Business Owner

Ricky and Shelly met at a food service warehouse in Brewster, NY where they helped get a cash and carry store on the map. After deciding to venture out on the other side of the food business, they went to work at two separate specialty italian delis before opening up Shelly’s Deli in Poughkeepsie, NY. Customer service and quality product are their main concerns in operating the establishment.

Where can you get great food from great staff at a great price? Here! Where can you grab a sandwich or home made special, even when your traveling with a gluten-​free companion? Here!
The first thing that you notice when you walk into Shelly’s is that it’s super clean and neat. No crumbs on the table, no spilled sugar on the coffee bar.
The next thing you notice is the staff. They’re friendly and respectful to regulars and strangers alike. They’ll introduce themselves, shake your hand and you’ll exchange first names. You always feel like you’re their favorite customer.
The sandwiches are to die for. Made exactly as you ask and there’s no skimping on anything. Their hot specials are homemade and so good that you’ll be looking for excuses to bring some home.
The coffee is always fresh and flavorful.
If I had one complaint, it would be that Shelly’s is over an hour drive from my house. Maybe I’ll move.

I love this place. Everything you would expect from a local deli. I love their chipotle chicken salad. It’s so good! I’ve also had the grandpa sandwich, roast beef, cole slaw, swiss & thousand island. Yummy. They don’t toast the sandwiches unless you ask, so make sure to let them know. (If the owners read this, maybe get your staff to start asking customers?). Sometimes the wait is a little long, so if you’re in a rush — call ahead! The employees are all very pleasant. They have a big drink selection and great looking pastries. They also carry milk, eggs and beer — the emergency items! Overall, I always leave this place very satisfied.

Good food and VERY good service. From my limited experience, it is definitely worth upgrading to a wedge (sub) from a regular sandwich (on a roll or bread). They are open early so you can eat subs (or pancakes or wraps or whatever) for breakfast. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. I have found the chicken subs to be the tastiest (compared to turkey and roast beef at least). I plan to try another sub (maybe Vanderbilt??) and a wrap today!

Great little deli. Sandwiches are really good, better than your typical deli fare, and they have some delicious specialty sandwiches… I recommend the eggplant! Great for breakfast too. Food is much better than some of the other delis in the area.
