Blue Collar Brewery

Great ambiance, because it really keeps the history of the place and the area. When I went the first time, we had to wait quite a while to be served, to get out food. It was brand new, though. Food was good Prices were reasonable. Beers were great. Second time the table was a little bit uncomfortable in a weird corner but was fine. Again food was so good and I got wine that time (I know, at a brewery, what’s wrong with me?).

Best brewed stouts, IPAs, and cream ales in the area! Food is best described as great pub grub! My favorite for a casual meal, watching sports, and great brews!

Excellent it’s not in the best part of town but the building the beer the food the ambience everything was to my liking. The beer I found to be very good I, had the IPA and I wish I could remember how it tasted I will be back before I go.

Great burgers! Ordered a flight and enjoyed the cream ale. Atmosphere was great. Love when I can see the chef at work. Servers were attentive.

Blue Collar is a pretty upscale brewpub considering the name. Still, it does have an atmosphere of hard work and gumption which translates to the beer. The building itself it huge though the lot is pretty small, but the bar area and table room isn’t that big. A lot of room is taken up by the long kitchen and the lower level fermentation tanks, which you can walk over on a catwalk that feels vaguely Star Wars like. The beer is pretty good, with a strong dunkelweizen offering and several hoppier beers. Service was pretty good and very friendly, though didn’t check up that often. The several tvs above the bar made it a nice place for watching games too.

Great pub atmosphere with interesting craft brews. The menu is somewhat limited but features some excellent chow. It may be more conducive to snacks with friends while watching a game than a sit down meal, but we really enjoyed our time at the Blue Collar.
One minor note: consider lowering the TVs. They work for the upstairs crowd but are too high to watch comfortably from the lower floor.

I am rating this place a 4, because I’m not sure if I’d go back. It was very good, but not great. Might try the other places in the area before circling back around to this one.
Good vibe. Old converted factory, now housing this brewery/​restaurant. They brew their own beer, which was really good. The waitress was excellent — upbeat, not pushy, genuinely nice, and guided our meal really well. The food was OK, maybe a 6 out of 10, perhaps a 7. It was good, but nothing great.
Still, the place was pretty cool, and I advise you all to give it a shot. It’s not too far from The Chance, so if heading to a show there, definitely make a stop.

Even though I work a white collar desk job I was let into Blue Collar Brewery. It must be because my dad is part of the blue collar workforce. He doesn’t think I have a real job because my hands don’t have callouses. It’s been a real divide in the family and I really don’t want another shouting match at Thanksgiving.
With that being said the atmosphere is great… food smelled delicious and there is a cool balcony overlooking where the beer is brewed. If I was Randy Orton I would totally RKO someone into some beer, but I’m not… I’m just «some desk jockey sitting on my rear end all day». Thanks Dad.
Can’t wait to get back here for dinner. Definitely a new gem in Poughkeepsie.

Blue Collar is a relatively new Brewery that has done a fantastic job of incorporating old and new with their building. Located within an old factory type facility, they have maintained the old charm of exposed brick interior while modernizing it as well. I wasn’t sure what to expect when walking in, but the first impression was absolutely positive.
A group of us sat in the main bar section. Plenty of tables available for groups, and if you’re into just sitting directly at the bar, you have that option as well. So onto what matters most, the beers. After trying the ESB and Cream Ale, my positive impression continued. The beers were fantastic and I’m itching to try the rest (wasn’t in a flight mood this evening). The cream ale was bit on the lighter side, but went well with the wings I was eating at the time. The ESB was advertised as a more «bitter» beer, but I didn’t get that impression from trying it.
The food menu has several sandwich and fried options. This particular night was $ 1.50 beef Taco night, so that took precedence over the other items. I ended up eating 5 (what? I’m a growing boy!) And found them to be just ok. I don’t think you can expect a whole lot out of $ 1.50 tacos, but they were filling, and grew increasingly more tasty with each beer (and with the addition of hot sauce). I’ll definitely have to return to try the other menu items. Also, there was a vegetarian sandwich option for those curious.
There’s a small parking lot across the street and plenty of street parking available. Its not the worst neighborhood in Poughkeepsie, but certainly not the best either. The staff was overwhelmingly friendly and our waitress was spot on. Never had to turn my head more than once to find her.
So far, I’m a fan of this place and will definitely make a return trip

For me, my overall impression of Blue Collar Brewery is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I liked the beers (especially the ESB and their Smoked Brown Porter) though they aren’t necessarily my favorite beers in the area (hey, gotta shop around). I didn’t get to sample much off the menu my first time here, because I was taking advantages of their happy hour wings and their Monday night taco special. I enjoy the setting and the ambiance. Our waitress really took care of us too.
My moment came at one point while I was snacking on one of the wings (I can’t remember if it was a Buffalo wing or a Thai chili) followed immediately by a sip of ESB. It was one of those moments when the food and the beer paired perfectly… and that was just with the apps. I have to believe (or hope) that the same will happen here when I can return and order heartier meals.
For all their goodness — when you get your bill, ITEMIZE IT. For some bizarre reason, if you order something for which there are multiple sizes/​options, the information on your receipt may not correlate. The most recent time I was here, the itemized listing of our orders did not come up with the same total as the food and drink totals at the bottom. This was because while I ordered a large salad, it rings up as small under itemization but is correctly totaled at the bottom.
I’m not sure if others consider their location — off the main drag — to be an asset or a liability. For me, it works.

