We had our company Christmas party there a couple years ago. The food was good. The service was excellent. And we saw during their remodel that we did just how much the owners care for the customers. They had an employee meeting right before they reopened… I’m really impressed with John’s commitment to making the customers happy.
That being said, as person with a lot of food allergies, I was a bit surprised to see, for example, a hunk of ribs (delicious) resting on a slice of white bread (poison to my wife and me). So. Whatever. Just makes it hard to eat there is all. If it wasn’t a company party we probably would have just asked for something tailored to our needs… because I know the staff would have obliged!

Visiting Portland and I knew I couldn’t leave without trying this place. Definitely prepare for long waits during brunch time, but they do have a walk in bar that seats like 6 people first come first serve which I used! A friend and I shared the Smoked Salmon Hash and Fried Pork Cutlets. They like to serve the food slowly and one entrée at a time to have you experience the food in a way where you can savor/​appreciate the food while being able to share with your buddies. Pork cutlets were crispy and tender with the soft spinach and over easy egg. I would totally order it again. Salmon hash was good but it didn’t feel like anything I haven’t had. Bartender was super hip and likes to conversate which made the experience that much better. A must visit when stopping by Portland.

After committing to taking the bus to Tasty n Sons on a 100*F day and then having the bus not come for 20 minutes and then kicking ourselves in the butt for committing to taking the bus when we could’ve Über-​ed and possibly missing the 2:30 cut-​off time for brunch we were ecstatic when they seated us at 2:28 pm and said, yes, they were still open for brunch. SCORE!
Our server, Lindsay, was amazing — super friendly and personable! We ordered the Burmese Pork Stew due to it’s stellar Unilocal recommendations and the chicken fried chicken. Both were SUPERB! The pork stew was flavorful and the egg on top perfectly cooked — bonus points, ask for kimchi ($ 2 extra), it really brings an extra umph to the dish! The surprise was the chicken fried chicken though — perfectly fried, perfect crunch and the gravy was so flavorful!
This is one brunch spot that definitely lives up to the hype, and everyone was just so nice! Really impressed with our experience =)

When visiting Portland, we were looking for a breakfast/​brunch place before we headed out to be tourists for the day. Found this place very close to where we were staying.
Came here little before noon on a Wednesday morning. We were a party of 5 and seated almost immediately.
We ordered our dishes and shared it among the group, family style. The portions are on the smaller side: Potato donut– good.
Polenta ragu– nice and creamy, it was delicious!
North African sausage– sausage was nicely seasoned and a little spicy.
Salmon hash– the potatoes in this dish was good, however there was barely any salmon and was a little bland.
Burmese red pork stew– This was my favorite! The pork was ‘melt in your mouth’ delicious! Soft, tender, nicely seasoned, just delicious! The rice that came with it also had some slather of the pork seasoning – very good!
Friendly staff, good service and good food.

Great food… its family style gotta love that.
We had the Radicchio salad, Reuben and Boudin Blanc Sausage Omelette and it was all amazing .
On of the best Reuben’s ever we really enjoyed it.

Catching up on reviews from our Portland vacation. This is what a perfect brunch tastes like! I’ve read the reviews about long waits but we got in with no wait at 9:40am on a Friday! It did start to fill up after we got there.
Chocolate Potato Doughnuts — Fluffy and unique. Not super chocolatey but tasty all the same. The sauce definitely adds to it.
Erin’s Sweet Biscuits — Now THESE are SOME biscuits. Flaky, tender and delicious with a generous heaping of berries. SO good. It might have actually been my favorite thing in the meal… a biscuit? Really? Yes, really. Too bad it was kind of small for sharing. My advice is to get your own.
Shakshuka (Baked egg and tomato stew, with merguez sausage added) — For eggs with a bunch of sauce this was actually really homey and satisfying. I’m so glad they gave us some good bread to soak up all the sauce because we didn’t leave any of it behind. Definitely recommend adding the sausage to go with it.
Chicken Fried Chicken (Venison gravy, over easy egg, biscuit) — Yay, more biscuit! Every component in this dish was good over all, especially the gravy!

