The Waypost

This place is really fun to go to and looks cool inside. Its a nice cozy escape. They have some of the best margaritas in town. The food looks good and smells good but. eh. not so good. Also for a place that has Mexican food it would be nice to have more the one type of hot sauce or salsa.

Really great bar with really sweet bartenders. It’s hard to find really great customer service in this town and this place excels at it.

I love this place. Super laid-​back. Come here to work on your laptop and have a beer. Sometimes they host live podcasts which is super fun, sometimes there’s shows. They infuse their own liquors which is awesome. Creative cocktails. Good food.

Nice low-​key-​but-​not-​really-​divey-​bar with live music and patronage from a younger crowd.

I came to the Waypost last night for a band from out of town my girlfriend told me about. The music was good and the atmosphere was moody which I like. I saw they had music tonight and their drinks are reasonable, so I went in again with some other friends tonight. There were some cool cover songs. I also liked the bartender with the red braids. She remembered what I liked to drink from the night before and offered me food and the tacos were pretty good. A lot of small bars like this one avoid their food menu and just push booze. Their infused liquor drinks are tasty and worth their price. I’m going to definitely be checking out what they have going on when planning a night out or showing company around Portland.

Hard to not love the small bar in Portland. The Waypost does not disappoint. Average prices with above average service and cocktails. I recommend any of their margarita’s, especially the Hot Stuff. Ask for the bearded gentleman, Jared, he’ll take good care of ya

Awful nachos. $ 10 dollars for one layer of soggy chips, no cheese, BEANS, and no guac or sour cream. Such a disgrace. This establishment should be burned to the ground.

Good spot. Fish tacos were decent. Good infused cocktails and friendly service. Place is overrun with hipsters in awkward sweaters and mustaches, but hey, welcome to NoPo. Ride your bike and soak it up.

The happy hour prices are great for the portion you recieve. There’s a beautiful garden patio with picnic tables, and the location is in a great part of town.

Yes! Exactly what this place is meant to be! Delicious vegan options, chill dive bar vibe, good indie bands, and great service. Love that you can just be anyway you want to be and feel at home.

This is one of my neighborhood spots. I wouldn’t call it a vegan place though. I’m vegetarian and I can only eat a handful of items on the menu. Let’s be real though, I go there for the booze. Some of the best prices in town. One bartender can get a bit grumpy if he’s in the weeds or you have a Groupon or! in the weeds and you have a groupon. Yeah, I was that guy once and man was he pissed at me.
Only other con — it gets hot as hell in there in the summer. Better get there before post work happy hour or all the outside table will be gonzo. Pro in the con, the outside seating is in a local garden. Sorry smokers, you gotsta smoke those American Spirits outside of the garden.

i really jive on this place. it’s classic portland hipster yes, BUT they have a super chill vibe, lots of table space community seating style and they make a mean drink. music events here are intimate and highly recommended in my book.
all in all it’s charming, small and perfectly suited to the vancouver/​williams corridor! love it. it’ll be competing for some of my time at vendetta now: P

The Waypost is an Arizona-​themed pub with shows, vegan food, a full bar and plenty of outside and inside seating. There’s a lot to love about them. They even offer one of the cheapest brunches you can find in Portland that’s still made with quality ingredients and skill. Prices are $ 4.50-$ 8. That’s pretty rad, guys.
They infuse their own liquor, which is fun to play around with to spice up your standard whiskey soda or vodka tonic. The ginger-​honey bourbon and honey-​oat vodka are my favorites. Their signature cocktails are pretty clever too, like the «Daddy’s Horchata,» which adds rum to horchata with a fresh cinnamon stick. I was pretty content drinking that out in their patio, which is basically a garden. It’s pretty cozy inside too– the décor is eccentric and fun.

Love this place! Everyone that works here is so nice, helpful and funny. I host my book club there on Thursday evenings and they reserved a table for me when I called earlier that day :-) Super nice!
Another bonus is their happy hour. Gotta love grabbin’ a delicious infused-​tequila margarita and some plantain tacos. Oh and there are vegan options, woohoo!
They host a lot of events: music, Wares, community gatherings, etc. It’s a pretty jazzy place, check out their website for updates. And those events are free! There is a suggested cash donation (I recommend pitching in) for the peeps performing.
Beware though, in the summer it can get pretty steamy but that’s why they serve chilled beer.
There’s a brunch on the weekends that starts at 10 am that I have yet to go to — I’ll update my review once that happens!

A decent spot to drink on Williams. Plenty of space, but it sure gets noisy. This place seems to maintain a loyal group of followers. I was expecting some top notch cocktails, but wasn’t overly impressed with anything they had to offer. They have several house infused liquors, and they honestly were not all that either. Not bad and in no way was I super disappointed, but just not anything to get your hopes over. I will say I enjoyed the live music they had to offer on a Friday night. I stayed for 2 different sets and both provided nice vibes and added to the atmosphere. I would certainly consider coming here for live music.
And finally, while I can’t comment much on the food, I will say, WHERE WAS THE GUACAMOLE?! For a place that has tacos, tex mex, and chips & salsa, I thought surely I could snack on some guacamole.

