Westmoreland True Value

We have an old flashlight that is a favorite, so when it quit working & new batteries didn’t help, I went in for a bulb. The bulb wasn’t the fix, but after cleaning the connections, it was back in service.
Taking the time to give such great customer service makes me keep coming back.
It wasn’t but a few years ago that the staff in this store were just dreadful, but the new manager and crew are awesome!

friendly hardware store. I have popped in here a number of times especially during the holidays. They carry any hardware/​problem solving item you’ll need, plus, a lot of cool gadgets, toys, quirky holiday ornaments and fixtures.
I used them twice yesterday and they were able to help me immediately. Can we help you find something? as soon as I enter «YES!»
I feel like I am in Anytown, USA. The clerk was jovial and the staff seemed happy.
Prices seemed legit for a nice hardware store in the middle of Sellwood. I found Plumber’s Tape and a ratchet. I might not need this ratchet —- so I’ll if I can return it. But regardless, it’s a joy coming in here.

Absolutely top knotch staff who will take time to help find what you need. Always over deliver on customer service. Prices are decent. I’ll never step into another «big-​box» hardware store again. Keep it local!

Possibly the best hardware store I’ve been to. We’re finishing our garage and have been going to True Value daily. They have great service and will never let you down. If they don’t have something, they’ll gladly order it for you. A good local hardware store!

This is a fantastic little neighborhood hardware store. It’s small but I don’t find the selection to be overly limited. I have yet to pop in for something and been told they don’t have it. The seasonal merch is pretty awesome. Kiddie pools and pink flamingos in the summertime, plenty of fans for the inevitable rush following the first hot week in spring. In winter, there’s shovels and sidewalk salt and a plethora of holiday decorations. They’re doing it right here in terms of stocking appropriately.
Even better than the selection is the service. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful without being overbearing. Mighty Fine Bonus: the shop is dog friendly which means I can stop in while walking the dog without having to tie him to a pole out front. The counter staff have Milkbones on hand and always treat the dog when I’m checking out. That’s some stellar service.

These folks at this store are the best. So helpful, every single time.
I’ve been there in a couple of urgent situations (read: drunken sink-​breaking disaster, etc.) and also just to get keys made and whatnot, and it’s like they know what I need before I even walk in the door.
My last visit a few days ago, after being greeted immediately upon entry as always, I said: «The thingamabob by the wood piece by the closet broke.» Less than two seconds later, the nice man handed me the magic part to fix my little Narnia situation. $ 1.89. Done.
They also have a great selection of seasonal items — gardening right now, Christmas junk in December, Halloween stuff in fall. Definitely my first choice for any hardware need or general home goods.

Updated review: Three years later, the store is even better than it was when I wrote the last review. The only times I have ever NOT found what I needed is if it’s for some esoteric bit of hardware that I probably won’t find in any other general hardware outlet. The staff is more than just helpful: they can make appropriate suggestions as to the right parts or products for your job. Hats off, guys: you’re a real asset to the neighborhood.

I’ve been going to this hardware store since I was a kid and it still as wonderful now as it was when I was a child.
I went into the store today. Was greeted by Chris, store manager, who paitiently listened, explained and demonstrated even the easiest of things — all with a smile on his face and in no rush to go elsewhere.
This is how Moreland True Value is one of the BEST places to shop — and learn!

I love this store! They have everything I need for my relatively simple hardware needs without having to go to a ginormous Home Depot. The staff is friendly and knowledeable. Location is perfect for those of us in the Sellwood/​Moreland area.

I’m couch surfing this week and needed to get some keys duplicated. Believe me when I say, a lot of hardware stores no longer offer this service. I just happened upon this TV. Since they open at 7:00am (yippee!!!) I thought I’d see if they could make the keys for me. I had a bunch to be done. The gentleman that helped me was nice, friendly, and super speedy. Best of all, every one of the keys he made worked. I hate having to go back and have keys remade. Ugh!
I was on my way to work or I would have taken a some time to look around. But I could tell from my limited vantage point that they carry almost everything you might need.
It reminded me of the hardware store in the little town I grew up in… come to think of it, I think that was a True Value as well.

I drive across the river from John’s Landing to come to this store, not because the trip is convenient, but because the staff are courteous and quite knowledgable. Most recently, Chris assisted me with my purchase. He, like associates before him knew right were the product was, made recommendations that acknowledged both the proper tool/​supply for a job and items of value that would complete a one-​time task without me having to spending a fortune.
I’ve never been told, «Isle 2», and been left to scour the shelves for an item myself. You come here, and you pseudo-​describe an object and the associate says, «follow me!» They guide you to the right place, educate you about the options, and respect your end purchase-​decision. I never feel like someone is trying to up-​sell me.
My Mom works at an ACE franchise store and I love to tease her about my quality experiences at Westmorland True Value.
The professionalism of their staff will make me return to this store again and again.

