Their signature dish the spicy beef noodles is alright. Great for the masses that don’t eat very spicy. Real spicy beef noodle soup takes a lot of prep and quality beef that yields a flavorful broth. For the price and the taste this is just alright. Interior looks clean and brightly lit. A plus compared to most typical viet places.

You walk in and they ask«Chicken or beef?» My husband said«beef.» She asked if he wanted everything and spicy. I said«chicken» she wanted to know wet or dry. Then she brought out the food. And it was really friggin’ good. Good chicken broth is hard to find in this town. This place makes one. Can’t argue with a solid $ 22 dinner for two.

A hilaiously named place if you say the name in Cantonese. Great fresh flavors especially the meat and veggies. The selection is limited to 2 items, beef or chicken. We ordered both to sample I must say the beef was better. MSG is noticable but not too over the top.

Nicely decorated restaurant hidden within the 82nd plaza. My new favorite place to go for Bun Bo Hue now. Our server made sure we always have water without asking. Highly recommended! The broth is delicious!

Came here a few weekends ago and got the Bun Bo Hue and a chicken dish. I have shellfish allergies, so it’s a good thing I visited the OregonLive review to find out that it contains a cornucopia of beef, pork, and crap amongst the various other veggies and noodles. They don’t really have a menu and they’ll let you know they have bun bo hue and the chicken dish which comes with bone-in cold sliced chicken and fresh herbs on the side of a hot bowl of broth and noodles. There was way too much bone for the chickens so it made it quite a chore to eat. One thing I didn’t like is that smokers like to stand near the door so whenever someone opens to enter or exit, you can get quite a face full of noxious second-hand exposure.

This place is interesting. It is tucked between MBC(My Brother’s Crawfish) and a mobile phone store. The store has nice décor. There are large prints of images in Vietnam. The restaurant is nicely lit and tables/chairs are clean. Once you are seated you look at the menu. Oh wait, what menu? There is no menu. WHAT? Yep, no menu. There are only two options, BBH(no, not big booty h**s) and phở ga. BBH = Bun bo hue aka spicy beef noodle from Hue. Phở ga is chicken phở. So now what are you thinking? They only have two items on the menu… this must be the best darn BBH and phở ga everrrrr. Wrong. Well, actually, I can’t speak about phở ga since we did not try it. So, my review is solely based on BBH. Which was just alright… It was kind of a salt bomb. We came at the end of the night so that may have played a factor, but it was really salty. My father who hates citrus flavor, ended up having to put some lime into his noodles to cut the salt. Everyone else used two slices of lime in their bowl. Good stuff: it was nice and spicy. Their chili oil on the table was pretty tasty. My broth was too salty to add more spice, we just ate it on it’s own to try. Their side veggies were nice and fresh. They also provided appropriate veggies and herbs unlike some other places in PDX that sell BBH. Banana blossom in particular. Not all places give you this. Overall, this place wasn’t bad. It was a little off putting on how salty the broth was. However, the spice, veggies, and cleanliness of the restaurant made me happy. Oh, each bowl was $ 10.50 i think. That’s a big steep for noodle soups. I’d come again, but next time I’ll try earlier in the day. Maybe that will make a difference.

This Vietnamese inspired restaurant is very nice. The interior is clean, the staff here is really friendly and sociable. The menu selection is really easy here because there’s only 2 selection to choose from. Bun Bo Hue and Phở Ga. That’s it, so easy!!! Highly recommend this place!!!

Bun bo broth was a less flavorful than Bun Bo Hue at other places. Nothing specially… all they got is BUNBOHUE and nothing else. If you crave for something beside bun bo hue, don’t go in here.

Came here to try their Bun Bo Hue. My mom loves Bun Bo Hue so with this place just opening we thought it was a good place to try. This place only serves one dish. I love how they provide a huge pile of veggies with their soup. It may look small in the bowel but once you add all the veggies in it, it is very overwhlemingly satisfying. This is one of the cleanest Bun Bo Hue places in town with a great broth.

Came back here with my dad the other day and I’m just about done with this place. The waiter decides that it’s his business to ask me why I’m on crutches, which I tell him I just had knee surgery. And then he continues to ask me why I’m wearing the clothes I’m wearing, cause it looks like I’m about to go on a hike instead of going to eat. I just had knee surgery, I’m not going to wear a skirt and a blouse out to eat. I want to be comfortable so I’m going to wear what I want to wear and that in which is none of my waiters business. This waiter is rude, pushy, and extremely overbearing. For having such good food, they’ve made a mistake by hiring such shitty waiters.

