Best Western Plus The Inn & Suites At The Falls

I stayed at the Inn at the Falls the night before taking a Saturday cooking class at the Culinary Institute of America. The hotel is approximately 20 minutes from CIA, situated adjacent to a small waterfall on Wappinger Creek. I was able to open the windows and let the fresh air fill the room. The staff was attentive, the room was clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
After a restful night (and a spectacular cooking class), I rejoined others at the hotel to change my clothes before returning home. In class, we were asked to remove our rings and I had forgotten they were in my pants pocket. I realized they were missing when I arrived at home 2 hours later and immediately called the hotel. They dropped everything to retrace my steps, found the rings and arranged to have them shipped to me.
Staying at a hotel with a trustworthy staff is very important to me. The Inn at the Falls is now our #1 choice for Poughkeepsie accommodations.

Really average. Staff below average. Girl at the reception yawning in my face four times when I was checking in. She wrote the wrong room number on my key card. Ant to top it all off, fuckin room neighbors are loud drunks who don’t give a shit. Wannabe Eminem’s. Hotel management ain’t doing nothing about it,

Wife and I decide to spend St Valentines weekend at a hotel and I chose this one. Staff is very pleasant and accommodating. Look like they are doing a bit of a refresh since it looks like all of the carpets are brand new. Room was clean and well furnished. View of the stream was very nice. I wanted to rate it 2.5 and would have rated it higher if the overall interior condition was better. They have a ton of windows which is really nice except they were filthy and could hardly see out. There were cobwebs in the corners of the windows on the breakfast room. It was one of the coldest weekends this winter yet they didn’t have a fire in the fireplace during cocktail hour. The jacuzzi in the room looked a bit dated (looks like it was refinished but not very well) and took forever to fill. When it started circulating there was some kind of grit or sand spewing from the nozzles. Place has got a lot of potential. If the common areas were given some TLC and cleaning attention this would be a really beautiful hotel. Hopefully, they are doing a refresh. We’ll give a it a few months and try it out again.

the river (or maybe it’s a creek) running past my window is very nice and gives the room a feeling of privacy, which indeed it has — the closest windows with a line of sight to mine are across this waterway and up a hill. a person would need a pair of binoculars and an unhealthy interest in the activities of strangers to see into this room from pretty much anywhere around here. the surroundings have been quiet too (though the room itself has proven less so; read on). all of this is very nice.
cons have been: i arrived with my arms occupied by luggage, so pushed the handicapped-​door-​opening button with my knee… twice…and nothing happened. the front-​desk guy, while an extremely pleasant fellow, spoke so quietly that i couldn’t make out most of what he said while checking me in, and i was awakened at 8:15 by what seemed to be the building’s heating system — a loud knocking or tapping sound, like someone hitting the floor with a large wooden dowel, that started fast and regular and gradually slowed over the next 20 minutes or so, akin to the (much quieter) clicking of the heating systems in various places i’ve lived.
the free breakfast was a little primitive, too. nice enough, and i’m grateful for it, but i would have appreciated scrambled eggs and hot water i didn’t have to heat myself.
yeep…and just as i was writing this a next-​door neighbor flushed their toilet, the noise from which was surprisingly loud and protracted and bubbly… a quite unappealing little overture.
oh gosh… and now there’s an unpleasant smell in my room such as might well be coming from the aforementioned toilet… which just flushed again, so it probably is.
if you’re a Buddhist who wants to practice guarding the sense-​doors, this would be an excellent place to do it.

Fantastic stay at this Best Western! Great location, super view of the creak, friendly and helpful staff, glasses of Pinot Grio for free that brought us and other guest together for a heartfelt communication. When we mention we had some issues with the air conditioning unit, they had the handy man come in in less that 15mins and he changed it in less than 5 mins., in a word #this is how you do it!

