The Peaceable Kingdom

First visit here. Definitely a wide variety of items from different places around the world. Many of the items weren’t tagged and had no explanation of where they were from. For the items that did have an origin labeled, I’m curious as to how much of the profit is going back to those places of origin– it’s not clear. Pricing isn’t clear either. Scarves on the sale rack marked $ 18 were the same scarves, just different colors, on a regular priced rack marked $ 18. When I asked what the sale actually is the staff person told me «if it says $ 18 that’s what it must be». He didn’t offer any further explanation. What is the point of listing a rack «sale», if it’s not actually discounted? I’m happy to support local and would encourage others to do the same, I just feel there could be more organization and explanation of items.

This is an amazing store full of culturally rich, beautifully crafted, exotic art pieces, clothing, instruments, jewelry, and home goods, lovingly curated by a kind and wise soul whose name I can’t remember.
The jewelry is easily my favorite aspect of the store, and the owner has an interesting collection of rings from Asia and elsewhere. She is full of knowledge, history and fascinating stories about the places she’s traveled and the goods in her store. You can tell this is a passion for her!
Her tibetan singing bowls have such a deep rich and resonant sound. My boyfriend was transfixed by them. They put our singing bowl to shame!
Of note, they also participate in Providence Gallery Night. The owner mentioned some kind of event where there was group meditation in the store, which sounds like a beautiful experience so I hope to go back for Gallery Night one of these nights!
While the store is obviously incredible, I would say half of the appeal is speaking to the owner herself about her experiences and the stories about the pieces she sells. She is such a fascinating lady and just oozes kindness!

A friendly shop crammed with rugs, jewelry, woodwork, and all kinds of other crafts from around the world.
I was in the market for a blanket to throw over my couch, and I had been planning to go to Urban Outfitters for it (blah)… but then I happened to walk by The Peaceable Kingdom. They had EXACTLY the kind of thing I was looking for, but probably better quality, and it cost less. I was really happy to patronize this shop rather than a chain and will definitely be back for gifts and other décor items!

What a great store! Very unique! Lots of handmade, fairtrade items for sale. They are the nicest people. I love going into the store and looking around for hours. This is my go-​to place for gifts.

Stopping into this shop is like entering a special museum, in the way that a great museum tells stories and engages its visitors. Bonus — it’s all for sale!

October, when a Dia de los Muertos alter graces the large display upon first entering, showcasing the hundreds of beautiful, funny, morbid, colorful, glitzy, some blush-​inducing Mexican skeletons.
December. Nativity scenes from around the world. Breathtaking.

A really cool shop full of treasures from around the world. The prices are very reasonable and the people working there are helpful, nice, and funny!
This is a great place to get fair trade arts, crafts, clothing, musical instruments, etc.
They even have little homemade boxes to put your purchases in.
