Tip Top Cleaners

I brought my wedding dress in to get it cleaned. After multiple phone calls and mixed messages, I got a cleaned (not pressed) dress for $ 40. (The guy who took the dress said it would be up to $ 250!) This place is very very disorganized and not very professional but the end result is satisfactory enough. The gal almost let me walk out without paying because she thought I had paid already. It’s a good thing for them that I am an honest person. They don’t do alterations either. They told me that they would send it out and it would take 2 weeks to have pants mended. There is an alteration shop next door though. All in all — I probably won’t come back here. I’ve had better.

Of all the things I could say, the simplest is that they don’t actually clean clothes. They also don’t have a tracking system and have pathologically bad customer service.

I am so pleased with my dry cleaning experience. I brought in my peacoat which my cat peed on and not only did they remove the pee smell and make it clean but they also repaired it and sewed some buttons on it! The lady at the counter is a sweetheart. I highly recommend this place for anyone so needs a good dry cleaning. Affordable too!

I was happy with them, then they screwed up my shoulder pads on my favorite jacket. She «tried» to fix it, but just basically pushed them around told there was nothing she could do, then instead of apologizing she thanked me (several times, weird) for bringing this to her attention.
Her behavior, more than the shoulder pads, was what bothered me, just say you’re sorry for ruining my jacket and send it to a tailor. Don’t thank me…

Although I’m guessing Portland may be one of the worst markets in the US for dry cleaning dollars spent per capita… a trip to the dry cleaners has become a weekend ritual of sorts… not just for the professional but i only wish i wasn’t convinced by my girlfriend at the time it would be a good idea to wash my queen size comforter as opposed to getting dry cleaned… cheaper yes… shredded? oh yes. But i digress…
We usually chose a dry cleaner for 1) convenience to home 2) my clothes /​stuff look better than when i brought them and 3) it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
For me Tip Top meets and exceeds all these requirements… What they are not:
No «speedy» drive thru
No sleek-​bar restaurant like vibe– hiding the innards of the dry cleaning world type
No real sustainability /​chemical free prominent adverts…
you don’t get cool wood hangers
However in this tired location on the corner of Burnside and 20^th you will get:
Friendly lady up front
timely completion
My stuff looks better than when i brought it
Not super expensive
They are more than willing to do small mending for little or no charge
They are transparent when a cleaning or mending job is too big and will send you elsewhere.
So.nothing really cool or trendy… just a good old fashioned dry cleaner.

I went to Tip Top Cleaners expecting so much more. First off they offended me by acting as if I was a complete moron. They told me that my husband’s shirts were the size of a woman so they were not able to dry clean them. Secondly, they told me if I wanted to go someplace cheaper, I could go to the place down the street where they pay the employees «under the table» and offer no benefits. Wow, just wow. I would have been cool with all of this if they would have kindly explained that they didn’t have the machinery to accommodate our dry cleaning needs and that they would try to give me a discount since I’m trying to find a place to go weekly. Oh well, their lost.

Helpful, quick, etc… if you need someone to kiss your *ss perfectly while doing your laundry try somewhere else. I just wish their phone had an answering/​message service.

I’ve never had anything but great service at Tip Top Cleaners. I usually bring in the standard dry cleaning items, but sometimes I have more complex requests and they are always able to take care of them. For example, I have a blazer that another dry cleaner messed up (the alignment of the lapels was off) and even though it took a few attempts to get it right, TTC didn’t give up till I was satisfied.

Heather and her mom are excellent! Heather is always a bright spirit. Her mother has made alterations for me in a jiffy. It’s like I have new clothes every time I pick my dry cleaning. What more can you ask of a dry cleaner! Wait! There’s more… They are also eco friendly! All their cleaning supplies are bio degradable.

I went into Tip Top Cleaners looking for same day service, and got it! Both the male owner and his daughter, Heather were really friendly and accommodating. I even got a percentage off for being a new customer! I’m not sure about other people’s experiences with friendliness, and I’m sorry to hear about them. But, they were not my experience.
What I also like about Tip Top Cleaners is that they are devoted to green cleaning — i.e. no chemical crap cleaning your clothes. It is expensive, but the service and quality are well worth it! I highly recommend Tip Top Cleaners.

They always do a great job! A little spendy, but not the worst I’ve seen.

My overall experience with the owners /​employees was nothing but POSITIVE. I phoned to find out if they could take my 6′ x 8′ off white furry throw thingie & clean it. The woman on the phone was very friendly & knowledgeable. I called because they use eco friendly cleaning solution & offer wet as well as dry cleaning. I found the cost very reasonable .The best thing about it was it didn’t have a funky dry clean smell to it at all. Highly recommend this place.

I took a dress that had some tricky lipgloss stains on it and the owner was very friendly and explained their service options to me. She told me that her family has been dry cleaners for 3 generations and when she took over she started to offer all green options (to chemicals that could be damaging). I appreciated that neighborhood atmosphere of her business.

I don’t know about the other bad reviews but I never got anything but excellent service from them and I drive across the river to take stuff there. The first time I went, I had a king-​sized, down comforter that had had a terrible accident — I’d taken it to another cleaners in town and it still stunk HORRIBLY after that. I took it to Tip Top and when I got it back it was spotless, smelled wonderful and fresh and was obviously very well cleaned and the price was great. I take everything there now and they’re also an environmentally friendly cleaners.

The owner ‘lady’ of this business was quite rude when I walked in to ask about a alteration and didn’t even refer me to her Stitch in Hurry that is right next door, instead she gave me a card for another business in a different neighborhood. I smell bad blood between these businesses, and I find this kind of behavior non-​profressional to say the least to not refer to a complimentary business right next door.

I had used this place in the past and loved them! Unfortunately, this time I was less than pleased with them. When I brought my articles in (most of which were black) I was given a strict warning about «keeping the dog hair off of the clothes». Now I have had dogs my whole life and I have been dry cleaning for the last 15 years of my life and I have never had anyone instruct me to keep the dog hair off my clothes. If I was capable of keeping dog hair off of my clothes, I wouldn’t need a dry cleaner! I informed her that I have 3 dogs and they all have white/​light hair. She proceeded to tell me how much «work it is for them when there is hair on the clothes». I left my clothes that time but i certainly won’t be back.

Close to home for any on the Central Eastside, Tip Top is a landmark. I believe they are family-​owned, they don’t use PERC (icky chemical), but instead go for the green option. I don’t know if their prices are comparable, I’ve never gone anywhere else because they’re quick, friendly, and greener. When I lived in SW Portland, I would find a way back over here to use them.