First stop during our trip to Portland! This place is truly a must stop. Heads up though, it can get crowded quickly. We ended up sitting right at the bar though in the front, which ended up being totally awesome! Our server/​bartender was very chill and was very knowledgable about the menu. The restaurant was super clean and had a fun aesthetic!
Onto the food! We ordered the a board that came with a fried chicken and egg sandwich, a plate of French toast, and a plate of two chocolate potato donuts (which everyone raves about). I guess they serve the food tapas style, with things coming as they are ready and with the heavy encouraging of sharing. So first came out French toast! Four slices with a large dollop of whipped cream, and surrounded by strawberry jam. We ate them so quickly, very very good! I’m also not used to eating french toast with jam on it, so it was unique, but very delicious. Next came out donuts — dessert for breakfast! They basically are two chocolate donut holes covered in bits of sugar. They were realllllllly good, though a bit (dare I say) doughy?
Last came out chicken sandwich. Y’all, you have to get their fried chicken, it was literally sent from the gods. I wish we had ordered another one cause it was gone in a second with how much we enjoyed it.
The service was friendly and attentive. My boyfriend got coffee, I just had water, but we watched our server make a bunch of cocktails that looked delicious! We were very happy to stop in, definitely worth the wait.

Came here on a Monday to catch up with a buddy of mine who lived in the area. We managed to catch a couple seats at the bar, without any wait at around 1pm. After an unsuccessful attempt to get seats at Tasty n’ Alder the night before, I figured lunch at Tasty n’ Sons would be a good way to make up for it. The menus are quite similar, as are the experiences, as our server told us. Even at 1pm on a Monday, it was still pretty crowded, and there were plenty of larger parties waiting for tables.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try their signature chocolate potato doughnut, but there were plenty of other things available on the menu, so we weren’t too disappointed. We were feeling pretty hungry, so we ordered the breakfast board to share (6-​minute egg, bacon, beets, chicken liver, crostini, greek yogurt with olive oil), the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, and the chicken fried chicken with a biscuit, egg, and gravy. Sensing a bit of a theme here, eh? My favorite was likely the chicken fried chicken, since it had all the components I liked, and was a complete dish.
Service was very friendly, although it took us about half an hour to get our food, and the dishes were spaced out kinda weird, with the chicken sandwich coming out first, and the breakfast board second. Nonetheless, we enjoyed chatting it up with the staff and the people around us, so it was okay. The prices are a bit pricier for the portions, so beware of that when ordering. They recommend that you order a few dishes, since everything is meant to be shared, which is fine, but you shouldn’t expect your sandwiches to come with fries, only a few potato chips.
Don’t know if it lived up to the hype, but everything we had was quite delicious and I had a great time, so I can’t really complain. Definitely a great place for some unique comfort food. Make sure to beat the lines for weekend brunch by coming early.

I have now lived in this city for 2 years, so with my perspective change, here is a proper review.
Tasty n Sons is one of the best brunch restaurants you can come to. It is my go to spot to take friends to show off what Portland can offer. It’s one of those places where the food is so good you know it has to be unhealthy, so you only go on special occasions as a special treat for yourself.
So a few things:
1. The french toast is amazing. Make sure to mix the white cream on top. The toast is so packed with so many flavors. I use to never order this toast, because who pays $ 12+ for 4 small tiny splices smothered in sauce. But smarter people have shown me the way. This toast is life changing. Try it. Don’t think about it, just try it. You will thank me.
2. Burmese Pork Stew — Very good. Chunks of pork with a sweet yet spicy flavor cut with dry rice all mixed in with one wet egg and one done Asian style. Very good. Said it twice.
3. Chicken Fried Chicken. Yes, this is also very good. The chicken in itself is a juicy fried chicken that you probably could get somewhere else, but the beauty of this dish is the venison gravy lathered over biscuits. The biscuits are fluffy and buttery. When combined with this venison gravy it just pops.
4. Dutch Baby — It’s good, but it’s like saying Allen Crabbe is good! Yes he wasn’t bad this year, but he isn’t Damian Lillard or even CJ. He’s Allen Crabbe. Come off the bench and bring good flavors, but it isn’t why you are having a good morning.
Finally:
Line is always about 30 – 80 minutes long (the place is tiny). I hate waking up early for brunch so do the following… go around 10:50AM, put your number down and go across the street to Hopworks Brewery. Drink a few beers or check out one of the hundred random café’s. Before you know it they will call you.

