Gary is right! If you want a challenge then the 10K is for you. There’s nothing like it in San Diego. This is a trail run, all off-road course. They also have a 5K and a kids’ race. The environment is very family/kids friendly. There’s live music, folkloric dancer, food, and more.

INSANE. Borderline ridiculous, really. I ran the 10k course and it kicked my ass. It was, by far, the most challenging course I have ran to date. The 10k commenced at 7:30am. The course began in the beautiful Lake Poway Park and proceeded, by trail, to climb all the way up to the Ramona Dam. The grade was extremely steep, and most individuals, including myself, had to actually slow down to a semi-walking pace at a few points to manuever up the treacherous mountain. Unfortunately, the sheer torture and focus in climbing overshadowed any joy of beholding and appreciating the gorgeous landscape. In fairness, they warned us in advance that the course was«punishing.» No joke! The 5k people had it easier, only having to run around the lake; they were spared having to tackle the trail to the dam. Notwithstanding, the course around the lake had its moments, too. I seriously doubt I will run this course again. The elevation is just too steep. By mile 4 I had stopped caring about my time and was just focussed on getting through the damn thing. According to my Runkeeper, I burned over 1,000 calories on this race. To put it in perspective, I usually burn around 750 calories on a typical 10k. Now it’s time to take a nap.
