Great place to go with friends and/or family. The barbecue tofu plate with greens, black-eyed peas, and garlic bread will not disappoint.

My wife and I made a day trip up to Portland from Eugene to experience as many plant based/vegan restaurants as we could. Bye & Bye was on the top of our list and it did not disappoint! I ordered the Weeping Tiger sandwich, my wife ordered the Cornmeal Tempeh Sandwich and we shared the pretzel knots. The food was amazing, and extremely flavorful! Great vibe and great food!

As a long –time vegetarian, I really wanted to like the Bye and Bye. It was featured in Vegetarian Times, and for reasons I will never understand, has good reviews. I did not see any hipsters(after all, hipsters eat bacon, of which there was none, and gluten, of which there was plenty) and found the patrons to be much older than I expected based on other reviews. My cocktail was good(but tiny, not served in a large mason jar like other drinks they serve. This decent drink is the only reason I can give it 2 stars. There were no decent(and if it matters, few local) beers on tap. For me, the biggest problem was the service. We ordered at the bar, but were ignored for a very long time. The bar tender chatted with others as if we weren’t there. We asked for water when placing our order and again at the table. We never received it, and if their water is self –serve, were never told where to find it. When the server delivered our pretzel knots(also good but tiny), she took our number and our entrees could not be delivered. I had to go find our number. We had one server bring out the appetizer and another bring our entrée. Both just set our food down and walked away. The food was so, so BAD. Again, I’ve been a vegetarian for 20 years. I know what vegetarian food tastes like. I took 1 bite of my meal and couldn’t take another. At this point, the service had been so bad and so slow, I didn’t know how to ask for something else and just left my awful sandwich.

Cocktails are well priced for what you get, and the food menu is amazing. This is my second time here, and they definitely don’t skimp on the portions. The bartender(tall — to me — tattoos, mustache, skinny) was really attentive and knowledgable, and the server Scott(?) was so kind and quick. I have pretty wretched social anxiety, and hearing how busy this place is I was a bit worried, but a steady Sunday afternoon and it’s perfect. Thanks y’all.

Bye and Bye came highly recommended. Which is why our experience was so disappointing. I ordered the ever popular spaghetti & meat balls(it looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour or more), my boyfriend had chips & salsa(right out of a bag & jar) and a veggie sandwich(bland & boring). We both found the atmosphere very loud, no rhyme or reason to the ordering or finding a table process(there’s a sign over the bar that states not to create a line and the crowd to order was 20 deep). Hipster meets vegan meets bar… Totally confusing.

Great space for a drink: open, comfortable, good tap list, good service. Food is vegan, mostly tofu bowls, well executed and very reasonably priced.

Yummm!!! You’ll love the food regardless if you’re vegan. It’s hipster for sure, but has a lot to offer. Two patio areas, large and lovely indoor area, good drinks and great food. We got the Brussel bowl(lots of Unilocal reviews about that swayed me), the edamame, and the weeping tiger sandwich. The Brussel bowl was soooo yummy! And the edamame I could not stop eating. The sandwich was bland. Next time I would like to try the eastern bowl. It’s all good, these people know how to make vegan food taste damn good. Service was okay, you have to order at the bar. Food came out quickly. Ambiance is cool! I love the patios. There is a front patio and a back. We sat in the back and they had string lights and bamboo. Inside is nice and bright and open. Cool artwork. Lots of people in flannels and hipster attire. Prices are not bad. About $ 9 per meal. Happy hour isn’t really a deal.

This is a MUST Visit when in Portland. I do visit a lot of vegan places but this just felt different. The drinks were great and the service was good. But the food was crazy delicious! We tried everything we could together and every taste was just well balanced. nice sitting inside and outside!

Crappy service, mediocre drinks, and a vegan menu make this hipster-laden bar unbearable. The only reason I stepped foot in this joint was to say hello to friends from out of town. I’m not sure if it’s a permanent smell, but the place reeked of patchouli and apathy. The Alberta Street Pub is a much better option. You still get the hipsters, but you at least get good food and service.

