Shout out to Kate Ellis! This is my second time getting a trim from her and I have to say it’s even better than the first! My long hair is revitalized. The length is perf and the layering is on point w my head shape, etc. Love the soft curl. My hair feels and smells amazing. Thanks and I’d be back :)

Carole Carole Carole. She is the first person in my significant experience who says she knows curly hair and REALLY KNOWS IT. She started by dry cutting it because how do you know what you’re cutting with curly hair when it’s wet? Brilliant. She explained why she was doing what she was doing at every step and it all made so much sense, and was so much more simple than other approaches I’ve experienced. She also gave me a hot tip that I’m pretty sure is the end to using product unless I’m going for something other than fabulous natural curls: don’t rinse conditioner out of hair. Leave that stuff in or rinse very lightly. Curly hair is typically on the dry side, and while it’s wet is absorbs it so well and is moisturized and light and soft and shiny and perfectly curly. After 20 years of professionals trying to find their way around my hair, she is the first to really deliver to goods with no reservations. I’m elated. THANK YOU Carole!!!

Can’t say enough good things! The atmosphere is really inviting and the wall art is entertaining. Most importantly, my stylists Lindsay ROCKS! She was my stylist before she moved to PDX. She is worth flying across the country for a haircut or color. Seriously, she’s good. She cured my overgrown dull hair. Did a sweet dye job with a really deep black. Its oddly blacker than any black dye I’ve used before. And the cut was fantastic! Edgy, but professional. Thanks Linds!

Hairstylists are like dentists in my eyes — its hard to find one you want to go back to see. Presley is just that. I’d deduct a star because she’s always booked out a few weeks, but thats just representative of her skill. Highly recommend.

Heather the owner contacted me via Unilocal and offered to re-​cut my hair for free. It’s definitely better than it was, but I’m pretty sure that it will all be cut off into a bob on the next cut which I scheduled in 4 weeks because the front is totally a different «zone» than the back. My partner said it looks like I have a lobette (lob = long bob in the front with long hair in the back slightly resembling a mullet, but cuter.) I’ve been growing my hair out for the last 3 years so it’s a bit of a blow. It holds a style without 40 minutes of a flat iron, which is awesome. The texture is better and my bangs are no longer in my eyes when dry and have a lovely shape. Heather definitely gets shaping. But I still feel that there is a disconnect from the front and back– without going full whack I think Heather did what she could do.
Heather told me she wished I would have contacted the salon first to make sure the fit was better and that this was my mistake in picking a stylist. I wish this piece of information was on the website somewhere so clients can make better choices if the quality so greatly varies from stylist to stylist. I was also told I was given a flat iron cut, which the original stylist was really good at. (?) I never asked for this cut and I had never even heard of a flat iron cut before. And this experience will forever have me fleeing from any stylist who even suggests one in the future. I made a poor choice in choosing the original stylist. Heather was kind enough to give an hour of her time to fix it but the damage had already been done from a hair perspective and customer service standpoint. Good on the owner for being proactive in her response to the Unilocal reviews.

I highly recommend Carole for color correction. I had read Unilocal reviews and decided to book an appointment with her and I was not disappointed. I had awful dyed red hair that is now a beautiful deep auburn that is close to my natural so I can grow it out. Carole took a lot of time during the consultation to help me decide the best plan for me and keeping within my budget. Its a nice shop as well and in the heart o f lovely St. Johns. I will return.

I found out about this shop via an online group. I read some good reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. I must say I am super happy. I haven’t gone to a shop for my hair for a few years, cuz the last time it got messed up bad! Well, I am so glad I went from Gresham to St Johns. Carole was the bomb. She listened to me. My hair looks great. The compliments I have gotten have been great! I can’t say enough good about my experience. If your not sure, give it a try. This shop has a great vibe! Happy Hair!!!

I absolutely adore this salon! Great location, amazing décor, and the best stylist in town who is, without a doubt, Cam Schwartzkopf. I have long, thick, unruly hair that I have never trusted to anyone else because it can be hard to work with. Cam exceeds my expectations every time I see him for everything from a simple cut to a complicated bleach job. I can’t imagine getting my hair done anywhere else!

