Protech Computer Repair

They did a great job working with me and my motherboard manufacturer. The computer tech was friendly, funny and very helpful. Even though it took the manufacturer a very long time to send me my new motherboard protech still quickly installed it and remembered and helped me over a month later. I highly recommend going here for a knowledgeable and helpful fix to any computer issue. They will only really charge you if they fix it, otherwise it’s just the diagnostic fee. They’re extremely helpful and he even threw in a free cord for my optical drive. They won’t tell you that you have to talk to the manufacturer and charge you anyway like geek squad. He will inform you of your options, contacting the manufacturer being chief among them. Then he will work with he manufacturer with you then install the needed part to fix your computer. I cannot say enough how impressed I am with the level of commitment and service I received here.

I have heard great things about Joey and ProTech for awhile now and finally decided to stop by. I have an old laptop that has not worked in 2 years, but has a great deal of family photos on there that I never transferred to an external hard drive. I asked Joey about having him get them off of there for me. He quoted me a very reasonable price to do it for me, but explained that he could show me how to do it myself. And then spent the next 10 minutes going over the process with me, at no charge. My review is not for the quality of work done, since he didn’t fix anything for me, but instead for the amazing customer service that he gave me. I’m not very good with computers so I am sure he will make quite a bit of money off me in the future. I find him very honest and would happily refer any friends to him if they need work done.

Amazing, quality service at a reasonable price! I brought my computer into protech after my computer suddenly decided not to boot up. I had spent the entire day attempting to fix it, only to give up. Within 20 minutes, the owner had figured out the problem and fixed it! He also took the time to re-​arrange some parts that had been incorrectly installed (by the losers at Fry’s electronics), and show me how to install a new hard drive to replace the faulty one that had caused the issues. I highly recommend protech to anyone needing help with their computers.

I was recommended by a friend who is very selective with high expectations of how things should be done. I have seen Joey about three times within the last year and every time he has gotten things done in a timely matter and at a fair price… I have the utmost confidence in what he recommends and have found him to be very honest and courteous. I highly recommend Joey for any computer help you may need.

Took my computer elsewhere only to get charged $ 149 for them not fix my computer. Chose to bring my computer in here and when I explained the problems he knew within 2 minutes what was wrong with my computer (whereas the place I took before took 2 weeks to diagnose). Unfortunately my computer was unfixable due to the severity of the virus. The guy explained that my files were crypted and held for ransom unless I paid a ton of money to get all my files back. The man
was very thorough in the explanation and told me there was hope if the FBI finds the person who invented the virus and puts out the data to recover my crypted files. The man working was extremely helpful and didn’t charge me a dime, which I greatly appreciate! He even gave me advise on what type of computer and protection plan I should buy in the future! I would recommend going here– very helpful and honest!

I’ve been using Unilocal reviews for the past few years for plumbers, electricians and carpet cleaning with wonderful results. Now, when I needed someone to «save» my computer from viruses, pop-​ups, and other unwanted junk, I turned to Unilocal again. I was NOT disappointed with the results. When I called, I spoke with «Joey» at Protech, he was very reassuring that he could rescue my computer. I brought the tower in Monday morning and as promised, I picked it up Wednesday afternoon… FIXED!!! The service was great and the price very fair.

Absolutely fantastic. My computer crashed and I could not restore, and it turned out to be a simple software update failed. Instead of taking advantage they fixed it and charged for a cleaning. Awesome… note address change though.

Joey helped me out when my ASUS computer quit. He even took it home for the weekend to try to figure out why it was giving him different error messages.
On Monday when I called, he said it had to be the motherboard :-(But it was six years old.
When I showed up at his store with an external drive to copy things, to he suggested he pull the hard drive and put it in an external case so that I can actually access it on my new computer as a separate drive. He did it while I waited. After all this $ 30. I’m a customer for life.

I have a 5 yr old HP laptop that was having problems. The screen was flickering. I brought it in on a Tuesday evening. The gentleman (so sorry I didn’t ask for his name) told me it was going to be a cable problem or a screen problem and gave me estimated costs for both. Wednesday he called me and told me that, unfortunately, it was the more expensive repair, the screen. Still, much less expensive than a new laptop. Had it fixed by today (Thursday) and I’m on it now, no screen issues, writing this review. I will go to Protech for all my laptop repair needs, and recommend it to my kids and friends.

Great place convenient location and wonderful service! I can’t remember the guys name but he was very knowledgeable and helped me fix my laptop as quick as possible with the lowest cost he could! I will be using him for my computer needs in the future!

Excellent service! Fast, accurate, and very helpful. I wasn’t too optimistic because another resource had kept it for 10 days and pronounced it dead. I was surprised to hear back in two days that it was a faulty accelerator card and would work without it but slowly. He could order a new one and make it work well and he did just that in one week! He took time to patiently explain to us what it was and answered all our questions. Would definitely use again and recommend highly! Please use this guy so we have a continued good resource in Poway! Thanks! Wish more small businesses treated customers like this!

Took a desktop in to Joey for diagnosis and repairs. He replaced the power supply and got everything into shape while I waited — maybe 20 minutes altogether. I did call him the day before, so he was prepared for my visit. Great work, great service.

Joey was so great. He took in my damaged laptop and checked it out without even charging me. I would have gladly paid the basic charge for that, but he didn’t ask for it. He also determined that the amount of damage would be too expensive to fix for me and advised me about what I could do with the laptop.
I will definitely bring any other computers, laptops, etc there if they need to be worked on!

Joey is the best! I took my old laptop that my daughter got a hold of and broke and he was able to transfer everything to my new laptop, but in addition to that he gave me some great advice as to what kind of laptop to buy. I emailed him a few different computers I was thinking about buying and he gave me some great advice. I will be going to him in the future for sure. He is a stand up guy and is a total people person…

These guys are always ready to help with anything. They fixed my dad’s laptop no problem. Other places had said there was a broken screen. This guy found out that it was just a faulty bulb that a fix for only 60 bucks. So Basically he saved us over $ 150 on top of of the 60 that he had already charged us. He is amazing and fair. I highly recommend him. Always go to him for all your computer needs. My dad is a computer scientist, like he I’ve see what it went to school for help your sciences and he was able to trust this guy enough to fix His laptop

I went to ProTech based on Unilocal reviews for an iMAC HDD replacement.
The owner turns out is a fellow UCSD Engineering Alumnus– so I knew I was in the right place!
He diagnosed my iMAC’s hard drive failure and replaced it, including a full interior cleaning within a day, as promised. He even installed OS X for me so my timeline backup could start right when I got home.
Price was very reasonable. Very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend.
