Description

Specialties

Swift and Union is a true neighborhood restaurant, featuring seasonally and simply inspired pub fare, craft beers, wines and cocktails.

The name, Swift and Union, is a nod to the Kenton neighborhood’s history as a company town, when Union Meat Company and Swift & Company ruled.

Swift and Union is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, as well as weekend brunch.

Minors are welcome until 8pm, but must be seated by 7pm to accommodate our liquor license.

History

Established in 2015.

After Swift Meat Packing acquired the Union Meat Company in 1907, Kenton was born a company town with a big dream: to become the meat packing center of the Pacific Coast. By 1958, the neighborhood had grown into a modern-day meat utopia, making Portland the leader of the West Coast cattle trade.

Today, the original spirit of Kenton returns with Swift and Union, a casual pub-style restaurant by Ken «Zig» Naffziger and Kristen Siefkin, married Kentonites who created Tabor Tavern in 2012.

Like the little company town that could, Swift and Union has meaty ambitions: to be the best neighborhood tavern around. We think chef Aaron Hepp-Buchanan’s seasonally inspired pub fare, served with a selection of draft beers, craft cocktails, and regional wines, will convince you. And did we mention our famous sweet and salty bacon jam?

Meet the Business Owner

Zig and Kristen N.

Business Owner

In 2012, after 25 years in the industry — including stints with Portland pub icons McMenamins, Lompoc Brewing and the Horse Brass Pub — Ken «Zig» Naffziger decided to set out on his own.

Inspired by Zig and wife Kristen’s travels and love of pub culture, their goal was to create the kind of place fellow tavern fans could congregate to enjoy high-quality food and drink in a warm, welcoming and unpretentious environment.

Tabor Tavern, their first restaurant location located in NE Portland opened in 2011, followed by Swift and Union in summer 2015.