One of the better bars I’ve been to since moving to Portland. There was LOTS of sitting room, including a covered smoking area in the back. The drinks are reasonably priced if you’re not looking to get all fancy with your cocktails and just want to grab a cold beer. The food was DELICIOUS! I’m not a vegan and the sandwich I got was soooooooo good. I’d go there again just to eat, let alone hang out. OH and here’s another thing I noticed, and it might just have been the night I was there because it was a weeknight, but people weren’t «lining up» at the bar. Coming from NJ, the whole single-file-and-wait-for-the-bartender thing was a weird culture shock. Where I come from, you just belly up to the bar, hold out your money and the bartender gives you a beer. Lines are for schoolchildren. We’re here to drink! I wish this place was a little closer to my side of town. I’d be there all the time.

Get out of here! This spot is a new favorite! BBQ tofu with brussel sprouts… everyone talks about it, for a reason. It is PHENOM. I got the frito pie which was too big for my stomach, but I kept on eating it anyway. Ridiculously good. They were out of pretzels on this visit, darn it. But next time hopefully they won’t be! A little unique in that you go place your order at the bar and sit down to be served your order. No waiter service here.

I’m not a vegetarian, but I am a longtime fan of the BBQ tofu platter and the BBQ Brussels bowl at Bye and Bye. Both are amazing! Plus you get good deals at happy hour, great food all the time, a diverse selection of drinks, including big fancy jar drinks, and a cute patio. One of my favorites among the bars that also have good food in Portland.

The fucking cunt at the door wouldn’t let my SOBER friend in. Clearly, they have a poorly trained staff who are ill equipped to handle standard Portland clientele. NEVER visiting this place again. Warning all associated organizations against participating with this vendor.

A perfect place to spend a last night of a Portland visit. The vegan chili pie, the Bye & Bye cocktail in a HUGE mason jar(casual drinkers will be set), the patio seating with heaters, the beanied hipster Portland crowd. My friend had the meatball sub and loved it, too. Prompt, warm service at the full bar and good prices.

Chalk the Bye and Bye up to one of the FEW establishments on Alberta that doesn’t annoy me! Yay! Bitchin’ back patio. I mean, feels like another world practically. Maybe beats the patio at Rontoms. Vegan eats. Closer in and situated around NE10th, not up towards the Alberta shit show that begins around 18th. Ample parking. Yeah, this place pretty much does it for me. I will say I haven’t eaten there yet, so I’ll have to return and have a meal to bestow the Bye and Bye with it’s proper 5-star review. I’m sure they’ll ace it.

I give it five golden-stars mainly only because it’s an all-vegan pub that provides delightful drinks in mason jars. Beyond that it’s amazing vegan food like meatball sandwiches, Rubens, and grilled cheese…

A pretty fun spot. I would definitely like to try out more of their food but did get to try their meatball sub, cake and pretzel bites. All were pretty great! I would never guess that they were vegan. Amazing!!! I ordered a Stockholm and it was incredible. Loved it!

This is my absolute favorite bar and place to grab a bite to eat. I love every item on the menu. I just recently moved to Las Vegas and can say I am having major withdrawals from their Eastern Bowl. There is no place quite like The Bye and Bye.

Popped in last night for a drink and snack with two others. Their nutch tofu is delightful, as is their signature drink. Staff is great – very friendly.

Their food options totally rock. Their drinks are awesome. Their atmosphere is a little crowded, but the people are great. Servers are polite and on it. The reason for only a 4? The music sucks badly. Too loud, and often a grouchy dark noisy cacophony adding to the feeling of it being too crowded. The music choice can actually be a deal breaker for me. That said, it’s one of our favorite places.

The epitome of vegan hipster in Portland. So happy to hit up this place. Great for drinks and food; happy hour spot? Oh I’m sure it is. It varies in ages because it’s not just a bar but a great restaurant too. Not your typical sit down and order from a waitress type. You walk in, order at the bar and they hand you a number, someone will eventually bring it over to you. I ordered the Cock & Bull Ginger Beer straight and it had great flavor but I didn’t like the burn aftertaste that ginger can leave. It was too much for me but my +1 loved it. He ordered the North Williams and«mmm yessss» was the reaction I got so I assume he really loved it. Friendly staff and service. We ordered the BBQ tofu and sprouts SOGOODSOGOOD, rice is hidden but it’s delicious so dig to the bottom and find it. Sprouts are cooked perfect and the bbq sauce was amazing. Miso soup bowl not as good but I think because the bbq flavor took away from it. A MUSTTRY if you’re in the area. Great for vegans and people who love to eat new stuff.

