Stephens & Margolin LLP was founded by C. Sean Stephens and Daniel Margolin to provide a high level of legal representation in the area of family law. Our lawyers exclusively practice divorce and family law. We’re located in the downtown Portland at 1000 SW Broadway, across from the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and 2 blocks from the Multnomah County Courthouse. Our divorce and family law lawyers provides representation in all areas of family law, including divorce, legal separations, collaborative divorce, family law appeals, child custody, parenting time enforcement, grandparents rights, contempt, establishment and modification of child support and spousal support. We represent clients in all state courts in Oregon, but our primary focus is Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties.

Established in 2008.

C. Sean Stephens and Daniel Margolin had both worked as family law lawyers separately and in other firms, and chose to band together in April of 2008 to create a firm that provided a high level of representation to clients.

Daniel M.

Business Owner

Daniel Margolin is a founding partner of Stephens & Margolin LLP and a Portland, Oregon native. His practice focuses on all aspects of family law litigation. In addition, Mr. Margolin practices in the areas of Family Law Appeals and Collaborative Divorce.

He received his law degree from the nationally acclaimed New York University School of Law. After graduating Mr. Margolin worked at the Oregon Court of Appeals for the Honorable Rex Armstrong. He then worked as an associate attorney at a local law firm. In 2005, Mr. Margolin formed the Law Office of Daniel Margolin, which, like Stephens & Margolin LLP, focused on family law representation.

He is a member of the Oregon State Bar and American Bar Association Family Law Sections. He also belongs to the family law section of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers. Mr. Margolin is trained in Collaborative Divorce representation.

I felt like the old bait and switch hit me in the wallet. Before retaining Jon Trause from this firm, Jon agreed represent the path to resolution which I had I sought. Things like discovery and my request to go back to the custody evaluator we previously used, who in his 2011 report stated that nothing should be done to reduce dad’s time. But then in 2015 this is exactly what my daughter’s mom sought. Subsequently, after retaining Jon, everything I was legally entitled to was met with reasons from Jon why what we previously agreed to would not work, why I should not ask for things I was legally entitled to, and why I should settle and not risk making the Judge mad, and planting fear in me that that if I lost in court it would spell financial disaster for me. Unfortunately, Jon was not able to get my narrative to the Judge, nor did he help me obtain the things I needed for my case through discovery. Pay for what you want, get what you don’t should be their motto.

I really appreciated how accommodating and supportive Sean was from the beginning before receiving any financial compensation. When I met with Sean I immediately felt that I could trust him and that he was not just any family attorney. His knowledge and expertise were evident from the start and I hired him immediately.