Shannon Bushnell is amazing.
I have long, naturally curly hair and have experienced many a bad haircut in my day. After doing a quick consult, she got down to business. After a cut, I’m used to being disappointed after I wash/​style it on my own. Not this time! A month later and it’s still looking lovely.
My boyfriend also has naturally curly, shoulder length hair. He usually opts for the cheaper, chain-​salon cuts, but since his hair had gotten much longer I told him it would be worth it to go see Shannon. Another amazing job! She even convinced him to put a little bit of product in his hair (something I have been attempting for years) and he is looking quite handsome.
Outside of Shannon’s fantastic skills, the Parlour is a great little shop. Everyone is friendly and it seems they have great connections with their clientele. The walls are covered with interesting art pieces. They also have a great selection of hair care products.

One of my closest friends gets her hair coloured and cut at the Parlour so I called them up and had the BEST experience with Carole! She was so bubbly and easy to talk to and she also gave me the cutest cut. I LOVE the way she did my bangs and even asked me to switch up the side I have them. I am definitely going to get my cuts here from now on!

You get what you pay for. If you want a great and intimate atmosphere with impeccable service and stellar results, go to The Parlour. I needed a place to get a long overdue highlight and cut after moving to Portland. Stellar Unilocal reviews led me to The Parlour and I’m glad I listened.
Carole spent 3 hours with me making sure I got the color and cut I wanted and even taught me a few things about how best to take care of my thin hair. She took great pride in her work and it shows. I may have paid a bit more than anticipated but I won’t go anywhere else in the future. The Parlour is a cool spot with great staff and Carole is a master. She was kind, awesome to chat with and worked wonders on my hair.
Can’t say enough about this place. Go here, just don’t take my appointment slot!

Lindsey G is incredible! She has been doing my hair for almost 10 years. She strives to continually stay ahead of the trend curve so her skills are always in tune with exactly what you are looking for. She is adventurous and honest. She won’t knowingly let you do something to your hair that she knows will damage it, or end up not looking good with your skin/​face shape/​complexion. I always appreciate an honest stylist over a «yes man.» Go see her immediately. You won’t be disappointed!!!

Carole is a serious saint, she saved me!
I had box dyed my hair which was a HUGE mistake, it came out nearly black, splotchy, uneven, and not pretty. In a frantic I came to Carole at The Parlour and she worked absolute magic. She did a full head of highlights and made a gross black mess into a golden, caramel, summery brown which I am absolutely in love with! She is so passionate, knowledgeable, and detail oriented with her work that I swear she is a wizard when it comes to coloring and correcting. She is by far the sweetest, funniest, most talented and down to earth kind of gal you would ever want to touch your hair.
Thank you for making me feel pretty again!!!

SO! There really isn’t any end to the good things I can say about this establishment, but I’ll try to make it short and sweet!
I got a tattoo from Marc Jordan. He is not only competent, he listens to your needs, and is VERY sterile. Having clean and safe practices is always a huge thing for me so I was very happy with his attention to this. Also, he’s just an amazing artist. He did a wonderful rendition of a sketch I adore on my upper arm. Lines are incredibly clean and his shade and color work is really something too. I got it 3 days ago and the healing process is right on track. Thank you Marc!!!
Now, Miss Kate. I went in with long hair I’d been guarding with my life for… oh, I dont know, approximately 10 years!!! And flounced out with the cutest A-​Line cut ever. Listens to your wants, and sets you up with a style you’ll be able to work on your daily routine. For me I wanted cute/​sassy with really low maintenance. I knew I wanted an A-​Line but left the length up to her, which resulted in something I (and all my friends) thought was the best thing I could do for my «look».
Both of these employees and amazing, and I would recommend them to any one.