I am taking the time to write this review b’cos the hotel has real potentials in the layout of the building and it’s location but needs serious improvements.
Check-​in-​the night of the 27^th we checked in very late around 10pm. The girl at the counter was sitting on a high stool and did not even greet us. After I told her what we wanted it she flung back my credit card and ID which the ID ended up on the floor. She did not ask us whether we needed help with our luggages.
Room-​we walked in and could not turn the light on. After couple of min. we figured out the bulb was burned out. After turning on the other lights, we found a note from the maid basically reminding us to leave her a tip. Size was good, beds were good but no blanket on the bed, just a polyester cover with two sheets with 2ndary blanket sandwiched in between. The thermostat on the a/​c wasn’t working so we either had to leave it on very cold or let the room get slightly hot which isn’t good when you are sleeping.
Cleanliness-​unacceptable as toilet was not properly cleaned. Also kept finding hair on the floor which is creepy since you start wondering if the carpet in the main area is clean or not. The shower tiles had mold/​scum in the grout and tub has black smudges. Overall I did not really want to touch anything. If I had to touch it, I had to clean it with a Kleenex.
Breakfast-​good assortment offered but again not very clean. Tables were dirty and seats had stains on them.
Dining room was very pleasant over looking a creek and had outdoor seating but just wish it had a cleaner feel to it.
I would not stay there again if in the area as cleanliness is very high on the list when staying at a hotel.

2.5 stars if I could.
Granted, I’m a bit spoiled when it comes to hotel amenities and accomedations.
The exterior of this hotel is really nice and it looks well kept. Even at checking in, the hotel looks really up to date.
However, there was a few things I noticed that quickly took points off of this hotel.
1) I noticed small marks on the wall as well as chipped paint on the ceiling.
2) lampshades looks like it hasn’t been dusted in a while
3) While I can open the windows, the mesh nets to keep any unwanted bugs are worn, torn, and falling off.
3) The creek view. I get that it’s not the hotel’s job to do upkeep for the creek, but since it’s supposed to be a selling point, I was hoping the creek looked a little better and less noticable trash…
4) IT IS DARK. the rooms didn’t feel bright, even with the lights on. It felt dingy and a bit sad looking. Normally, after a long day, I’d like to be in a hotel room that I want to go back to. This one, didn’t fit the bill.
5) Biggest offender of all. The private jacuzzi in my room was dirty, it looked extremely dated, and my girlfriend and I couldn’t even use it because even with the stopper firmly placed down, the jacuzzi couldn’t hold any water.
At check out, I asked the hotel person about the situation and I was lucky enough to have given a partial refund. The room I stayed in was 115.

I had no idea what to expect on my first visit to Poughkeepsie, but I was delighted to find this hotel nestled into the beautiful scenery right by the water. I wasn’t so happy to realize that on one of the hottest days of the year, the air conditioning wasn’t working. Fortunately, the room air conditioners were working, but the rest of the place was stifling.
The hotel itself is pretty nice, though it felt a bit dated. My room was massive, which was nice. The bathroom is massive, but I found the sink a bit awkward (I was basically too short for it!), and the shower didn’t have the best pressure. The bed was super comfortable, but didn’t have a comforter or duvet, which was a bit odd, and the pillow were really small.
Breakfast was very basic — cereal, some fruit and bagels and pastries. The pastries were delicious, I must admit!
The only reason I’m giving this place four stars instead of three is the beautiful setting. True, it’s not especially convenient if you want to walk anywhere, but it’s lovely if you’re looking for a picturesque view. There seemed to be a lot of people celebrating anniversary or special events here, which I thought was nice. It seems like a lovely area for hiking!

I booked a few nights here in May for business and really enjoyed it. The front desk was excellent, engaged in conversations, offered help, etc. My room faced a river which was very nice. Rooms were clean, warm, the common area was actually really nice and airy.
Def. recommend it.

