Not gonna lie this place feels like gentrification central on flatbush. However the food is soo good. And the drinks are pretty affordable. I was very happy with my visit there. They have an extensive whiskey, scotch, bourbon variety. The night I went they were playing 90’s R&B. Had a great time!

It took a while for me to gather my thoughts but now I feel like it’s time to say what I gotta say: Living in this«hood» for 20 years now I have seen many places come and go. This is one spot I cannot wait to see go. I loved it around 2 years ago when they first opened. now not so much. Food just straight up garbage just as bad as the service or lack there of. The last time I went(May 26th) my fiancé and I sat in the back from about 5pm-8ish to eat a damn pretzel. Yes we ordered other food but his food never showed up and my grilled cheese was so nasty. We ordered nachos but according to the poorly trained server they had no chips… the poutine did have chips tho. the burger my fiancé wanted .came with a salad because they had no chips. Confusing right? I know. Now if you’re following me with this story you would know I was in there from about 5ish to about 8. We were prepared to pay with my credit card because 1. it’s my fiancé’s bday so my treat and(my bad for the bad dinner) and 2. because the door has the little sticker thingy that is the universal sign for«we take cards» Oh wait they don’t. Credit card machine was down but our pillsberry doughboy waiter decided to tell us after he hands us the bill and then when we question him about that he decides to comp the only thing we ate. the pretzel(which if you’re desperate enough to eat here I totally recommend). Story doesn’t end there. AFTER my fiancé and I pay for our meal(in full) and leave the little tip we could afford since we used all our cash for the shitty meal we get chased down by no other than the hipster pillsberry doughboy server. He verbally attacked us because we didn’t «tip him well enough we couldn’t afford a meal and we are not welcomed back there» that’s not verbatim BUT that’s pretty much what I got from him yelling at my fiancé and I in the middle of the street on Flatbush. Ok cool… had you mentioned that the CC machine wasn’t working I could have walked over to my 1.5 million dollar brownstone walked up to MY room and gotten cash out of my house(you know since I couldn’t afford a meal) It gets better. I call the store calmly and ask for a manager. Michelle I believe would only offer me a free meal. Dude I don’t need a free meal. I need y’all to either A. get a better chef or menu hell maybe someone with tastebuds. B. Don’t tell me I’m angry and would love for me to come back when I’m calm. because I’m calm. C. teach your staff customer service. Oh and teach them the honesty code. She. and this is verbatim«oh you’re the table that didn’t pay the bill» Uhm excuse me? you may want to check the other two tables in that section that were also dissapointed with the service. We were all pretty much fed up the moment we all ordered. My fiancé and I were the first to leave after we paid. then dude chased us. I notice as he’s walking back. both parties from our section left with their heads down and didnt even acknowledge us meanwhile just 5 mins before they were saying happy birthday and Laughing with us. See had he not chased us over a tip he wouldn’t have been out two checks. This one star goes out to that pretzel tho. that was one of the best pretzels in town. Close up shop and open up a cart in prospect park I’d see y’all everyday :)

Like Bklyn’s version of «Cheers» — a place where everyone knows your name! Great bar food; just fun to go to! And the brunch is terrific!

In Brooklyn for just two days and found this neighborhood bar a minute walk away from where I am staying. Decent selection of craft beers. Really liked the Mango Wheat beer!

Great whiskey selection, pretty good beer selection(including some sours usually) and a tight spot overall. Unfortunately it’s fairly small and gets tight quick(though nothing as bad as Erv’s) so I usually only go for super early or late times to work around that. Atmosphere is your typical dimly lit, wood based hip Brooklyn bar, just now in your local PLG hood. A welcome addition to the neighborhood in my eyes.

We were greeted and seated with comfortable efficiency. It was pretty packed when we were there but the waiter made it a point to make sure we were taken care of and it made all the difference. I will definitely be going back.

I came here twice. The atmosphere is super chill. It does get pretty crowded, which turns me off a bit. I’m sure it’s because it’s a great bar. I have never tried the food, but it looks good. I didn’t give it 5, because I feel the prices are a bit high for a bar on Flatbush Ave, but I know the area is coming up. I’m biased since I live nearby and I just don’t wanna spend a lot at a neighborhood bar.

I’ve only ever been here for drinks, but it was an enjoyable experience! They have a pretty decent beer selection with some cool seasonal selections. I also had some kind of whiskey cocktail — sorry I don’t remember the name. Overall, it’s a good neighborhood spot. Pro tip from someone who’s always in the neighborhood: it gets really crowded on weekends(I’ve heard they have good burgers) and there’s limited seating.

You know, I never really hang out in this area, but places like Midwood Flats really make me regret that. This place has a KILLER whiskey selection, and also great beers on tap and in bottles. A rare 1 – 2 punch. Came here after dinner, so didn’t have any food, but the burgers looked/smelled good. The place was pretty crowded on a Friday, but the hostess made sure we had a place to sit at the bar. Seems like a lot of people have made this their local bar, and I can see why.

Ok, Midwood flats, is a great place to go if you want a cocktail and food. The menu is short. The food is tasty and the drinks are Dy No Mite!

Local spot, been here a few times for both drinks and food. Honestly, I want to like this place a lot… they have a nice selection of beers and whiskey, but the food is not good. Pros: good, stiff drinks with great service, nice atmosphere though can get crowded Cons: so-so food, limited selection on menu; their burgers are way too big with no flavor. Wish they had more appetizers/finger food. And how do you serve burgers without fries? Last, but not least, what is up with the bouncer checking ID’s at the door on weekends? Come on man, this is a bar not a club.

