Great place to go if you wanna drink and watch multiple games at once. However the food and customer service was subpar. Rude waitresses and my chicken salad tasted like warm tuna.

Came here for drinks during a late night and was disappointed in the amount of people there. We did love the deal on the beer towers though. I am interested in coming back during the day to try their food.

Yummy burgers! Big selection on menu ranging from salads to pizzas to burgers and dinners. Fun to hang out with college group at the busy Thayer St area. Excellent selection of beers– bottles and draft. Bartender is friendly with excellent service. New out door seating.

Spats has gotten better! The current staff is really friendly(Allie, Jocelyn, Julie, Sarah, Katie) Monday night trivia is great. I had the mushroom swiss burger with broccoli, the Snickers pie, and a buffalo chicken pizza to go(got the Groupon, had to spend).

Spats is a popular watering hole with some pub grub for the college students on the hill. Pretty decent beer selection – that’s definitely their alcohol of choice, and the only one I’ve had while there. Food is decent, but nothing to write home about. I did once get a free wrap out of a miscommunicated order, though, which I was appreciative of. They offer giant beer/margarita towers, which the college crowd laps up(er, chugs). They also have cheap wings on Mondays and karaōke on Sundays, both of which make for fun nights.

Spatz is near and dear to my heart. I love their carbonator pizza(garlicky mashed potatoes with scallions and bacon — divine) and their beer flight(4 beers for something pretty darn cheap). Trivia night is great fun but Name That Tune always kills us. If you wanna go for Trivia night, you gotta get there pretty early to stake a table… I mean, please get there late so we will have a table. ;) And make sure you get the mashed potato pizza.

Great food and beer selection. Service is fast. Sunday nights are karaōke. If you like the food, also try paragon across the street. Same over. Similar food, but more options.

This place is a college bar, But let me tell you something, Katie the bartender makes it a more than pleasurable experience! I love her. Someday I may propose to her. Katie IS Spats! Also, Amanda is an amaZing server! These people make this local college bar more than just a fad. They are great! They make Spats another speakeasy in a city full of douches!

Definitely a prize pub restaurant on the east side. Large portions, fun menu, fair prices and good service all wrapped into one. Bring a designated driver, there’s a lot to drink!

I’d been to Spats in years past for many 21st birthday’s, margarita tubes and beer tubes, but it’s been awhile. I heard they had trivia on Monday’s, so my team decided to go check it out. It’s pretty much the same as it’s always been. The interior is nice and has a cool pub vibe without being too fancy. They have a lot of beers, but nothing really special on tap. The beer tubes are totally worth it if you have a big group, but we had a small group with really only two beer drinkers, so we passed on that. The food is quite average, but priced accordingly. I had the buffalo quesadillas, and they were pretty bland and needed lots of bleu cheese. My boyfriend got the French fry sampler, which was alright but not anything special. My friends shared the chicken pesto pizza, which looked pretty good and they both really liked it. The service was kind of snooty and fake. Nothing bothers me more than when somebody fakes being pleasant. I could tell by her grin that she was kind of annoyed with us for whatever reason. At least she was attentive. Their trivia night is pretty awesome and they have one of the best jockeys from WRIK. He tries to keep it under 2 hours and he’s also hilarious. Will return for trivia… The food not so much.

When I do come to Spats I am a big fan of the Buffalo Chicken pizza. The other food is pretty good too just not out of this world. They also have a decent beer selection. They are well know for their tubes of beer. If you do the math they aren’t really worth it besides not waiting for refills. On weekend nights, they play the music wicked loud and it is hard to have a conversation. All in all, Spats is pretty good if you want to grab some food and a beer but its not one of my go to places.

I like the idea of this place a lot more than the place itself. A friend and I sat down and waited quite sometime for our frazzled server to come over. When she did, she asked if we wanted menus and we said drink menus. The menus she brought over was for beer only. We patiently waited for her to come back so we could ask for the«drink-drink» menu. When she came back, we asked her if there was a special on sangria tubes and she looked at us like we had five heads. «No. We always have sangria tubes.» I then explained I thought they were half off and she explained that is on Sundays. ANYWAY, we wanted to order one, but had to have four people. We waited for our other people to come and she came over again, frazzled and asked us what we wanted. We ordered a sangria tube and never received it. When she came back, she asked if we knew what we wanted… so we told her a sangria tube. When we finally got it, we ordered two French onion soups – WHICHWEREOUTOFTHISWORLD. AMAZING. I’m not even kidding, they were so good. But, we never saw our server again except when she dropped the check. And she never came back to take our form of payment. She just kind of glared at us from across the room. Trust me, I know how it is. I’ve waited on my fair share of annoying parties who ask annoying questions, but you don’t show your attitude and you don’t ignore them. Grin and bare it. Perks of corporate, you learn how to give guests amazing customer service and like it. In the end, the amazing French onion won’t be enough to bring me back. Maybe a special tube night? But the place is too small and – is oddly enough – always packed. $ 35 for a tube full of ice with half the sangria they claim? Confusing server with an attitude? Maybe I’m bitter, but I won’t be back.

I had higher expectations for Spats and was sadly disappointed. I had heard good things from friends and went to try it out after purchasing a living social deal. First off, our waitress was kind of a jerk. I know how busy it can get working in a kitchen, but a customer shouldn’t be rushed or feel like a burden because the waitstaff has an attitude. The food was over priced and mediocre. I don’t see what all the fuss was about.