Came out to meet up with some Unilocaler friends. I had the Porter, which was nice. Hubs had one too and also a ESP, which he liked much better. Beer prices are reasonable.
Food was another story. Don’t care for the selection here. Very meat centric and fried foods.
Table ordered wings since they are on special before 6 and they were good. Buffalo and Thai — both were HOT!
Others ordered the ground beef tacos for $ 1.50. Reports were they were ok.
Hubs and I shared pretzel bites that were pretty awful. Pretzel dough was tough, some undercooked and some started to get hard after a few minutes. Cheddar ale sauce seemed to have too much flour in it.
Overall a nice spot for a quick beer or typical bar food, but not for quality food or for those who want lighter, healthier options. Service was good and friendly.

Since it is a brewery I felt inclined to write about the beer, but I won’t, since I don’t know anything about the beer besides the fact that I liked it. (I had the IPA #4 and #5.)
The wings, however, I can write about. This was the second time I frequented BCB — first time since early Summer — and as I did the first time, I ordered the Tai chili and chipotle bbq wings (18 in total, 9 of each). I am admittedly no food critic, but these are the best wings I’ve ever had in my entire life. A simple man, all I ask for are wings which combine a crispy outer skin with enough meat to be close to full after consuming 12 – 15. As straightforward as that sounds, I’ve yet to eat a wing which can stake claim to both those criteria. I’ve been to the «best of the best» wing joints in NYC, Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco, and Australia but until now, in my opinion, all have seen their hype exceed the actual product. Blue Collar Brewery, in little olé Poughkeepsie, NY, takes the cake. Job, well done.
I will be back, often.

Blue Collar is a beautiful brewery that opened up about a year ago in a century old factory building. It feels much more like a sports bar than a brewery except for the fact that there are a bunch of stainless brew tanks on a lower level by the open kitchen and the only beers on tap are their own. They have a full menu of delicious sounding pub fare a ton of flat screens around the place and a second floor seating area. I’m really surprised they didn’t have a pool table or at least a dart board as the space would have been perfect for it. They only have 5 beer options and at least three of them are in constant rotation so if you like always trying new beers this place is a great place for it but if you fall in love with one of their beers that isn’t their Cream Ale then you might be out of luck getting it in the future. They don’t have bottles but do growlers. I didn’t see anything in terms of merch or a tour but the place is pretty straight forward and didn’t really need either. I normally steer clear of any beers with the name «cream» in it because it makes me think it will taste like the watered down crap beer that is Genesse Cream Ale but the one here was a tasty light beer with a good amount of flavor. I wasn’t blown away by any of the beers but appreciated the unique flavors and that the brewmaster here likes to experiment and try new things and keeps everything fresh. I wouldn’t hesitate coming back when I’m in the area to try some of their food and to see if they have something new on tap to try out.

This place is very accommodating food was delicious especially the Nachos with pulled pork, our waitress was very pleasant this was our second time there and she remembered us, which my girl friend and I thought was very commendable. The fact that there were screens broadcasting sporting events we thought was very cool.
Overall we absolutely enjoyed the atmosphere and will definitely be back.

This Brewery has it all. Old factory, many TVs, upper and lower seating, great food and the beer is the best around. Location is different than most but kudos to the owner for embracing the city.

Not only was the food great but the service was excellent! This is an awesome atmosphere with fair prices. We will be frequenting this brewery for sure, a great addition to Dutchess County! Highly recommended for any beer fans or anyone looking for a good meal & drinks :)