This place was packed! We came here for Sunday morning brunch at around 11:15. We were told the wait would be 45 minutes to an hour. This was fine since we weren’t starving. They took my phone number so that we could walk around, they’d call me when a table opens up. 45 or so many minutes later I received a phone call. We were seated at a large communal table. So we sat across the table from strangers but nobody chatted.
We ordered bloody Mary’s (they offer seven different varieties. My bf had the Maiken Tasty Midwestern Bloody Mary with beer on the side, it tasted a bit like pickles. I ordered the class Tasty Mary, it was delish. Next we ordered the breakfast board. This featured bread and crustini, strawberries, pickled beet (which I skipped), house made beef jerky (was not crazy about this, strange taste), yogurt sauce with seasoned olive oil, smoked bacon and chicken liver pâté (sooooo good!). After that we ordered a roasted Apple with maple syrup and cheddar cheese, delectable. To finish we ordered a smoked salmon hash with a creamy horseradish sauce. I took several bites because I wanted to like it. However, it didn’t taste good. Maybe it’s the salmon? Or maybe the kale made it taste bitter? I’m not sure. When we told the waiter he immediately comped it for us ($ 15) and said he would inform the kitchen that we disliked it. Great brunch, worth the wait!

We went for lunch and had really high hopes/​expectations for this place with all the rad reviews and although we definitely didn’t leave unhappy, we weren’t WOW’d and left wanting a little something more.
Chocolate Donuts: I’ve heard soooo many people talk about these and seen them on TV so I had to try them! Although they were tasty they weren’t anything mind blowing or anything that I would pay $ 2.50 a pop for to have again.
North African Sausage: There was something really off putting aesthetically and taste wise about this dish. We love all kinds of different spices but this just didn’t do anything for us.
Simple Greens Salad: This was perfect! Great portion size, lightly dressed, crisp, and refreshing!
Burmese Red Pork Stew w/​a side order or their House Kimchee: This was SUPER YUMMY!!! The dish reminded me of a Taiwanese comfort food dish and the Kimchee was surprisingly tasty!!! Great recommendation by the hostess and I’d recommend everyone to try this pairing!!!
Service was okay although our server was friendly but a bit awkward. All in all, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, decent food, but not something that I’d wait half an hour or an hour to eat.

Great great GREAT place. Highly recommend this place. Come early because the lines can build up quick. I suggest sitting at the bar on the kitchen side to witness the cooks go to work.
Food is cooked properly and takes time but comes out perfect! I ordered the popular Shakshuka which is like a stew almost. It has tomatoes, egg on top, sausages, etc. It’s hardy and comes with toasted bread that’s smothered in olive oil.
Tasty n Sons is legit. Service is great too! Everything here is what Portland represents in terms of culinary game, freshness, and passion for great food!

Came here on a Saturday night around 8pm, and much to our surprise were seated right away with no wait! The hostess said it was an odd Saturday and my friends mentioned they waited 2 hours to get seated once.
We ordered family style and got the Porkchop with bacon jam, fried chicken, fried catfish, collared greens, asparagus, Tyner’s Mac & Cheese, and mushroom bread pudding. I also got the Cherry Pop for a drink, which was a cherry carbonated beverage with vodka and pop rocks (omg, so fun).
Everything was great! My favorite was the Porkchop with bacon jam. I found everything else to be good, while the mushroom bread pudding was a little on the salty side.
Service here was great; no waiting and our waitress was very attentive. Nice place to hang out and catch dinner and some drinks with friends!