Ohhh, Westmoreland True Value. You were so close to 5 stars. I love little hardware stores. They remind me of my youth, going to the hardware store with my dad to buy nails, fence posts, gardening supplies, or just whatever.
I like this little location, the old school merchandising, the guys in the aisles waiting to answer my questions. Every time I come here, someone immediately greets me and asks me if I need help finding something. I appreciate that, even if the store is tiny. I understand that cool little shops like this are being run out of town by Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart, and that’s a bummer.
I don’t even mind if guys are watching me walk around the store, because I’m not stealing anything, so it doesn’t bother me. As a long time retail store manager, I can tell you with 100% certainty that the people who take the biggest issue with being watched are the ones who steal. Otherwise, most people appreciate being checked on every now and then, because who knows hardware better than the dude who works in the hardware store? I don’t want to have to go looking for him.
Anyway, this place almost always has what I need. And yes, I may need help with light bulbs or plumbing fittings, so feel free to check in from time to time.
What I don’t particularly like is when you freak out as I am cutting my own piece of cord in the I back of the store, with the tools and the workstation you provide. I KNOW how to cut rope, as I explained to your staff as they had a meltdown when I measured and cut my own cordage; I’ve managed a marine hardware store for a dozen years; we specialize in cutting rope.
At the other end of the service chain are the POS (point of sale) girls, who are always super friendly and helpful, and they make me forget about the silly rope cutting key making guy in the back of the store.
Anyway, for the most part, I’m stoked this store is in the neighborhood. Just chill out a little bit, guys. No one is going to run away with the store’s rope, or hurt themselves with the scissors. Well, not me, anyway.

Received some of the best and most genuinely friendly customer service I’ve had in a long time here this evening.

Our go-​to place. Locally owned, close, excellent customer service, reasonable prices.

This store is totally awesome — the best staff in town. Hands down, the most helpful, knowledgable and friendly folks out there. I went in this morning 30 minutes before they opened, and they totally helped me find what I need. Awesome.

Edited to say: I really don’t appreciate being followed around a store (by weird accusing stares and by *literally* being followed as SOON as I walk in) as if I’m attempting to shoplift, and this is exactly what happened this weekend, down to the thug «security guy» in the aisle staring at my sweater sleeves as if I was stuffing things up them. WHAT THE HELL, GUYS?! Way to make good customers feel really, really crappy & unwelcome. What a disappointment. We’ll be taking our biz elsewhere from now on, thanks.

This is my go-​to place for birdseed and Christmas lights/​décor, etc. in the hood. They also have great deals on garden stuff and a good selection. Admittedly I’ve yet to check out the rest of the store but I’m guessing it’s also pretty damn fabulous. The people here are really friendly, down-​to-​earth, and I *just* found out you can check out their current sales/​deals online and reserve things this location might not have on hand to be *ordered* in for you! AWESOME! I got a gigantic bag (15lb) of wild birdseed for less that $ 5, ordered it online, walked in and picked it up less than a week later. I love this place! 5 stars!

Westmoreland True Value is wonderful! I love the instant customer service, always with a smile. Just like other businesses in Sellwood, Westmoreland True Value feels like a small town hardware store with a great selection of products (everything from lawn care to light bulbs to gardening and grill equipment). I’m glad that Westmoreland True Value is in our neighborhood! We love it!

It’s a local hardware store. not much else to say.
I do agree though that the staff can «jump on you» right away. but some would call that great customer service.
I’ve often just want to browse and look through the aisles for things I may have forgotten I needed.
The employees and wife of the owner are all super friendly. the owner. not so much.

Owning house means weekly, and occasionally twice daily, trips to the hardware store, oftentimes with only a vague idea of the supplies needed for a project. No fear though, the helpful guys at True Value seem to know how to get just about any job done and are happy to offer guidance. If you ask, that is. Occasionally it seems like they hold back the advice until you specifically ask for fear of offending you. That’s fine though, we’re not shy about asking.
For a tiny store they seem to have everything. Seriously, we’ve come here to find stuff we couldn’t at Lowe’s. Including service. At Lowe’s you’re lucky if you even see an employee, at True Value they’re almost seem overstaffed, definitely a plus. And the prices here are just as good most of the time… ok, the two times I noticed they were. And they have cool sales sometimes, like when D got a drill for cheap, along with a drill bit set for a penny. Not too shabby.
