Tierra Educational Center is a locally owned, independent language school located in NE Portland, Oregon. We offer small group and private Spanish classes of the highest quality for adults and children of all levels. Our experienced and enthusiastic instructors implement Tierra’s well-​structured, original curriculum utilizing dynamic and conversational activities for the most effective learning experience. By providing an open and friendly classroom environment and hosting holiday celebrations and conversation nights open to the public, we build community through the sharing of language, culture, and love of learning.

History

Established in 2009.

A family-​owned business opened in May 2009, Tierra has evolved into a thriving school and cultural center, uniting people from all walks of life through the joy of learning together. We believe that nature and human evolution show us the best way to teach a language: warm human interaction. With that in mind, we are dedicated to providing students with a welcoming, friendly, and motivational environment in which they can interact naturally with their instructor and classmates, developing their Spanish language skills through meaningful communication.

I have really enjoyed my classes at Tierra. I have been attending classes here for close to a year and look forward to continuing. Class sizes are small and the instructors are incredibly patient and encouraging and the course material is fun. Thanks Tierra!

I’m currently enrolled in my 4th semester at Tierra and it’s been great. Aside from the regular classes they also offer conversational groups to help, movie nights, parties and other ways to interact with other students in a fun and educational setting. Their schedule also has a nice variety to accommodate the needs of busy adults.

Tierra is the best place to go to if you want to learn Spanish! The class size is small which is very helpful and it is very affordable. The teachers and the staff are very caring. There is a perfect balance between conversation time and learning time in class. They always communicate with the students well and do their best in making sure all students are taking advantage of class time. Elyse was a fantastic teacher!

I really enjoyed the beginner class. I have been trying to learn Spanish for many years and this was a helpful class. Six students and a fun atmosphere make picking things up much easier. We also kept pace with the groups learning curve and that was nice. The teachers are excellent and knowledgable too. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to pick up some conversational skills.

While waiting in the hall for my first class at Tierra, I asked the person next to me where was the best place to take Spanish classes, and she said Tierra and I’ve tried them all. I haven’t tried them all, but I’ve taken three advanced classes and all were excellent. What made them excellent was the quality of the teaching. The teachers. were extremely knowledgable, well organized, and very enthusiastic about the topic.
And the classes averaged five or six students, so lots of time to practice. Can’t go wrong!

I have been attending group spanish classes at Tierra for over 2 years. I started with no spanish knowledge other than what I learned on Sesame Street as a kid.
They are very affordable compared to others, and they have great native speakers for teachers.
I have had 3 teachers for different levels, and some others as substitutes. And all their teachers are dynamic and energetic and PATIENT! Especially good for me, because I memorize vocabulary v e r y s l o w l y.
The classes are no larger than 8 people so you get really personal attention compared to the universities and colleges.
Our class has been studying together for several months and we are now all friends and have attended foreign films together around town and we sometimes bring in snacks for celebrations or special occasions like birthdays etc.
I have attended their social celebrations like Day of the Dead and Mexican Independence Day and feel like its a great little community and family at Tierra.