On my travels through the pacific Northeast, I wisely followed my trusty Unilocal app to Tasty n Sons. I remembered my friend and I both commented that if we lived in this area, we would come to this place often for brunch.
Onwards to the concise specifics! The décor is very nice and modern. The servers were high quality friendliness. It was quite loud but in an acceptable way. The apricot french toast was amazing. The bermese stewed pork was also VERY well done. Bacon dates were good to ok. The potato chocolate donut balls were meh (I dont get the hype).
The wait can be long so keep that in mind when you plan to hit up this joint!

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had recently. I came here for Sunday late night dinner, just in time for Happy Hour! The interior is beautifully decorated with a (kind of random) Wright Brothers theme and dim lighting. We were seated right near the garage door (P.S. huge fan of garage door restaurants — so hip).
Everything on the menu looked like something I would try, but I ended up getting the mac ‘n cheese and the BBQ ribs with Breakside’s Toro Red on the side. This was more than enough to fill me up, but I was really impressed by the quality of the dishes. Mac ‘n cheese was creamy and rich, topped off with breadcrumbs. Ribs fell right off the bone. And the Toro Red is something I MUST FIND AGAIN. That, my friends, was some good beer. The server was super attentive but not overbearing. Overall, it was just an excellent meal.
I would love love love to come back when I’m in town and try the brunch options.

Everything was amazing.
We came in expecting a huge wait and were pleasantly surprised to have a seat waiting for us. We started with a crisp glass of wine and the bacon wrapped dates. WHOA. And then it just keeps getting better. The collard greens and broccolini were fresh and seasoned perfectly. But the highlight of the meal was the pork chop– it was the best I have ever had. It was nice sitting at the chef’s viewing area as well– we could see how our food was prepared. Overall, there is a great vibe to this place and I would be back in a heartbeat.

The service, the aesthetic, and the food were all on point! I would definitely order several dishes and share so everyone can have a taste of everything.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while but there always seems to be a long wait. I decided to take my chances and take my dad here for brunch when he was in town. We were not disappointed.
We waited for less than 15 min and you can get a coffee while you wait. We sat along the front bar looking onto Williams (great seats for people watching). They kept the coffee coming and we ordered our drinks, I got the Sangre Fresca and my dad got the El Fuego Mary. Yum!
For food we went with the smoked salmon hash and the breakfast board and split them. Amazing. One of the best smoked salmons I’ve had mixed with hash favorites. The breakfast board had a fun assortment of breads, spreads, beets, bacon and jerky, and an egg. This was plenty for us but I saw other people get even more food and finish it all. Too good not too!
Definitely wanna come back to try more, hopefully I can plan it well again!

First time here and we had a great experience. We got sat right away (wednesday at 12pm) and right in front of the kitchen so we saw all the amazing plates, we wanted them all!
The steak egg cheddar with a cornmeal pancake on a skillet was amazing, portion was perfect and the texture of the eggs and cornmeal was on point and the hanger steak was a great size portion as well.
My gf ordered the Frittata and wasn’t a fan of the plate (probably because she had some of my steak and cheddar) but Jasmine D. was understanding and remembered my gf was contemplating the sausage egg muffin first. It came out right away and it was a great! We were «full» and finished it because it was so good.

First time Unilocal review I’ve written because everything about Tasty n Son was amazing. We’ll be coming back to try out those burgers we saw!

This place was amazing and well worth the 40 min wait.
The Chicken Fried Chicken with biscuits, venison gravy, and a fried egg was one of the best meals of my life. My gf loved the Shashuka with the Merguez sausage. We also shared a delicious Monte Cristo.
Plates are served in family style. Service is swift once you’re seated.