Well either I don’t know what’s up with Best Western or this is not actually one. By that I simply mean that this place is great. Quiet, clean, beautiful location but central (if you need to be in the Poughkeepsie/​fishkill area). Staff is friendly and cheerful. Rooms are spacious. Most have nice views of wappingers creek. The great room looks over the falls at red oaks mill, there is a stone terrace on nice days you can sit out and read. Evenings there is a happy hour with a few selections of drinks for free. It’s a nice place to relax at any time. The breakfast is complimentary and is simple but better than most, includes decent coffee selection, waffles from batter, some breads and cereals, and a few microwaveable packaged breakfast things. And during the day the great room is bright with many windows.
For the price I don’t think I’ve ever seen better.
If I could change anything I’d light a fire in the fireplace on cold Tuesday evenings… WHICH THEY NOW DO! So OK, if I could change anything I’d give free Porsches to all guests.
My impression of best westerns is a chain of cheap motels that dot interstates and cater to truckers. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but this ain’t such a place. It’s not really a five-​star hotel, of course, this is an old inn that was bought up by a major hotel chain but they seem to have kept it nice. I will return (and I’ve returned many times).

Comfortable, clean, comfy, and complimentary breakfast was an upgraded version… Jimmy dean breakfast sandwiches, fresh squeezed orange juice. I was very pleased with the customer service.

Disappointing. Did not feel welcome here at all. Almost got turned away when we showed up with our dog (they are billed as dog-​friendly). Interesting – they only have two rooms where dogs are permitted? I wouldn’t call that dog friendly! Room was not serviced during the day. Was glad to leave.

This is a true hidden gem!
What a nice, quiet and comfortable hotel. I used to stay at the Holiday Inn Express but have been staying here for the last month or so and it’s much better.
First of all — the rooms are always nice and clean, there is usually no funk or funky smells.
My favorite part is the river behind the hotel, so be sure to ask for a river view room. There is a great patio in the back overlooking the river with chairs and lounge chairs and tables — great place to meet with your team after work.
The staff is always friendly and very accommodating. There’s a gym on the second floor with some decent workout equipment, also very clean.

Exceeded my expectations given the reasonable price. I’m now a fan.
The hotel is clean and well maintained. They picked up my reservation when another place in the area ended up overbooked (Clarion), gave me a suite upgrade and were fantastic about helping me out of a less-​than-​ideal situation.
About 20 minutes from the Culinary Institute of America which I was visiting for a week long class.
The staff have been super nice. Newspapers in the lobby for pick up. Continental breakfast is very basic.
I’d stay here again.

Pretty location, nice building from the outside. The inside is also nice, in that chain motel sort of way.
The rooms seemed very fresh and new still. We had a bit of an issue with finding a room that had been cleaned when we checked in (late at night), but in the end everything worked out just fine.
The room we ended up in was clean and sufficient. We had a suite (upgrade!) which had a fridge, microwave, dinner area and living room area in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. Sadly, the handle kept falling off the shower, but it stuck right back on.
I would stay here again.

I think you can toss any review older than Joyce K’s review below — it’s a different place now.
It’s now part of the Best Western Plus chain and has received a solid freshening. (I believe the funny smell noted in Joyce’s review is actually new carpeting, not new paint.)
First, what they need to work on… fit and finish. Common areas need more aggressive cleaning. Attend to details — if the coffee runs out in the breakfast area, make more. Make sure there’s a remote control in the room for the television… details, details.
What you do get is basically a solid three-​star, recently renovated room at a decent price. Beds were comfortable, rooms were smallish, but far from cramped.
The bathrooms were fine — the tubs have not been renovated and showed their age. Time to look into swapping those out as well.
The rooms were clean, but there is room for improvement there. Again, details.
The staff was pleasant and accommodating.
All in all, a solid place to stay. We’re local and had no reason to stay before every tree in the county decided to take out the utility wires during this weekend’s freak snow storm. If we ever had company visiting, I would not hesitate to point them towards the Inn.
But…work on the details.