Lindsey Lea is a Wizard. The Hair Coloring Maven. First and foremost, she is smart. This matters when it comes to the chemistry behind coloring/​bleaching/​correcting/​grey covering; all of which I needed to get my box colored auburn-​in-​the-​sun-​but-​brown-​the-​rest-​of-​the-​time hair to the Copper Bombshell look I wanted. Did I mention she is smart? This also matters when it comes to the physiology of your individual hair type and how it will respond to the colorant and processing. She sets realistic expectations, and takes her time, and the outcome was phenomenal. Lindsey is a highly skilled professional and worth every dime.
I can honestly say, for the first time, I left the salon feeling like you are supposed to: better than I could have imagined and gorgeous!
(PS, she also happens to be awesome and funny and you’ll love her, but that’s all gravy. This review needed to focus on her skills!)

Heather, the owner, very kindly contacted me after I posted this review, apologized, and offered a couple remedies to try to make this better. We had a lovely phone conversation about my experience and potential remedies (refund, recut, donation to good causes [which The Parlour already does in spades!]). Since this was a couple weeks after the cut, I opted to get a recut since some of the layers were growing out very choppy. We had an equally good conversation in person today when I got the choppy layers smoothed out.
I truly appreciate Heather, the owner’s professionalism, willingness to listen, and find a way to try to make this right. She also recommended a couple other stylists at the salon whose personality may be a better fit for me.
It’s interesting — while the initial cut was not what i wanted, it has grown on me in the past month and I’ve figured out how to live my active life with chin-​length hair. And the cut — now that I’m used to it — is flattering and makes me look a younger.
So perhaps the morals of the story are: 1) if someone is running 30 minutes late, take a rain check. 2) always, always support your local neighborhood businesses; and 3) give the grace for people to have a not-​so-​good day and to know we’re all trying.

Kate was my daughter’s stylist. She was very sweet and had great ideas. My daughter is in love with her new style! I highly recommend this place. The area is also pretty fun to walk around.

I have hair that other people mistake for nice hair. They say, «oh your hair is so soft… so straight…»
My hair is the demon spawn of northern european genetics. It’s straight like an arrow, sticks up at the slightest hint of excitement — let alone electricity — and basically makes me feel like Alfalfa lucked out with just that one spike. Cowlicks, weird swirls, odd bumps and scars, well, my head and my hair aren’t easy to make look good. I had a fantastic (5x best hair stylist in Milan Fashion week) hair lady some time ago, but the commute to Istanbul got a bit pricey. Oh, I wish that was hyperbole. So anyway, I tried 15 or so different places here in Portland where I got my hair mauled before wandering into The Parlour one day. Oh lucky day!
They made my hair actually look and feel great. I’m almost ready to believe what other people see on top of my head. All of the stylists are top notch.
You just can’t go wrong with any of the stylists. I travel about 6 months a year and more or less just go in when anybody has an open slot. Every single person who cut my hair has done a wonderful job. Are they happy when they see me? Well, … the new guy, Cam, won the job today and when I walked in the ladies burst into laughter. «Cam, you’re getting initiated. This guy’s hair is interesting…» Let’s face it, interesting is not a complement.
Cam overcame. He did a great job. I highly recommend Cam and the entire crew at the Parlour — St Johns. You’ll be stoked.

It was pure scissor artistry by hair stylist Jasmine. I had been cutting my own hair when it was longer since I moved to Portland– sometimes to decent results but mostly not. Oops! When I was finally at the bob length, I knew it was time for some precision and style (no room for amateurs here).
Jasmine made my return to the salon chair as painless as possible. I felt like a VIP guest as I explained what I wanted. Jasmine is a great listener and seems to ‘get’ what you want with uncanny clarity. I had a series of pictures of different long bobs and she came up with the perfect combo (angle, length) that flattered me the most and worked with my hair IQ (low maintenance, no fuss). I ended up with a super cute bob just past my chin with some subtle, beautiful texture/​layers at the ends. It can totally be dressed up or down. Casual chic– I think so.
I had an early afternoon appointment on a Monday and it was a very chill vibe at the salon. Loved the online scheduling, which makes it so easy, and the process was smooth (consult-​chitchat, shampoo wash, cut, hairdry for a dry cut, and final cut.) My only beef is that the price for a cut is on the high side, though for the excellent quality of work here, I’m very happy. Go see Jasmine for your do!