After walking on a hot humid day and starving, I was eager to head to an establishment that served good ol’ American grub. I saw Spats and decided; this is definitely an American grub joint. We first had the mozzarella balls but they were more like tiny gross mozzarella pancakes. I mean I’m a bit of a mozzarella stick addict and despite being essentially the same thing, these were some of the worst I’ve tasted.(I thought they were easy to make?) Then we had the buffalo chicken wrap and a burger. The burger wasn’t so bad until about 25 minutes later when I felt beyond sick. The buffalo chicken wrap was flat out the grossest one we’ve ever tasted. I’m not even sure it was chicken? While the waiter was super nice and cool, he was inattentive and SUPER slow. We were one of the only patrons here and we had to wait quite a long time for him upon any request. I will avoid Spats next time. My stomach and tastebuds will thank me.

I recently bought and used a Groupon for this establishment. Why you ask? In looking back at my 11/22/2009 review of this place, I was feeling a bit nostalgic. The date I spoke of was the 1st of many many more to come… why not return to the place where it all started(good or bad) to relive old times and get a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately the experience was so poor that it is unlikely we will return in the future except for a drink or two to relive old times in another fit of nostalgia… if that. Having never eaten there before, I was unsure what to expect. I figured a bit of pub grub would be satisfying enough… though this turned out not to be the case. First came the warm Magner’s Cider’s. Next, the overly cheesy and not enough spinach and artichoke dip on limp Greek pitas. Onwards, to the mediocre burgers. Lastly, the gelatinous New York Cheesecake. I wasn’t expecting a gourmet meal… but at least one in which I don’t have a complaint about each and every portion of it. … at least give me a cold beer on a hot day… thats all I ask… And the service, my god the service. Sooooo sooooo sooooo slow. The bf and I started trying various strategies to catch and elicit the attention of our waiter, who always seemed to happen upon us, seemingly surprised by our presence at every turn. The final straw came when he stated he would«be right back» for my Groupon number in order to receive the check… then proceeded to flirt with a patron at the bar, take an extended trip outside, then finally return for my phone before disappearing behind the scenes for another long period of time before finally returning. Ughhhhh. Painful. Not worth it in my opinion.

We came as two separate groups on bingo night(Wednesday), and we won two gift cards towards our next visit! Food: I ordered a Spats burger(your standard mushroom swiss melt), snickers cheesecake, and a $ 20−100oz beer tower. They were all pretty generic fare, but one thing that stood out for me was the hot sauce they give you. It’s not Srircha with the rooster on it, it’s some weird brand with a dragon on it. Not spicy at all. Atmosphere: It’s a small place that seats maybe 40 people at different heights. There were a lot of people playing bingo trying to win free stuff(probably Brown University students). It’s a little loud if you’re looking to take someone out on a date. Staff: Staff is pretty attentive, even if it looks like they’re understaffed. They probably have more people working in the back than they do in the front. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Final Thoughts: There are plenty of places to eat on this street, but I’ll give this place another shot if I’m ever bar-hopping in the area.

I have mixed emotions about spats. While service was decent and the owner gave everyone a round of shots during the USA men’s soccer game, I’m not sold on everything else. Its a cool hang out spot if you want to grab a beer with friends but its usually pretty crowded so intimate conversation might be difficult. Expect college age patrons. Beer selection is extensive both on tap and bottled. We watched soccer there and they had big screens which had good quality pictures. The nachos are weird… its a strange white cheese. But it comes prepared in a cool chip bowl. I hear the pizza is pretty good but ours was soggy. They were really busy so maybe they were in a rush. Not too sure. I say if you want a beer and a quick snack go for it.

Eh. Spats is ok, if you are going out for a night of drinking with your friends and want to be surrounded by newly 21 year olds drinking large amounts of alcohol served in giant tubes and you don’t enjoy your service with a smile. Ok. I’m laying the sarcasm on pretty thick here but that’s really what Spats is. I tried to go for lunch during the day with a friend and the food is just mediocre. I had the ahi tuna sandwich and it is much better at Paragon. Also, our waitress disappeared for a good 15 minutes with our dishes sitting on our table and us waiting for refills on our drinks. The bar had a bunch of people but we were the only table in the place. She also wasn’t super friendly when she was around. Overall, this place is mediocre. I probably won’t go back.

«Whenever I meet someone who does not consider chili a favorite dish, then I’ve usually found someone who has never tasted good chili.» — Jan Butel, author of «Chili Madness,» If you don’t like chili, it must be because you ordered the Southwestern Beef Chili at Spats. It tasted about as unappealing as it looked. Flavors were severely lacking in this dish. I debated ordering a dessert, but learned that the majority of the desserts there are frozen pre-ordered treats. Two thumbs down.

I don’t know why I’ve eaten here so much. The food is ok, the prices are a little high, and the atmosphere is decidedly bro-ish(giant tubes of beer and lots of sport on lots of tvs), which I don’t much care for. Once upon a time, I bought a discounted coupon for this place, and now I seem to keep going there despite the fact that every time I suggest it, my dining companion rolls his or her eyes and I have to insist. Why do I insist? I would never call this place a favorite. Their beer selection is adequate. They used to have a pizza that had a salad on top of it, and I liked that, but they don’t have it anymore. Everything I’ve had there has been merely fine, but I keep going back. In my head, Spats is a good standby restaurant on par with an Applebees or TGI Fridays, but less gross and with better décor. But I would never go to Applebees or TGI Fridays, so why the hell does that thought comfort me? Somehow I convince myself beforehand that it will be good, but it rarely is. Spats is under my skin, and I don’t know why. It probably has something to do with my childhood.
