$ 5 fee for deposit just crazy. Picked up a keg for a picnic and they asked for a deposit no problem figured as much $ 80 deposit over $ 200 for keg still no problem. The next day returned keg and tap only got back $ 75 ($ 5 swiping fee) in other words let me just rip you off.
Good selection prices are higher than most others, just not worth the customer ripoff.

The largest selection of beer I’ve ever seen. Very clean, well organized. They have a selection of refrigerated and non– refrigerated, they have about 6 beers on tap that rotate often and even equipment for make your own home brewers.
And I love that you can just create your own six packs of one different beer at a time!

I have been meaning to write a review for Half Time since Christmas but kept forgetting to. My trip in today reminded me. Every time I’ve been in they have an awesome selection of beers. I’ve never had any problems finding a beer I wanted. They always have pretty friendly clerks which may surprise you being its all young guys. What really impresses me about this place is there customer service. Around Christmas time we wanted to buy a nicer bottle of beer as a gift and make a label to put on the bottle. We figured since they sell everything to brew your own beer that they may have a label we could purchase. When we asked the clerk (who ended up being the owner) he went into his office and made us a perfect label. I know that seems silly but that little bit of effort goes a long way and we were even more impressed with the store

This is one GREAT BIG BEER STORE !!! They are great and have soooooo many beers to choose from. They really have the biggest and best selection and they have great customer service as well. If you do not see it just ask. They will try everything to see if they can get it for you.
If you are looking for something hard to find they should have it. Go see for yourself.
You will not be disappointed at all.
You can even have them make you a beer basket with your selection of beers. You pick them and they wrap it up !!!

I used to love this place, but not anymore. They used to have online ordering, but not anymore, It was convenient living out of state and being able to make a gift purchase online and have the recipient pick it up.
I live in the south, and visit the area twice a year, last visit was July 2015 before they installed new shelves throughout the store. Since then, the prices have skyrocketed. Ommegang beer from NY was pretty scarce on the shelves, and the prices are higher than at the Oasis in Hopewell, or I can even get it cheaper in the southern parts of the U.S. a 750ml bottle of Duvel was $ 5 more than another store in the area.
Even the selection has gone down so they could add other breweries. When some of the most popular craft breweries in the U.S. have reduced selections so they can add something else is sad. A lot of the nice New York and other Northeastern craft beers have much less of a presence than prior to expanding shelf capacities.
It used to be that I would spend a few hundred dollars at half time while in the area, and then load my trunk up with $ 500-​$ 600 worth to bring back on my trip south, but not this time. I spent about $ 25 the first visit, and $ 100 before leaving; but that was only because I was gifted a $ 100 halftime gift card for xmas.
The final kicker is that when I posted my unpleasant experience with the store on their facebook page, they deleted my review instead of actually addressing my concerns. So much for freedom of speech I helped ensure with my time in the military and numerous out of country and overseas deployments.

Holy cow the beer is overpriced! Go anywhere else and you’ll find it 20 to 30% cheaper. But I suppose the selection is a kind of impressive, but certainly not unheard of!
Their selection of things that you can fill a growler with is pretty good, but even that way is expensive!
And their cigar selection while nice can’t hold a candle to the smoke shop just up the road.

Love this place! You can find almost anything here. The best part is that you can buy anything as a single, and make your own 6-​pack! They have an excellent selection of seasonal beers, and all kinds of great pumpkin beers. We plan to visit every time we are in the area.

Given that I always try to have at least a few beers hanging out in the fridge, Half Time is seriously one of my favorite places in the area. The whole store is lined with aisle after aisle of beers, all categorized (German, Belgian, Wheat, Stouts, etc.) and tidy — that’s another one of this place’s perks. In a space that holds so much selection, there’s a fine line between complete product chaos and order. Luckily for the beer drinkers of Poughkeepsie, it’s impossible not to find what you’re looking for because the store’s staff keeps all their beers where they belong.
While I’m sure plenty of customers come here to stock up on cases of their favorite beers and growlers and such, I usually only go here to mix and match with their «make your own six pack» option. The first time I went to Half Time, it took me a minute to realize that I could do this, but once I did, I spent the better part of the next hour combing through the aisles, because the goal is usually to walk out with six new/​different beers.
For the hobbyists, Half Time has another section of the store devoted to home brewing. As I know nothing about the subject, I can’t really speak on how broad their selection is, but it seems large enough from the times I’ve just casually checked it out.
Since I never just «run into Half Time real quick,» I almost consider it something to do for fun on a Saturday afternoon, because the sheer amount of beer in the store will keep you walking through the aisles, usually three or four times before you build that perfect six pack.

The best selection of beers, huge freezers and lots of draft options. It’s a shame the staff is rude and unhelpful or else they’d get 5 stars.

