WPRB 103.3 FM

The quality of the station comes and goes, depending on the ever-​changing shows. These days– too much «blah» for me. Sophomorically titled «Motor Funker» radio (get it? MOTOR FUNKER? I would have laughed at that when i was 10) plays BORING, repetitive trance/house/dance/whatever…I have yet to figure what drugs I need to make it interesting. The ska show features eternally annoying Don Tonik, who yells instead of talking and generally feels that acting like a 1960’s AM DJ on crank is the way to go. The jazz and classical programming remains steady– lots of Sun Ra, and Marvin Rosen’s «classical discoveries» (especially the «…Goes Avant garde» show!) is great. I LOVE Lizbot– only DJ to play MILLENIUM/​Curt Boettcher in the last 30 years, probably. She KNOWS her music, fer sure. John Solomon can be great or unlistenable– which is great, in itself… Readie Righteous, Jamison, the Worried Waltz. there is good stuff. But where I used to keep it on in my office 24/​7, I find myself switching to WRSU or WNYC many days.

One of the truly great «college» radio stations in America. Amazing variety. I’ve been listening to «Music you can’t hear on the radio» (Sun nights from 7 — 10pm) for over 30 years. But the programming is so diverse you’re bound to find something you like at some point. Unless of course your definition of music is the insipid, over-​processed-​Velveeta-​Top40 crap on typical commercial FM :)

If you’re lucky enough to catch John Solomon or Pete Labriola, you’re in for a real treat.

WPRB is the only non-​profit I donate to, other than Good Will. They have amazing listener-​designed swag during their annual fund drive including t-​shirts, buttons, stickers, etc., at different donation levels.
The deejays are beautiful people who like interacting with listeners, which is awesome. They are funny, intelligent individuals who support so many things beyond the station. WPRB always has folks at Art All Night in Trenton, which they promote during their shows leading up to the 24-​hour event organized by Artworks Trenton.

This station is amazing. The best. Sometimes the signal could be a little bit stronger in Philly. Except for the odd Princeton basketball game, this is the only real music station between D.C. and NY.

Bestest radio station around. At least on Tuesday afternoons when they have the Rockabilly Roadhouse!

From The Ghetto Blaster w/​DJ Hi-​Res to Morning Classical and Jazz, the aptly named What is This w/​Jay Barnes (my personal favorite program) to Al Gore Rhythm w/​DJ Doublethink, Sunday Opera to Récherché w/​Readie Righteous, Speak Your Words w/​DJ Slick Frick to Roots Rockabilly Roadhouse Radio w/​Hot Rod Scott and the Professor (they do the BEST calendars) they’ve got pretty much everyone covered.
I’ve been turned on to all types and tempos of music by PRB over the years. It helps keep me sane.
