Palmieri’s Bakery

If you like Italian bakeries and pastry, Palmieri’s will likely fit the bill. My part Italian bf happens to like the bread items here better than most other Italian bakeries in town and comes here on a semi-​regular basis because it is inexpensive and better than most similar types of Italian rolls and such he’d buy at a grocery store.
Note: a lot of the reviews and photos listed for Palmieri’s Bakery are for the sister café located on DePasquale square so may not reflect what you’ll actually see here (there’s a separate Unilocal listing for that bakery café). This particular location has seating, but is in a quiet neighborhood right off the highway entrance to Rt. 6. This location is quieter and does a lot of carry out business for regulars spanning generations. If you want a more lively environment, late night snacking, or care to hunker down with more scenery and people watch, you’ll probably want to visit the sister bakery/​café off Atwells on the square instead.

I got a spinach and cheese calzone and a chocolate chip cookie. Both delicious. Service was excellent.

The service is excellent and the employees here are always helpful and nice. I go in with my dog before we head to the park a lot of times and they give her a biscuit and so much attention and love (hands-​off because they’re dealing with food, of course!)
The pastries are to die for and the coffee (I typically get an iced white mocha) is near perfection. Their iced teas are great too. If you’re there and want breakfast food, their egg and cheese sandwiches on Italian toast hit the spot, although I have yet to try anything here that I haven’t liked.
I take every single person who comes to visit me here. It helps that it’s practically my back yard, but it’s worth it as well.
If you come to Providence and don’t go to Palmieri’s, you’re doing it wrong.

It was my first time visiting today and I thought that the foods were pretty nice overall–
We ordered the breakfast crêpe and chicken panini. Out of the two, I think the breakfast crêpe was bit better because with the panini, I thought the ingredients were not well-​integrated enough-​I personally like to have hot sauce (tabasco) when I eat these kind of foods, but unfortunately they didn’t have hot sauce which was bit of a pity. On my next visit I want to try some of their dessert menus as well since I had sort of an interlude to it by trying their wine biscuit which wasn’t too bad as well–

Sunday frittata.

Like the outdoor seating, but the carrot cupcake was very meh and tasted like something from a grocery store. The icing had wayyy too much sugar (grainy) and the actual cupcake part was very unremarkable and bland.

Nice place to have a quick bite to eat in Providence. The décor is nothing to rave about it’s a couple lawn chairs and a table.
The crêpe itself was well textured, but the cheese over powered the veggies and the sauce. For some excess cheese may be the gold standard, but in my world it leaves much to be desired.

Really nice day, sat outside under the beautiful shade tree, and had vanilla gelato and an apple turnover. My companion had a brownie with whipped cream. We enjoyed ourselves with the food, cool breeze, and Sunday morning bustle.

The mister and I just moved from a sweet apartment behind Seven Stars to a sweet apartment around the corner from Palmieri’s. Oh excellent bakeries, why are you always within a stone’s throw of me? Why are you always tempting me with delicious treats?
I like Palmieri’s ’cause it has a fantastic selection of pastries (I had an Oreo truffle yesterday that was super good), a big seating area with free wifi (and a big tv, which was showing the Ice T/​Coco reality show when I was last there, SCORE), friendly counter folks who call me «honey» and «sweetheart,» reasonable prices, and lots of coffee.
The only reason I don’t stop at Palmieri’s every day is their lack of soy milk — and my lack of willpower (oh sweet tooth, you plague me so).
It is high on my (theoretical) list of neighborhood faves (I haven’t gotten around to making it yet, stay tuned). A+, excellent Federal Hill bakery, will visit again.

Palmieri’s Bakery is a must-​stop if you are on Federal Hill! A great selection of pastries, breads, pizzas, to top it off their fresh pizza dough works well for grilled pizzas at home. Highly recommend.

If you’re looking to gain 5 lbs in ½ hr this is the place to do it. Jenny Craig would ask for seconds of the Russian tea cake and so will you. The quintessential Federal Hill Italian bakery, Palmieris has all of the canolis, lemon squares, danish, gelato, out of this world loafs of bread, and pinky ring wearing, chunky bracelet dangling wiseguys you could ask for… and then some. BTW –try the ‘Doyle’ sandwich and its just wrong to leave without getting a double shot of espresso. Great place to chill out on a nice night with good friends and even better people viewing.