Great selection of beer… It’s a little pricey compared to some of the other local places though… Keg room is hit or miss, at least for 1/6’s… Great place overall

If there’s a particular beer you’re looking for, chances are you’ll find it at half time. This place has just about the largest selection of brews you’ll find anywhere. From domestic micro brews across the country to nations far and wide (especially Germany, Belgium and England). Not sure what to get? No worries, grab an empty 6 pack container and customize your own (or multiple 6 packs if you’re feeling ambitious). You can even grab some growlers to go from their tap station.
For those into home brewing, you’ll find some essential equipment and other supplies (hops, etc) here as well. They also have some glassware (pint glasses) if you’re looking to stock your shelf. Soda drinkers can also check out their selection (micro soda makers?) Of cream sodas, black cherry, etc. I personally love the Saranac Black Cherry Cream

awesome beer selection, growler refills, and super friendly staff! I had been here in the fall and brought my growler that had a broken top to see if they could help. I had not only one of the staff members help me, but 3! after a few minutes of browsing the beer selections I had a perfectly fixed and usable growler thanks to the great employees :)

If you love beer then you have to stop by this place. They have everything you need to make your own beer at home or if you’re just too lazy for that feel free to try out many of their hundreds and hundreds of different beers around the world and locally microbrewed. Every time I come here I feel like s kid in a candy store LOL If you want only one bottle you can pull it from the six pack no problem. If you enjoy a good smoke they have a nice selection of cigars. If you’re interested in attending a homebrewing class you can check out the website I haven’t been to one yet but I’m planning on it. Every time I’m in the neighborhood this is a must stop.

They have a very wide selection of beers here. In addition to the big selection of American Craft Beers, they have a great selection of foreign beers, as well as run of the mill domestic beers too.
They have a growler filling station, and sell various sizes of growlers.

Let me first off start out by saying that I had been a loyal Half Time store customer and that I had never had a bad experience before. That is why they are getting 2 stars instead of one. This review is more towards their customer service and beer of the month club that I joined. I had received 3 months of the Stouts and Porters Beer of the Month club from 2 people so in total 6 months that each alternated, from January until June I received the beers. Well that is what I was told. Just like Chad D, I had poor customer service. I dealt with one person in the online department and after asking that a manager was aware at the many issues, I was told that all my issues would be taken care. I also was not going to write this review because I wrote a review on Half Time’s site but it was never published so I write where I know it will be published. I also did contact the store multiple times and spoke with management once so its not like I am hiding behind a review. Also I will let you know that this was not my first beer club that I had been part of so I knew what would happen with delayed shipments and all the times I ordered other months it was in the Winter.
My first month was January and by the 15^th of the month my mother in law did not receive a shipping notice. I emailed them to find out what was going on and the response was they were having issues with the cold (this was during the coldest month of the year so to an extent I understood.) By the week after still no shipping notice, so I emailed again, and was assured I would have it. On January 29^th I received my first shipment. I even arranged to take off work to make sure that I would get it.
Give them another chance, I said it was their first month, it would not happen again right… February came and I was assured that I would have my beers by mid month, but guess what mid month came, still not a shipping label created or communication from the company. Time to email again and call. After multiple phone calls and emails, I finally got a shipping notice and the beer was delivered on February 27^th.
March came two days later, don’t worry we had issues with the shipping company and with the cold being gone we should not have an issue. Long story short did not get my beer until the last week of the month again. April and May same issues end of the month. At the end of May I finally requested to speak with a manager and when they got on the phone with me, they had no clue of the situation. I have been in retail management for over 10 years and if there were customers that had consistent issues, every member of the leadership team knew them and to take care immediately. This manager had no clue who I was, the situation that I had been in for the previous 4 months and nor did he seem to care. He offered to cancel my orders and refund me the money. Great thats exactly what I wanted (Sarcasm.) June came and I got my beer and July they comped me a month so I got that without problem. Also with each shipment there was supposed to be a paper that explained the beers and the last few did not have the descriptions. In that time I also received a damaged case of beer which they quickly blamed UPS for. They rectified that however and sent another case.
The other part of the club that made me unsatisfied was that I had received a lot of doubles. I know stouts and porters are somewhat unique, however if I wanted to get doubles I would have went to the store and bought them myself. Now I was stuck with beer that I was not that happy with and multiples of them. I was hoping that they would have fixed their issues by now but it seems that from other reviews it has not been fixed.
I will still come to the store because the selection is great for Dutchess County however until I have to go there I will go somewhere else.

