History

Established in 1982.

Tulips was opened because a few friends had some great crafts and nowhere to display them. We began in 1982 over where Moe’s Subs is located now. What a tiny space! We migrated over to Market St in 1994 and held our own there until New Years Eve 2007. We are now in our third location looking out over the beautiful Piscataqua River on Bow St. The views here are spectacular.

Tulips is one of downtown Portsmouth, NH’s Last Great Originals. They’re a very small business with very big personality. They sell beautiful, unique handcrafted art objects, jewelry and gifts most if not all made locally. The people there are extra nice, even when its really busy. Which is often, because they’re wonderful. Such a nice break from the pop up shops that sell stuff made in China. I love this shop.

Tulips has moved to 62 Market St, about 2 blocks away from their old location. Things are still being set up but it’s a cute space and it’s looking good. As someone who hates to move, I have to congratulate the owner on getting everything together so fast!
I think this is the space that used to be «The Tub Shop» and this may be the only store on that block of Market St. that I haven’t been inside. If you’re looking for something crafty with a Portsmouth theme, the selection here is really good. Of course there’s a lot more than that inside, and you should check it out for yourself.

Found *the* perfect gift for my creative, quirky and wonderful mother-​in-​law at Tulip’s. They carry art, pottery, jewelry and will definitely be a gift must-​stop the next time we find ourselves in Portsmouth… which will hopefully be sooner than later.