Sweet Mother-​of-​God! What a find this place was.
As I debated which of the delicious-​looking treasures to try in the dessert case, I helped myself to three — yes, three — brownie samples. I originally went in for a cannoli, but those brownies were oh-​so-​good, I was torn. What a crazy dilemma. I finally opted for the cannoli because — fongool — I was in «Little Italy» in Providence.
We grabbed our desserts and drinks and the four of us went outside to dine. As we sat there, we all thought the others had picked up the tab. Yikes! We went inside to apologize for just walking out without paying. Apparently, though, that’s protocol. They told us just to come back in when we’re done with our dishes and pay then. Wow – very trusting establishment. Or they just want to make sure they get their plates back.
Now, onto the cannoli. It was freakin’ A-​M-​A-​Z-​I-​N-​G! It melted in my mouth. I seriously could have eaten another (and more brownie samples), but I was good. I did just have a big pasta dinner up the street, too, so…
If I lived in Providence, I’d be by Palmieri’s weekly to try something new. I’d say daily, but then you’d have to roll me in and out of the store.

This was at the DePasquale square location. very good cannoli. others desserts we got were just ok. zepoli was just bad. coffee was lukewarm. when my friend asked if the coffee was fresh she said yes they make it every day. huh?

I want to love this place, as I live about 5 steps away and it’s been there over a hundred years, but the pastries are just not great, especially with Seven Stars and Scialo Bros so close.
That said, I do like their pizza pretty well, and I also enjoy their coffee. Service is not always friendly, but really fits in with the old-​school Providence Italian bakery ambiance (says the girl who’s lived in Rhode Island all of 7 months). There’s always a table of older Italian gentlemen in one corner upon whom I enjoy eavesdropping. Overall I’d give it a B+ for ambiance and a C+ for food.

Went to the Des Pasqual location off Atwells today for breakfast… and ended up getting a slice of carrot cake too .
We got the Bacon, Tomato egg and cheese on a bagel and the ham egg and cheese on a bagel… both were pretty good. Great bagels, but the sandwich was a little dry. (maybe ask for egg over/​easy next time). But for the $ 2.50 price tag, ill take it.
But the carrot cake… WOW. probably safe to say the best i’ve had in my life. So much frosting, but not too much. I would recommend it to everyone.

Very mediocre pastries.
On Ridge St., the service is just sad. I think I’ve left without getting anything the last two times (only went in because it was on the way to work, but then so is Dunkin’ Donuts, and they don’t seem to dislike their customers).
What happened to the real original owner? She left about 5 years ago, and although Palmieri’s is decorated now, the food is pretty lame. I just can’t go back anymore, it’s so sad.

As I write I am channeling the deliciousness of my Italian sandwich. Taste that salami, mortadella, provolone, hot peppers, tomato and lettuce on a great hard italian bread (was given the choice of soft/​hard). And let the fact that it only cost $ 5 sink in.

Perhaps I should have ordered the cannoli, as that seems to be the popular item here, but instead, my friend and I were sorely disappointed by our oatmeal raisin cookie and napolean.
We TRIED to eat the cookie, but it was rock hard and judging from the blacked bottom of the cookie, it was apparent that it was overbaked. I asked for a new one, and while it was better, it was still way too hard for a giant bakery-​style cookie.
The napolean, like all their baked goods, looked AMAZING, but it also was a disappointment. The custard was not spread evenly throughout so that much of the pastry was just flaky dough.
In addition to our poor pastries, the girl behind the counter couldn’t answer the simple question of whether the cookies were chewy or not, which makes me think she didn’t know anything about the products, the crepes they were making looked way overcooked, and the other workers openly fought in front of us. It made for an uncomfortable visit, like going to a friend’s house in grade school and watching the parents argue.
To their credit, the place was very cute and charming… but my experience suggests it’s all just a façade.

Our group of four dropped into Palmeiri’s on a quest for a good cannoli, after just feasting on some excellent Italian sandwiches over at Venda. Palmieri’s, just a short walk across DePasquale Square, did not disappoint. The café/​bakery is warmly appointed, with seating for about a dozen or so people, and also offers fresh baked goods, sandwiches, and coffee and espresso. We were all about the cannolis though, so order up three chocolate dipped (I foolishly declined, thinking that I did not have room after the feast at Venda). After a little begging, my fiancée’ let me have a bite… or two, and they were absolutely divine. It was a Sunday so it was staffed with just one person, but she was friendly, and upon overhearing our conversation on figuring out our wedding guest list, offered up some helpful advice!
Drop in to Palmieri’s for a cannoli, maybe some coffee, and perhaps some nice conversation, and potentially some good advice!