Besides the fact that it was really cold in here,(it was like 15 °F Degrees outside) This place was awesome Workers were really friendly As we were rushed we didn’t try any drinks But we did get the Burger, and I have had many a burger in my life, it was my third word, This is one of The best if not The best Hamburger I’ve ever Had. Come here for the burger and I hear the drinks are really good too

I’ve been here several times for drinks — a beer once, an afternoon mimosa, and a later rye whiskey night cap(on different occasions, I’m not that much of a lush!!) the drinks are good here — the mimosa was the only drink they had to make, and they make em strong! A little pricey on the whiskeys, honestly, but just come for the charm of the place. Good neighborhood feel, and the waiters are very friendly without being in your face all the time. Enjoy!

I have repeatedly ridiculed the brunch madness that plagues the 20 – 30 somethings of Brooklyn. And here I am, at 31, once again enjoying brunch. Damn-o! I came here for brunch(I am a convert) and got the 6 dollar biscuits and gravy(whaaaa?) and the duck comfit hash. I appreciated that the latter came with hollandaise sauce, like a benedict. Gone are the days where you must pick between duck and hollandaise! Hoorah! The prices are right. Get here earlyish because it gets busy. I have been here at night a few times and the food has been a bit inconsistent and the service a bit more Williamsburg than PFG. The beer selection is on point, though, and that is what will keep me coming back.

Popped in around 330am to have my first new years drink after working a NYE event in the city. The bartender seemed cool he was throwing back shots along with other patrons. He called last call at 345, I ordered a sazerac. He said he had to wait for a rocks glass to be cleaned. I was cool, I waited. The bartender dropped the check with my drink and said«whenever you are ready». About 5 minutes later, the door man comes over and encourages us to drink quickly. I told him the bartender just served us and didn’t seem to need us out immediately. The doorman said he would«allow» us to finish our drinks but wanted us to know they officially closed at 4am. The doorman’s random lady friend suggested we chug our drinks like everyone else. We drank quickly but I guess not quickly enough because the doorman came over again and said. «I want to thank you, because I am not paid to be here past 4am and so thank you so much for being here». Clearly this was sarcasm. My coworker was livid and wanted to leave without finishing the drink she paid for. She asked for a business card which the bartender obliged. I finished my drink, but not in peace as the doorman kept coming over saying, «only black people do this to each other, white people drink their drinks and leave when I ask them». When I told him we would leave but would definitely be sending an email to the owner. The doorman said«And I will tell the owner this complaint came from people who were drinking alcohol. I will tell him to check the cameras» I sincerely hope the owner does check the cameras, because he will see the doorman harrassing us. He will also see the doorman drinking on the clock. His lady friend had been buying him drinks while we were there. I get it, they were eager to go enjoy the first few hours of the new year. Too bad they didn’t realize we were only trying to do the exact same thing.

First time visiting. Cool spot. Great music. Dimly lit, gastropub vibe. Great/extensive whiskey/bourbon selection. Service was superb. Super friendly, attentive staff. George checked in often without being annoying. Cracked jokes, made great conversation. Bartender John makes a mean Manhattan. I had several. Margherita flatbread was tasty. I’ve had better. I have worst. Less greens would help. The middle portion that was covered in greens was totally soggy. Jack fritters were delicious. Well balanced, gooey and cheesy. They were not as hot as I would’ve liked. Probably from sitting waiting to be brought to my table. Burger was phenomenal. I asked for it medium and it was prepared perfect. I added bacon. Just well seasoned, juicy, veggies on it were fresh. The salad it came with was lack luster, wilted and not needed though. Very satisfying and a great portion. Fried catfish po’boy(formerly called the Cajun club) was great. It fell apart as soon as it arrived at the table, but when put back together — incredible. Fish was cooked to perfection, chipotle aioli on it was great, a perfect sandwich to share. Just like the burger, however, the salad on the side was not necessary. Midwood’s sandwiches shine without the greens. Overall good experience.

This is a cool spot in an evolving neighborhood that serves as a beacon of quality and fun that others should emulate. My bartender was incredibly passionate about beer and liquor choices, and very conversational throughout my dinner. The burger was very good — not quite up to my high standard in terms of the bun and charbroiled taste — but it certainly belongs in the upper echelons of burgers for Brooklyn. I chose a craft wheat beer to accompany. Good experience. Kind of a strange neighborhood and not for the faint of heart, but this place is laying the foundation for what is becoming one of New York City’s neighborhoods of the moment. The homes in the adjoining streets are beautiful and worth a walk after dining or drinks. I wish them success.

The burger alone would get four stars. It was well seasoned, moist and greasy, and made an appropriate drippy mess from first bite. The accompanying salad was fine and pleasant. Nothing to write home about… although I guess I’m sorta doing that now. Oh well. It’s not enough to make up for the so-so service. This bar isn’t big enough to warrant a long wait for a drink, especially when you are one of three people sitting at the bar. There is a fine line between relaxing a little before the evening rush, and forgetting that I’m right here. The beer selection felt like it was trying too hard. I like beer a lot, but when every single option on a menu is a head scratcher– it’s a bit much. And when only one option appeals to me on a menu, that’s a red flag. Plus, it was overpriced. But at least there was one option. The thing is, compared to other area bars, yes Midwood Flats holds its décor and food to a higher standard so it gets a bump for that. The regulars love it and ultimately that’s what any local spot is really all about. I mean hello, Cheers? Sam wasn’t exactly serving filet mignon for eleven seasons. But as an overall bar/gastropub experience, no it’s not a five star spot — no matter how much you dim the lights and antique stain the hardware. That being said, if you love it, great! You found your local happy place and you should revel in that! Everybody needs one. If you don’t love it, or don’t «get» Midwood Flats, don’t feel badly about it. You aren’t crazy — unless you don’t like the burger. If you don’t like the burger you are, quite possible, crazy.