This is my favorite place in PDX! So glad I found it bc we ended up eating here 2 days in a row bc we loved it so much. Can’t wait to come back here in April. :)

This place doesn’t need me to write another good review about it but I’m going to anyways because Tasty n Sons’ employees were some of the nicest, fastest, and happiest people I’ve ever encountered in Portland. I would definitely come back because I had such amazing service the first time. Our wait was 15 – 20 minutes at 11am on a Sunday afternoon, honestly that was music to my ears! (expected the host to say 45 – 60 minutes) We got coffee for the wait and a waitress went around groups waiting as well grabbing drink orders from the bar if you wanted something alcoholic.
You should know that this place serves food family style, bringing one dish at a time so you could share and have bites of each plate!
Everything we got was delicious but there were some execution errors. I thought the bacon wrapped dates need more bacon because the date ratio was more, the Dutch babies should be a little more puffed and thick, and the shakshuku eggs needed less time in the oven so that they were still runny. Other than that the food was seasoned perfectly and I enjoyed all the dishes. The English breakfast came with the best beans I’ve ever had!

Came here for brunch and it was amazing! We got the chocolate potato doughnut, erin’s sweet biscuits, morrocan chicken hash and potatoes bravas. Everything was outstanding, especially the biscuits! Definitely one of my favorite meals in Portland.
P. S. The wait was 40 minutes but totally worth it.

For my very first meal in Portland, we were given a list of hot spots from local friends. Going through the list, this place was the only joint that offered a different brunch approach so I knew I needed to check them out. I’m glad I did!
I knew we were going to wait, so when I got there, I was happy to find out that there were coffee shops and boutique stores attached to the same building for us to peruse through while we wait. The great thing is they took my number and called me when a table was ready. Brunch spots need to do more of that! The nice hostess quoted me 1.5 hours but our table was eventually ready after 45 minutes of wait. Score! When I got in, I saw a very industrial, modern place. I loved the different maps on the walls and bottles of wine on the shelves. Lots of seating around the place, we happened to the an end table and loved it! Our server was on point. I can’t remember her name but she had a massive bun and glasses. She was so sweet and so accommodating. Great personality too, which made our experience that much better. Here’s what we had:
–Erin’s Sweet Biscuits for $ 6. Served with a huckleberry compote. OH-​EM-​GEE! This was the best thing since sliced bread! You get 3 small biscuits smothered in the compote. The biscuits were warm, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and buttery. It was so good, I wanna go back just for that! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
–North African Sausage for $ 11, served over a bed of couscous, cauliflower with an over easy egg. The sausage was flavorful and salty, loved the egg but didn’t really get the couscous. I think it could’ve done without. Still flavorful overall.
–Shaksuka for $ 12 and added the merguez sausage for an extra $ 2. It was a baked eggs and tomato stew. This was different than I’m used to for brunch but I LOVED IT! Loved that all the components seemed to mesh very well!
–Pork Cutlets for $ 13, on a bed of braised spinach and topped with over easy egg. LOVED IT TOO! The cutlets were so crispy and flavorful, ON-​POINT! Loved the lemon sauce on the bottom and loved that you can just add egg and call it breakfast!
–Steak and Cheddar Eggs for $ 16, sits on a bed of scrambled eggs, cheese and cornmeal cake. OH-​EM-​GEE, what an amazing dish! The steak was PERFECTLY seasoned and cooked to a medium rare temp, loved that cornmeal cake, sweet and savory at the same time. YOU NEED TO GET THIS DISH!!!
–Potatoes Bravas for $ 7. The value is definitely here. This was our biggest dish, even though it was a side. Lots of crispy seasoned potatoes with an over easy egg on top. Over easy egg seems to be the theme but I’m not complaining!
–Mellow Mule for $ 9. Mellow corn whiskey, lemon, cock n bull ginger beer, angostura and srappy’s lime bitters. I love that I could have a mule and not have vodka! This was so good, and it contained whiskey. I’m in heaven!
Oh man, the only problem with this place is that there isn’t a place like it in San Francisco! I want to go back to Portland just for this! If you’re ever in this city, you need to get your butt down there. You will NOT be disappointed!

