Pet owners from Portsmouth, Newington, Kittery and all of the NH seacoast are welcome at Lafayette Animal Hospital. Seacoast pet owners have been coming to Lafayette for over 20 years for grooming, microchipping, surgery, check-​ups vaccinations, emergency care and nutritional counseling.

Dr. Shmidt also offers over 10 years of experience with state of the art technology such as the CO2 laser. This technology is used to minimize discomfort in your pet during spays, neuters and orthopedics.

Established in 1994.

Lafayette Animal Hospital opened its doors in 1994 to the Portsmouth and surrounding communities. We are happy to be able to continue to provide excellence in service and veterinary care.

Dr. Morton S.

Business Owner

I grew up in the seacoast of New Hampshire and graduated from Exeter High School in 1968, where I excelled in sports, was a member of the National Honor Society, and received The Harvard Book Award for being an outstanding student who «combines excellence in scholarship with achievements in other fields.» I graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1972, majoring in microbiology and minoring in animal science.

I married my high school sweetheart, Brenda, in 1973.

In 1974, I was accepted to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and moved to Columbus. In 1978, I received my DVM degree, cum laude, being a member of the Society of Phi Zeta, the Veterinary Honor Society.

I worked at a three– and a five-​doctor veterinary practice before starting Lafayette Animal Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1994.

I am a pet owner myself with two Boston terriers, Charlie and Gloria.