I love restaurants specializing in one main dish. This place is such one and it focuses on Bun Bo Hue. Bun Bo Hue is what you want after a night of too much drinking. I’ve eaten here twice, during its opening week and end of August 2015. The interior design has a contemporary touch and the glass doors and huge windows help with the natural lighting. Chopsticks, spoons and napkins were brought in a wooden box by the waiter once we sat down at the table. I am not a big fan of finding tons of chopsticks and spoons already waiting in a case for how many moons. Not to mention potential exposure to other customers already. Yes, a very tiny germaphobic here. Baseline this place is nice and clean. We were served some iced tea’ish water(it was ok, pretty flavorless, don’t mind it, you probably just slurp your Bun Bo broth) and a plate of veggies that you’d garnish with your Bun Bo Hue later. Veggies were fresh and composed of soybean sprouts, banana blossoms, cabbage, limes, perilla and Vietnamese Coriander. Their broth is bomb, it’s not crazily sweet compared to other Bun Bo Hue providers. Be warned when you order it spicy: Sweat and cough included! At my first visit I’ve asked the owner if he is going to broaden the menu: «We like to keep it simple here and serve only the best we can offer. We want to add Bò Bía to the menu, but that is not gonna happen until end of July.» Diplomatic response. My second visit was end of August: Still no Bò Bía on the menu. Taking off one star from 5.

Great place for Bun bo hue. The place is nice and clean. The broth is always consistence and good size portion. The veggies come plenty for the soup. If you love Bun bo Hue, then this is the place for you in Portland!

I think this is a very solid bowl of bun bo hue! They only serve bun bo hue so if you’re looking for other stuff this is not your place. Perfect sauciness and the beef tendon was perfect(not too chewy and overcooked) Loved the rau ram leaves they give you with the bun Bo hue. Def come back here for bun Bo hue!!!

I seriously can’t get enough of this place! It’s so good like I can eat it breakfast lunch and dinner! They are so generous with their meat and pork blood! Most places like put two pieces. And they have banana flower which i love love love in my soup! And someone told me that’s the traditional way to eat it with banana flower, so if they don’t serve it fuck that place and eat bbh here! Only reason why I give them four stars is because they have like no menu and it’s 10.50 for a bowl but way worth it, and service is ehh but who cares bomb soup

No menus, only one dish served here: Bun Bo Hue. The broth and noodles were above average compared to other phở places in town. We saw our server/waiter no more than two times, when we ordered and when we paid. Decent Bun Bo Hue, but bad service and no other foods available.

Only serves bun bo hue here! $ 10.50 for the large bowl. Super yummy and a very reasonable portion size. The broth is flavorful and you can add satay at the table if you want yours spicy. You can personalize your bowl if you don’t like certain parts of the bun bo hue. For example, I have them hold the coagulated blood. The waiter we had was very nice and the place is clean/well kept. I know they have thai iced tea but not sure what other beverages they have.

I usually love bon bao soup. But this place’s soup was flavorless. It looked like it would be full of flavors, but the noodles were just bleh and i really wish i could taste all the spices but it was just oily watery soup:( It was even sadder since the blood and the meat were good quality. I give a star for that. I just ate the meat

If you’re looking for options, you’re out of luck! If you’re looking for a kick ass bowl of Bun Bo Hue, come on in! I was expecting at least a menu with something on it but there isn’t one. You can get a bowl of BBH and that’s it. I ALWAYS judge a place that serves BBH by the veggies they bring out before the soup. I often get let down when just some lettuce, mint, and bean sprouts comes out. These guys do it right! All the right fixins come with it. The broth was spot on. Not as spicy as I like it but I guess it’s pretty easy to add some hot peppers to it. And it had green onions in it! Not sure what it is about them in the broth but it just makes it for me. Not sure if they’re just trying to impress because they’re new, but it was hands down one of the meatiest bowls of BBH I’ve ever had and it had the blood cubes in it! Glad they didn’t hold those back. The space has a pretty modern feel and is small. They have on of those flashy square machines for all your credit carding needs. Good place, glad it was pretty full when I went.

I love places that serve only one dish. It means they have a focused detail to attention to just that. Here, they do Bun Bo Hue well. I like to call it phở for advanced eaters. The location and facilities are very nice and cozy. Not too cheezy. Service is fast considering they only have one dish. And it’s done really well. Broth was spot on. There are a few kinks still need of work(details). But def going again.

This is a new bun bo hue place. It just opened yesterday and it is already pretty busy. My friend and I went to check it out and they didn’t offer us a menu, telling us today they were only serving bun bo hue. I’m unsure if they will have a more expanded menu regularly, but it seems like it is likely given what they said. Like Bun Bo Hue(the restaurant further south on 82nd) they gave us a light iced tea with the soup and a similar bunch of vegetables. The décor is more modern and the soup is packed with what you would expect in bun bo hue — blood, pig feet and sausage. I hate to compare this place to Bun Bo Hue, but I think it begs the comparison. It’s a bit easier to get to for people who don’t live in south Portland, but the lack of a menu(for now) makes it a place for bun bo hue lovers only. That might be fine, given their card reads«eat more bun bo hue.» The broth was a little less flavorful than what I recall it being at Bun Bo Hue, but perhaps they are still working out the kinks. Additionally, while I order my soup laden with everything, my friend picked out the chunky bits from her soup, and I think some people appreciate Bun Bo Hue’s query if you would like the soup with«everything.» I feel like this is a solid addition to the Jade District with a lovely, clean interior and while it may not quite live up to Bun Bo Hue just yet, there’s still time to grow and it’s certainly been busy the past two days. Hopefully it will be a great addition to the flourishing Vietnamese noodle soup business here!