The fish plate had a delicious assortment of pickled vegetables including carrots, beets, fennel, etc. The crackers and bread were great complements to the trout and salmon. The fried chicken was crisp, juicy, and perfectly spiced. The sweet potato spoon bread, topped with pecan, was unimpressive and bland. The mac n’ cheese was creamy but not Earth-​shattering. I was not as impressed as I expected but perhaps their brunch is how they really blow minds…

We ordered the Polenta N Sausage Ragu, Fried Egg N Cheddar Biscuit (with fried chicken), and the Burmese Red Pork Stew. All were really delicious, and despite the small portions, were really filling for the two of us (and I actually have a big appetite).
It was busy for a Saturday afternoon, so we put our name & number down. There are lots of other businesses around the restaurant, so we walked a block down to a coffee shop to wait till our table was ready. We got seated after 30mins, which I thought wasn’t bad.
Our server was very friendly & attentive.
Definitely going back to try some of their other dishes!

Woot Woot! This has been on my list of places to go for a LONG time now, so naturally, when we had a chance to go this last time in Portland, I was thrilled and jumped at the chance.
My sister had been here before so suggested that we get there as soon as they opened. And good thing! We got in right away and later when we left, there was a LONG line for a table.
They recommend you order family style but we essentially ordered one dish each and just tried each others dishes. We tried the Chocolate Potato Doughnuts Morrocan Chicken Hash. Shakshuka, English Breakfast, Burmese REd Pork Stew, and Chicken Fried Chicken.
In the end? Our favorites were the Shakshuka and the Burmese Red Pork Stew. I think we could’ve each eaten a bowl of that stew alone. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Portland!

Tasty, tasty, tasty! Definitely a top brunch choice in Portland. I love their innovative menu, delicious flavors, strong drinks, and prompt service.
Tasty n sons is mostly known for their superb brunch. I was excited to try them out for their dinner menu for the first time. I was happy that the dinner flavors was also on point.
During our move recent visit we had a reservation for 10 for dinner. Our group also had one baby which they easily accommodated.
Radicchio salad: a crisp and fresh option that I enjoy starting out with. A slight bitter taste that is balanced out with the Parmesan and fresh croutons.
Tynan’s «craft» Mac n cheese: ooey gooey melted cheesy goodness with each savory macaroni bite. The crispy baked topping adds a nice satisfying crunch.
Bacon wrapped dates: these little things are packed with tons of flavor, not to mention wrapped in bacon, and drizzled with sweet maple. Sooo gooood.
Tasty n sons steak: cooked to a nice medium rare, the steak was tender and juicy with good flavor.
Ginger shrub: A delicious beverage creation with a tangy shrub flavor and a hint of sweet and spicy ginger. Loved it.
Overall, always bomb food, super fun times with friends, and prompt service. Definitely a must go to in Portland for a great dining experience.

Portland is known for their brunches, and this places takes the prize!
+Food:
Chocolate Potato Donut: It’s like a donut hole, but way better. It comes out crispy, but when you break into it, it gets flaky. Tastes very good with the crème that it comes in.
Breakfast Board: Comes with egg, pickled beets, beef jerky, chicken pâté, berries and cheese. I’d have to say that my favorite is the beef jerky, which had a nice combination of garlic and pepper for that kick. Definitely sharable.
Shakshuka: Red pepper and tomato stew! We paid a little extra for the lamb, and did not regret it. The lamb was a little gamey, but it went perfect with the stew.
+Staff: They were very quick, attentive, and great at recommending plates.
Since we were on vacation, we ordered the Capone Café, which had George dickel rye, aperol, salted maple, coffee, and whipped cream. Basically, an alcoholic coffee. Perfect for vacationing and rainy weather!!!