Half Time continues to be the best source not only for brews of every shape, size and every other adjective one can think of but now they are selling accoutrements for home brewing. I will leave that to the more adventurous since I have thousands of the pro’s examples to rely on.
When I go to Half Time I like to have a theme going for my selections. Once it was finding a couple dozen different IPAs for my husband, one for each day I would be in India. ;))) Another time it was Oatmeal Stouts, another time beers with fishy names and still another time beers with blue labels. These exercises are a fun way to try new things. The variety there is amazing and such things are relatively fun and not very challenging. Except today when I went to get 17 different Irish beers. I was a bit disappointed. And came up very short. I will forgive them that. Maybe every one in Ireland just drinks Guinness?;))) I know I did when I was there.
A couple of times there have been discrepancies on my receipt so I suggest paying attention and checking just in case. I am sure these are just oversights but still… I cannot imagine buying untested beers without having experienced their mix and match system first. Nothing worse than committing to a beer and not loving it. ;)))

Ugh I am beyond frustrated by this point, and felt like a good rant on Unilocal was needed.
I’ve been on the hunt for Kopparberg cider for months now and when I found that Half Time had it in stock and was able to ship it to Washington State I was beyond thrilled.
I placed my order on December 7^th, my card was charged and in the email it said I’d receive a tracking order once my order had been sent out. I waited, and no email or tracking number arrived. So I waited, I figured it was the holiday season, it is busy no big deal.
By December 23^rd I’m getting a bit worried so I email them, only to find out that my order was sent out, then returned to the warehouse due to the package being damaged. Frustrating, yes, but they promised me it would be sent out again on December 26^th and would arrive by January 3^rd.
Well January 3^rd was yesterday and no sign of my order, and yet again no tracking number. So I have emailed yet again to see what is up in regards to my order. The first time around they responded very quickly, and this time I’m still waiting.
Since I go to school on the east coast of Canada (where they cannot ship it to me) I am a bit ticked off that I have been home now for a month and my order is still nowhere to be found.
If they get back to me telling me my order was damaged again or wasn’t sent out, then I’m pulling the plug, I’m not going through this again.
I’m sure their actual store is great but their online store is horrible, and if you can find what you are looking for anywhere else, I’d highly suggest you do that instead.

First, I’ll admit that I’m not a beer drinker. Recent health concerns forced me to give it up. I do miss it tho! I really miss being able to order a hefe weizen when out with friends, stuff’s the nectar of the gods!
My complaint with this place is that I was once trying to return bottles there after seeing that it was a service they offered and even have signs on their storefront saying so.
I’m not going to describe the entire incident but suffice it to say that the person whom I talked to turned out to be the manager/​owner of the place & he was quite dismissive and rude. So I packed up my bottles & left.
When I sent them an email about the incident, I got a reply from the very same person essentially trying to explain his attitude in terms of being a retail manager — basically in a language that I didn’t understand and also telling me that bottle return there is not a viable business service because it costs him too much money. Basically, he was as rude & dismissive as he was in person. And for some reason he kept asking me about my occupation, which I told him was not his business & didn’t bear on our exchange.
So, if you’re looking for a good beer, go here! I have friends who love the place & I don’t blame them for going there.

What a great addition to Poughkeepsie. The beer selection is endless and the store is always bright and clean (although sometimes a little too bright when the afternoon sun beams straight into the windows!) :)
You sort of have to be looking for it as you drive along Rt 9 because the turn-​off is a bit short (no real on/​off ramp like you’d see for the Galleria or other malls). It’s also located right next to a wine shop — so it’s a great little mini-​strip-​mall.
Having spent a significant amount of time living and working in Europe, I always love finding beers that bring back good memories. Haven’t done any major orders, so can’t review that, but have interacted with the staff and they are friendly and helpful. They are happy to recommend something if you are new to the beer-​world, or simply just tell you their favorites. Great spot.

By far the best beer store in terms of selection that I’ve found upstate. On the east side of Route 9, it’s located north of the Poughkeepsie Galleria and south of downtown. The store is huge, with a full aisle of American Microbrews, an aisle of Belgian and Germans, an aisle of English and miscellaneous foreign beers, an aisle with macro beers along with Canadian beers and Sam Adams, a glasswear section, some high end stuff by the register, and finally coolers surrounding the whole back of the store with most of the stock chilled there. It’s pretty damned epic. As for the service, I found workers to be friendly and somewhat knowledgeable. Seeing the layout of the place and what they were doing in terms of stocking, I could definitely imagine them getting cranky though.
Half Time’s prices are at their best for ⁴⁄₆ packs of stuff that’s either readily available or seasonally released. For instance, $ 2.50 a bottle for Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is pretty damned stellar. Prices on bombers are also very good. There’s also a counter in the front of the store with discounted beer that they’re looking to be rid of. For more rare stuff that’s hard to come by – think Aventinus Eisbock and Ayinger Celebrator – they’re mostly par for the course with a few maybe approaching gouging territory. But considering that you can buy everything in one place while still saving a significant amount of money on average, it’s all reasonable. Half Time is one more reason for me to visit Poughkeepsie more often.