The WayPost is Way Cool.
Cozy ambiance, slightly dark, like a cool party basement —
I’ve seen people in the early hours (2pm ish) with their headphones and their PC just chillin’, cheerful groups gathering for pints and a chat, craft cocktails being served, and a friendly vibe from patrons and staff.
I bellyed up to the bar and had a local IPA in a mason jar. I had just the one, but was tempted to stay. Cute bartenders with charm.
They host a lot of acts, music, and others. I do want to try their brunch sometime. Something for everyone here. I didn’t see one typical group: it was all ages, types, I love that variety.

I’m going with 3 for now. I would have gone 3.5 if you guys would let me. Because I do indeed like this place. but am I a fan? Maybe not yet. But maybe I will some day soon. The location is cool. The parking is non-​existent.
The layout is interesting… A small room at the entrance with 4 tables, allows for quieter conversations. The main area has more tables (some are picnic tables, I think). You kind of feel a bit exposed in the middle, but it’s a social and festive feel. The bar is to your left — fairly wide, but sometimes there’s not much room to stand. There’s also a stage up front to accommodate live music — which is cool. But we were there to talk, and once the place got crowded, it was hard to hear, and just forget it once the band starts. There is an outside smoking area in the front. No heat, sadly, but it’s pretty friendly and usually crowded there.
The drinks aren’t as cheap as I like during happy hour. I got the special drink on the board — a «fruit salad», it was $ 6. I didn’t really like it. But I took it back to the bartender and asked him to add a little ginger ale and cherry juice — and all was solved. They were very accommodating and quite sweet and willing to chat. My friend had a hot cocktail. I didn’t much like that either… But they have quite a few options on the menu and I will go back to check out some of them.
We didn’t eat there, but I must say that whatever I smelled when I walked in smelled divine! I wish I knew what it was. So, this place is cool… I wish it was easier to sit and cheaper to drink — but I’ll be back.

I like this place. I just don’t love it.
Let’s start with what I like. Their cocktails are really good. I had an old fashioned and a hot toddy. Both were great for the price. Their food was pretty good too. I ordered a plate of happy hour nachos for $ 6, and I feel like I got about $ 30 worth of nacho. Big heaping plate with chips, cheese, salsa, etc. THAT is what you should get when you order nachos. I know I’M not kidding around when I do.
The ambiance is overwhelmingly hipster, but I feel like you expect that. There’s plenty of space and comfy couches everywhere. There’s even a patio that’s open when the weather is good.
The one thing I do not like about this place is a pretty inconsequential and judgmental thing, but I really don’t care. In my experience, the staff is SO HIPSTER PRETENTIOUS. Like, to a degree that makes me post about it in a review on Unilocal.Some people don’t mind that, but I do. Mainly because it’s stupid.
So The Waypost is getting two stars for the food, two stars for the cocktails, and one star for the location. I’m subtracting a star because of the bartender’s haircut and outfit. He knows who he is…

On my actual birthday, I went to The Waypost. I had a Groupon burning a hole in my pocket, uh smartphone, so I decided to give the place a shot. The food was decent enough. I had the plantain tacos. The tacos were nice and spicy how I like. I only wish you got a bigger portion for the price. My Groupon deal was for 4 «infused’ drinks. I was thinking something fancy. My friend said «girl, all that means is a mixed drink.» Oh. ha, ha! The restrictions with the Groupon deal was that you could only pick drinks listed on the chalkboard behind the bar. There weren’t that many options. I decided to try the cucumber vodka just to be different. Ick! My next drink I got the jalapeño spiced something tequila. Now, that was better…
The staff was okay. The thing about The Waypost is that it’s symbolic of what’s wrong with Williams Street. The pushing out of a poor/​working class community of color for new middle class white residents clueless about the neighborhood, or know but don’t care. The Waypost will probably be a place I will never go to again because it was hard to be inconspicuous. Also, when I showed the bartender my Groupon, he made sure to click the «redeemed» button on my phone. I guess he was trying to make sure my black/​brown crew didn’t come back. Just joking. Well, half joking ;)
P. S. It’s a small space so grab a table quick when waiting for friends.

Remember the fun, fun days of basement shows? You can have that here, and a patio, and brunch, and competent bartenders. What’s not to like?~!
Part of the Waypost is literally a basement to an old wood apartment building. It could be dangerous to live in those apartments with a bar and a basement show every night! They do close the side patio early for noise with that reason, but the front tables on Williams are open nights for the duration.
The evening food is simple. They do a good job on drink specials. The brunch is the food star.
The Waypost has a good network of musicians for their basement shows and it is a gathering point for community groups in the dill pickle club and zine worlds.
It’s a fine unpretentious neighborhood bar for the close-​in bike crowd.