While traveling to Portland, this was the one brunch place we were excited to go to! Per a friend’s recommendation, we came here. And I was impressed! Thank you to Jocelyn L. for making sure we stopped by here!
Everything was delicious! Portions can be small so you get to try a lot of different things. I would say you should get these things:
– Erin’s Sweet Huckleberry Biscuits (light & flaky, reminds me of scones)
– Bacon-​Wrapped Dates (sweet and savory)
– Shakshuka (tomato stew makes for a good dipping sauce)
We tried a few others but these were our favorites. But from browsing the menu, it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with anything here.
The wait was fast, about 30 minutes. We came on a Saturday morning. We ended up sitting at the front of the restaurant so we were able to look out the large glass window. It’s semi on the second floor so it’s a cool.
If ever I make my way back to Portland, this is on my list!

One of my favorite brunch spots in PDX! I can’t believe I’ve never been here before.
FAMILY STYLE DINING! :)
First of all, come EARLY! This place fills up quick and the line gets super long! I came here on a Saturday morning around 10:30 and there was a 45 minute wait. Parking is also a little hard to find.
Tasty Bloody Mary (⁵⁄₅) — So yummy! The beef jerky (for an extra $ 1) was SUPER hard and chewy! I recommend getting the tasty bloody mary alone.
Chocolate Potato Donuts (³⁄₅) — Mediocre. Tasted just like how it sounds, a chocolate potato donut. It felt hard on the outside, covered in sugar, and it was super flaky on the inside. I could’ve skipped this.
French Toast (⁴⁄₅) — Yuummmmy! It was a little on the sweet side, but still so good. Completely covered in a cooked apple sauce with a top of cream. The half order (two halves of bread) was a perfect portion to share if you want to order other savory items!
Moroccan Chicken Hash (⁵⁄₅) — SO GOOOOOD. So so so good. My absolute favorite dish we ordered. Perfectly seasoned chicken with grilled onions, potatoes, some type of aioli, and topped with an over easy egg. Currently drooling thinking about this dish.
Shakshuka (³⁄₅) with sausage — This was decent, but definitely not as memorable as the chicken hash.
I need to come back to try the Hangtown Fry, other brunch items, and dinner.

The biggest problem I have with Tasty and Sons is that I could come and just sample everything on the drink menu but I would end up with alcohol poisoning before I even made it a third of the way through.
Three drinks between us, each somehow more delightful than the last. When you ask the server her opinion on cocktail pairings expect to have your mind blown. Don’t be afraid of the Bartender’s Mood — the night I went it miraculously tasted like the green colored Haribo Forest Gummy Bears of my youth. HOW??? The world may never know.
We held ourselves back and only ordered five items: the broccolini (which I will dream about for months), the bacon-​wrapped dates (perfectly balanced in smoky, sweet, and savory), the steak tenderloin with carmelized onions (holy hell — DELISH), collard greens (with bacon, natch) and the okra. The okra was the surprise of the evening. I was a little reluctant to get it but it was deliciously spiced and *perfectly* cooked. I mean *perfectly*. If okra had been only served in this fashion I don’t think anyone would ever snub their nose at it. It was astounding.
Come in for a cocktail anytime and sip down a toddy on a cold, wet evening like tonight. Do your best not to follow the bartender home. Bring friends and pillage everything you can stuff in your face and leave happy.

Long brunch line? Check.

Tasty n Sons: famously infamous for its wait time. Thankfully, there are a number of engaging stores nearby to browse on the street. I also had a chance to read over the menu while I waited. The first thing that struck me was that Tasty n Sons has an interesting, international approach to their menu options and cuisine. Such restaurants sometimes run the risk of spreading themselves too thin, but happily, this one delivered on every single dish that we ordered.
Breakfast board: my favorite item! I loved this because there were so many things on one plate, it’s easy to share, and it was the quickest to arrive at our table, which makes sense given that it requires the least prep/​cook time. However, time can make a big difference when you’ve been waiting in line for 30 – 40 minutes and are already quite hungry. There was both soft pieces and small crunchy slices bread to pair with the sausage, the sour cream spread, the beets, the eggs, and several other toppings… and all of it was delicious.
Auntie Paula’s French Toast: flavorful, and with a good balance of sweetness. The berries were juicy, the bread had just the right amount of softness, and overall it was a delightful dish.
Pork cutlets: crispy and with just the right amount of tanginess. The meat was cooked well so well that the pork seemed like it came fresh from the fryer, which tasted wonderful with the bed of spinach. Only negative note would be that the crust was not well bonded with meat. Other than that, delicious.
Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication and the server did not deliver my friend’s Moroccan Chicken Hash til after the other dishes had been eaten for quite some time. Pitfalls of visiting on a busy Sunday during the summer brunch rush, I suppose.
The interior of the restaurant was a combination of industrial and artistic, with seating extending far back into the restaurant and a somewhat limited waiting area. Aside from missing a dish, service was flawless.