The Bye and Bye is by far the best Vegan Bar I’ve been to … ever … but«it’s still vegan» … or should I say«yay, it’s vegan»? You may either love or hate it … or just not care depending on how vegan you are because the vegan pub grub was still pretty vegany. My favorite vegan discovery was beer: classic, cold, hoppy veganism on tap. If you are looking to just drink in the quiet indoors, on the hip back porch, or the lively parking lot patio, then the Bye and Bye is a pretty cool bar along trendy Alberta Street. The vegan food wasn’t nearly as thrilling as vegan suds, but it was a-ok. We ordered three popular items to share and each was three stars: Pretzel Knots(2 per order), BBQ Tofu & Brussel Sprouts with Avocado(Lacked oomph even with Sriracha) and a Weeping Tiger Sandwich(made with tofu instead of tiger). Daily Happy Hour from 4:00 — 7:00 p.m. will save a $ 1 on some drinks and menu items. Bring friends to share and say hello to what may be the best Vegan Bar you’ve ever tried: The Bye and Bye.

I’m shocked that I have not composed a review for The Bye and Bye yet. I absolutely adore this place! My favorite time of year to frequent this bar is in the summer because they have lots of outdoor space,(in both the front and back of the bar). This doesn’t mean it is awful to hang out here in the cold rainy season though. The inside is very cozy and dark. Really a nice chill place to go catch up with friends. They have a full bar and a decent selection of beers and hard cider. I most recently got a cranberry hard cider that was to die for. The main reason I love this place is for the food. Their whole menu is filled with amazing veggie friendly things. I can’t get away from ordering the Eastern Bowl. Fresh broccoli, tofu, and brown rice, topped with a spicy ginger peanut sauce. Throw some Sriracha in there and I’m more than happy! The service has always been great for me here, even if they are busy the line seems to go fast. They also have happy hour everyday from 4PM till 7PM. They currently offer deals on food and drinks. I’m glad I’m not too far away from this bar and always like to suggest going here when looking for a bar in the NE Alberta neighborhood.

Really good, reasonably priced drinks here. The Brussels sprouts – my new favorite vegetable – is perfectly prepared here. I’ll stick with that because tofu – even mouthwatering barbecued tofu – doesn’t agree with me. Clean, bright space with good service. It won’t be my first choice, but it’s a great option when dining out with vegan friends.

If you are not from Portland, you are probably not welcome here! We were super excited to go here on our trip to Portland. I had already picked out from the online menu what I was going to order. However, when we arrived and had our ID checked, we were denied entry because they didn’t accept foreign driving licences(we are from Canada!) — at least this is the excuse we were given and the doorman refused to tell us why. We don’t walk around town with our passports on us, so we had to leave. We asked around at other bars in Portland and were told that this is definitely not appropriate. It’s also surprising, because I wouldn’t think that visitors from British Columbia would be that usual. Super disappointing. But instead we visited the Bollywood theatre so it all ended up alright for us — I definitely recommend that place instead.

I first came here about 5 years ago when I was Vegan-ish. I’ve been back several times now that I’m a regular Omnivore. The Bbq Brussel bowl is very good. The Chili pie is good and reminds me of Halloween at my Aunt Connie’s house. The Meatball sub is very good too –I’m not missing the meat at all! A nice selection of unique cocktails to suit every palate with sour, sweet, salty, and smoky. A go-to for evenly priced tasty food and drinks for sure!

«You’ve checked in here 2 times… what keeps you coming back?» Duh, the Bye and Bye! I freaking love that drink. It’s one of those drinks that you dream about when you are not there. Big, pink, peachy yum. And a vegan menu, including a BBQ Brussel sprout bowl. AND they have really fantastic outdoor space in the back. I look forward to a visit here whenever I’m in Portland!

