how bad this guy is, that his former customers have to get the police involved to make him go away! It appears I am not the only person who has had to contact the police upon using Smooth Move People.
Please save yourself the trouble and find a different moving company to serve you!

They did not bring any tools and spend a long time trying to unhook washing machine. They asked me to tape my boxes and handed me the tape with nothing to cut the tape with. Left the schrink wrap on alot of the furiture.

These guys saved my moving day! My roommate had arranged to have movers show up at 10am to move our two bedroom apartment to a new one. Well, at noon Smooth Move rolled up. They weren’t late. No, they weren’t even the guys we had hired! We had made arrangements with Northwest University Movers.
Hector and Adolfo had no idea that the guys we really had hired had instead called Greg for an «emergency move» for him and «his wife» (my roommate). Greg helped us figure out what the heck was going on while the guys made pretty quick work of loading our stuff up into their truck from our second floor apartment. Nothing will beat watching them put our mattresses over the railing and catching them down below, like rock stars.
When all was said and done it had been 3 ¼ hours, they had been nice, funny and professional and just generally fantastic to work with. What could have turned into a minor disaster for us turned out great, delay aside. Thanks guys! I would never hire anyone but these guys ever again.

I noticed some people had a bad experience, but our family did not. We moved from our apartment to a house in SW Portland, and the two guys were awesome! They helped pack some remaining stuff we still needed to put in boxes and loaded it quickly. I would use them again if needed!

These guys are amazing! Justin and Eric worked their butts off! Couldn’t have asked for friendlier or more conscientious service. After a quick tour of my place they got right to work, packed everything in the truck like they were expert Tetris players, and made sure the fragile items were padded and secure.
I was a little leery after reading some of the reviews here, so asked friends who they have used. Two friends, one of them a real estate agent, recommended Smooth Move People. So glad I listened to them!

We moved at the end of October and used these guys. They were okay — 2 guys came out and got our stuff over to the new place… almost. First, it took a really long time for these 2 guys to move a 2 bedroom apartment’s worth of stuff. 4 hours. It took 4 hours. It wasn’t even a hard move. They were really nice, to their credit. But one of the guys did try to shove a chair into a doorway that clearly wouldn’t fit, and if my husband hadn’t seen him he could have easily damaged the new place’s door. The worst part about it was that a box of ours is missing. I doubt it was stolen (it was full of glass baking ware and corning ware) because all of it was really old and very well used. I honestly think it broke and the guys dumped it. I realized this almost right away because the kitchen is one of the first rooms I unpack. I called the company and got a long message back about this process that they have regarding how they check the truck after the move and that the guy on the phone guarantees that they don’t have it. Great — it’s still missing, and the only people in the old or new place aside from us were your employees. Basically I gave them 2 stars for being nice. That’s about it.

Horrible experience. They were suppose to arrive at 1pm and didn’t show up until 4pm, they had called at 12pm to say there were running late but 3 hours!!! They took way longer than they should have. Prior move was done in half the time with double the stuff.
Was so disappointed when I went to look for my clothes and realize they forgot to get everything outta the master closet :(
They ran outta packaging cellophane and asked me to run to home depot! They had said the previous job took twice as long as they thought and used up ALL there supplies. I only had a bed that needed wrapped.
Single gal with a bed, small table and super small couch. Shouldn’t have taken so long.
They ended up working late and asked me to go get them beer when I had said I’ll be right back. I obliged and just wanted them gone!!! I huffed and puffed and lugged so much stuff up the stairs when the whole point was for me to do no moving with my horrible back injury.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!
They also knocked a whole stacked hand truck over and then said to me that I startled him!!!
Just don’t use them if your want a smooth move. Oh also they showed up in a little truck that didn’t fit everything! BOOOO

when people move, unless they are idiots, they have set schedules for the major components of said move (packed up by this time, the truck at this time, out by this time, taking care of utilities at this time, etc.). i booked this company’s services for 2pm on my move out day in between getting the truck at 1pm and having my walk through at 3pm. when i initially scheduled their services, i was told that they give estimates about their arrival, but that they should arrive right around 2 depending on their previous job. i was assured by the lady on the phone that the movers would be at my place «around 2; maybe 2:15 or 2:30 at the latest.»
at 2:25, i called the company to ask where the movers were and ended up leaving a message. five minutes later, i received a call from their owner. he told me that my movers were still on their previous job and would be for a while, that they would call me when they were on their way, and that i should bank on a half hour between their call and their arrival. i asked him why they give estimates about their arrival time if this is how close to said arrival time they might arrive.
he told me that they «are like a cable company; we give estimates about when we might show up.»
no apology. no mutual understanding. no compassion. no accountability.
cable companies give windows when they might show up, not specific times.
basically, my issue lies in the lack of explanation at the front end and the poor execution of their services. had i known that whatever time they quote is just an arbitrary guess and not an actual goal for them, had i known that their attitude would be nonchalant about schedules and time tables, had i known that this company actually sucks from the top down, i would have gone elsewhere immediately without wasting my time with this unprofessional company.
kids, don’t use this company. you’re better off any other way.

Great guys… moved everything with ease. Best 500 bucks I’ve ever spent!

I moved from 1 house to another, from SE Portland to Vancouver, these guys were awesome. Walter and Les, great guys, they worked very hard, we have some big heavy stuff, including the lovesack, they were very careful of the property and walls, they laid down blankets to not dirty up the entryways, didn’t milk the clock, we paid by the hour, they showed up in a huge 24 foot truck. I was very pleased with the work performed, they deserve a raise. GREAT JOB GUYS.

I have moved many times with Willamette Valley Movers. They were unavailable the day I wished to move (Easter Sunday) so I tried the list of others. These guys were able to make time and I proceeded assuming I’d have the same great experience I’ve had using movers.
Not so much. They showed up with alcohol on their breath, though they were on time! One of them seemed very experienced and in tune with customer relations; the other, not as much. Twitchy. I’ve never felt uncomfortable around my movers, but, I was glad I had a guy around that day.
They did break an item in the move as well, (it fell off the truck) and a bureau that had previously been okay now came apart at the back. They were not very good about moving the boxes to the right rooms (at least, one of the two guys wasn’t). They also asked about me giving a tip before they left my old location. They left before me, and arrived at least 10 minutes after me, to the new location. Obviously that was not the most direct route.
The price was a little less than the competition at $ 85/​hr and min. 3 hours. Free insurance — we will see how it works. $ 0.60/ per lb and we’re talking about a nice large standing fan. I sense that is not going to cover the time/​gas it takes me to find the replacement!
I hope my experience was merely a one-​off and that Smooth Moves is as reputable as the owner, who was very professional, made it sound after 24 years in business!