Although I was in Portland for 3 days, I came here twice. And I definitely didn’t mind it. The first time was for happy hour and I was disappointed that they were only able to make stuff on their happy hour menu, but their sandwich wasn’t bad. BUT I must say, the bacon wrapped figs were SO GOOD. They were pricey, but damn they’re worth it. Please. Get it and you won’t regret it. Also paired my food with a French 75 cocktail, and it was pretty standard and good.
Came back here a second time for brunch with more friends and we basically got to try everything on the menu. Well, if I’m gonna rate this place 5 stars, it’s safe to say that everything here was good and there was nothing lacking. The Morrocan Chicken Hash? YUM. The Burmese Red Pork Stew? Tasted extremely authentic and had those Asian flavors. And of course delicious. The biscuit sandwich was good too! But seriously, get the french toast. You can get a full order or a half order, but I devoured the half order pretty quickly. So you might just want to get the full order. It’s not too sweet and it was so fluffy! Everything was just so good and the service was great.
And you know what the best thing about Portland was? No tax. Makes everything totally worth it. The wait might be long, but it’s totally worth it!

I picked this restaurant because of the Southern cuisine. We were lucky to be second in line because as soon as we got in line, there were several other groups behind us. The line became SUPER long! We recommend coming right at 8:30 because if you try to come at 9 AM when they open, the line has already formed. This is when you know the food is a MUST HAVE.
The atmosphere is comfortable, very homey. The restaurant fits in almost any setting either on the street, by the ocean, off a cliff, or even in the middle of nowhere. The back seating feels intimate whereas the front seating feels more diner-​like. I love both sides and was hoping we would sit in the front. There’s an open kitchen and seating for those who want to sit at the counter. There’s so much light with the long windows, which helps us Unilocalers take better photos! Our server was on top of pouring water, checking in on us, and making sure the food was out promptly.
Let’s talk about food!
Chicken fried chicken — It’s on the top of my list for chicken fried steak. The gravy was good, the biscuit was oh so soft, and the chicken was well seasoned. Portland, you are doing something right. If we had just ordered three of these, I’m sure everyone at the table would be in heaven.
Burmese red pork stew — We were all thinking this would be an actual stew, but it came out with rice, pork, and an egg atop. For those who know what Ru Rou Fan (aka Taiwanese braised pork rice) is in Taiwan, this is exactly how it tasted, but MUCH BETTER. There’s something to the marination that I can’t quite put my finger on.
Chocolate potato doughnut — As an appetizer or dessert, it doesn’t matter. I thought it would just be a stomach filler, but it’s quite tasty. The chocolate is not too overpowering and the sauce is similar to condensed milk. It’s doughy, but doesn’t taste under cooked. I love that the outside is crispy and the inside is soft.
Maple and cumin glazed yams — If my candied yams tastes like this, I’d want it ALL the time. This gave me an idea that I’d be doing this for Thanksgiving.
This restaurant is almost like a course meal in terms of the waiting period. They serve one dish at a time for the entire table (so definitely a family style meal). Because our server explained the reason, it was not off-​putting. I can see they want to make sure none of the dishes get cold from sitting around and I thought that was very unique. Nobody likes to eat cold meat or a cold pastry.
Thumbs up, I am a fan! I can’t wait to try their other items.