One of my favorite bars in the world. Incredible cocktail list and reasonably priced drinks. Highly recommend any of their specialty tequila cocktails, especially the«Lefty’s Prayer» which included beet infused tequila, rosemary syrup, and lime. The«Bye&Bye» is also lovely-served in a 32 oz mason jar and the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. The food here is excellent. Yesterday I tried the«Eastern Bowl» which contains perfectly steamed veggies and nutritional yeast breaded tofu-ridiculously good. Add avocado for $ 1. Really lovely balanced food that went perfectly with my cocktail. My friends and I also split a slice of pistachio cake with vanilla icing, which was excellent. The ambiance here is beautiful, with both a front and back patio-TONS of seating. Gorgeous lighting, and a great place to hangout and talk with friends. They played Morrissey for the entire 5 hours that I hungout there-finally a bar with fantastic taste in music! Servers were all super friendly. The entire establishment is vegan. I would consider moving to Portland just to come here all the time.

More! I was very excited to check this place out, being… you guessed it! Vegan! The place was packed to the brim when we got there, but we were lucky enough to snag a parking spot in the very small lot. I got the signature drink, the Bye and Bye which comes in a mason jar and is oh, so yummy! Peach vodka and peach bourbon. I was nice and toasty after just one, so it was well worth the $ 8. I also tried the allspice bourbon drink(the old timer maybe?) which was okay, but a bit heavy on the allspice for me. We ordered the pretzels, which come with awesome cashew cheese. I had the BBQ tofu platter which was very good. The beans were the best thing on the plate. Chard was yum, and the tofu was very good. Tasted like they doused the tofu in BBQ sauce, which would have been better as a glaze. But still good. Husband had the«meat“ball sandwich with oat cheese(what!?). Very good as well. We enjoyed sitting outside in the front and didn’t mind the slightly chilly evening. No space heaters, so if you get chilly easy, definitely bring a sweater. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu! Oh and good beer selection too.

In the past couple weeks, the Bye and Bye has become my bar and my home base. They have an awesome drink selection: get a craft cocktail, a giant mason jar cocktail, a rotating craft beer, glass of wine, or a PBR tallboy. THEYHAVEALLTHEALCOHOLSFORYOU. Friend: «Do you want to go out tonight?» Me: «No, but I’ll grab a drink at the Bye and Bye.» *we end up meeting a birthday group there and joining a night of strip-club debauchery* The crowd here is really rad human beings, bartenders included. Sit outside in the heated and covered back patio(!!!) for your smoking and friend-making enjoyment. Hungry? Holy crap, their food looks amazing. Guess what though? It’s… not. The Samurai Bowl was basically just a bowl of dry tofu and dry brown rice. The Frito Pie was chili. Simple, but tasty. The food here is kind of like your vegan friend made it at home, for the most part. I’m not going to knock the Bye and Bye for their food because it IS a vegan bar, after all. It’s just that this omnivore cannot be satisfactorily fed here. It’s okay though. I still love you, BB.

On our last visit to PDX, we had spent the day exploring our favourite haunts. Our marvelous day ended up here as a surprise planned by my husband. He put in the address to the GPS and I didn’t know where we were headed. I was surprised to realise it was a bar since he’s not really a drinker. Parking was easy. We found a spot in their lot and headed inside. The place was dimly lit with several scattered couples at the bar and around the place. We sat underneath an oil painting of Evel Knievel but almost sat outside in the enclosed back patio with large heaters and picnic tables. We noticed that folks were heading outside for cigarettes so we stayed under Evel’s watchful eye. We ordered at the bar from the late night menu of Southern-inspired vegan food. For us to share, I ordered some chips and hummus, pretzel knots with mustard and cashew nut cheese sauce, Frito pie, and lastly, a bowl of collard greens and black-eyed peas over brown rice. While we waited on our food, I ordered some drinks. For him, a tasty Blenheim ginger ale and for me, a Victrola — Pearl Pomegranate vodka, cranberry, fresh lime and a splash of grapefruit. Both drinks were delicious! Our food came quickly and the pretzel knots were so good that we ordered a second plate of them. That cashew nut cheese sauce was extremely tasty! I also enjoyed the Frito pie but wished the cheese was melted. The bartender was nice and my drink was really strong. I would definitely return here for late night or HH noms too!