I always like to see when new businesses can repurpose an existing building, rather than tear down a building just to build another, but with lower quality materials and less character. Thus, I was intrigued by the interior of Blue Collar Brewery, and think they kept a good amount of the warehouse/​factory charm of the building. However, upon entering, I found the layout to be a little strange, but likely necessitated by the desire to have the opening in the floor which allows patrons to view the brewery equipment in the basement below the dining area. You enter into a small empty area (as in, no furniture. I imagine that this area could serve as an «overflow area for people to hang around in with a pint in hand if the bar/​dining area were full) with a balcony on the left that overlooks the brew equipment on the floor below and a prep station/​open kitchen on your right. The bathrooms are right by the front door and the dining room is at the back of the building, so you do need to walk from one side of the building to the other to use them.
There is no clear hostess/​host stand, so we ended up asking the guys who were prepping food and they pointed us further down the road until we reached the dining room. I thought the open layout, brick walls, and high ceilings were nice and definitely kept true to the warehouse feeling. A group of televisions showing sporting events line the brick walls behind the bar. However, I did find the dining room to feel really dark and somewhat dreary. There are small windows toward the ceiling, but the interior could use some more substantial lighting — it was especially noticable as we were there in the middle of the day.
On a Saturday for lunch shortly after it opened, there were a few tables and about four patrons at the bar. We were served at the bar by the bartender. We split an order of blue collar wings (medium) for $ 9 and pub fries ($ 4). The fries are «served» with malt vinegar (a bottle of Heinz brand malt vinegar). They were average, but lacked the crisp I had hoped for — they could have used an extra minute in the fryer. I also think they were frozen. The wings were not as crispy as I’d like, but they were meatier than most others I’ve had in the area (excepting maybe Union) and had good heat. They were served with bleu cheese (does not appear house made) and a few celery sticks. I asked if they had any carrots (as I enjoy both carrots and celery with my wings), but our bartender said they didn’t have any in the kitchen.
There were five beer options on tap. I found it a little bit odd that Blue Collar did not offer a flight of beer, being that it’s something I usually try when I go to a new brewery. Our bartender did not explain the reason why they did not offer a flight, and I assumed it was maybe something they planned on offering down the road, as they had just recently opened. However, upon skimming the website, it is Blue Collar’s philiosphy that «a proper tasting cannot be conducted with less than a full pint of beer.» Not sure I agree with that, but they did allow me to sample a couple of the choices, so when I did settle on the Light Cream Ale, I knew it was something I’d want to drink a whole pint of.
Blue Collar, like its namesake, is no frills, and I am fine with that. There was nothing about the food, beer, or service that was too memorable, but also nothing negative about my experience. It’s a solid B+, satisfactory, a good watering hole for locals. Although I am not necessarily rushing go back to Blue Collar for wings or beer, it is nice to see some growth in Poughkeepsie, and I am sure I’ll find myself at the bar again at some point. I’d be excited to see one or two more options on tap when I return!

New brewery and food stop in Poughkeepsie. This place is awesome, we stopped in for a few pints and were very happy with the wait staff, Aleah was awesome.
The smoked brown porter is delicious and smooth, the cream ale was also tasty, I’m not a huge ups fan and found it to be a bit to hoppy…
We just ordered some pulled pork nachos and fries for food, could have been a bit more pork and a bit less soubut overall the food and experience was great!

Came here after seeing it opened on November 9^th, just to give it a try. Although it’s in the middle of downtown Poughkeepsie, this place stands out, and is warm and inviting. The brick architecture, mixed with Edison bulbs and iron, give Blue Collar Brewing a trendy, Gastropub feel, without pretension.
The beer selection is limited to four options at the moment, which may attractive or dissuading, depending on your craft beer pub expectations. There are also wines available, all from LOCAL vineyards. I tried the IPA (awesome), the Smoked Brown Porter (light and bold at the same time), and the Cream Ale (goes down smooth with a light balance of hops). As expected during an opening week, the service was good, but kitchen was a little slow. The food is pub fare, served in baskets, and is tasty. We tried the Steak Sandwich (like a cheese streak) and the Fish and Chips (one of the best — not greasy) and were very satisfied! The menu is broken into «shifts» — first, second third… — depending on how much food you’d like. This plays into their theme very well. As soon as they hire an executive chef, this place will surely be a great spot for any occasion.
After walking down the hallway entrance, you’ll pass by the Brew tanks on your left, and the open kitchen on your right. There’s a 15 person bar against the back wall, as well as tables and an upstairs. All seats have great views of the 8 TVs, and there’s plenty of standing room in the event all seats are taken. The bar also has growlers for filling.
Before you go, check out their website. Blue Collar Brewing explains their business model, which hopes to incorporate the history of Poughkeepsie, and service anyone who just wants to sit down and have a good beer. They’ve taken the time to upgrade this building, beautifully, and have preserved the atmosphere of the working factory it used to be.
Prior to going, I knew exactly what to expect in terms of their goals for the business. They hit the mark. If you want a chill place to watch a game, or meet friends, or grab a bite, or do happy hour, this is the place. I’ve been to Mill House and Shatzi’s many times, and love them both. However, this place is unique and won’t disappoint. I actually prefer fewer selections of beer, knowing that the Brewmasters have taken the time to pick out only the best flagship beers to serve. Don’t hesitate, stop on through!
