Wayne’s Service Plus

I’ve been going to Wayne’s for two years now and am so happy I found them! They are thorough, honest and will take the time to explain anything to you if you’re feeling on the fence about something. I recently took my car in to get the oil changed only to find out that I had read my mileage sticker wrong and the oil didn’t need changing after all! Instead of not telling me and doing the work anyway (and charging me for it), Michelle let me know that the oil change was unnecessary and that I could come back when it was time to get the oil changed. I will no doubt be doing that for as long as I’m in Rhode Island! Thanks Wayne’s and Michelle!

Super Crappy service! Dropped the car off 4 days ago and were told that they were ordering a part and the repairs were to be done on Friday. Now we are told the part arrived broken and are now waiting in the ether til god knows when for yet another part to arrive. Manager was rude and condescending. Plus they are charging us $ 1000.00 for this service… To think I referred my girlfriend to this horrible place.
WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER GOTTEN!

The individuals at Wayne’s Service Plus are genuinely kind and trustworthy. I bought a used car recently and the pressure in the brakes went out a week later. I took it to Wayne’s, they assured me they would look at it and get back to me in a few hours and even gave me a ride to where I needed to be in the meantime. Unfortunately, they discovered that not only the brake lines were completely rotten, but that the car I just bought had a laundry list of major problems and was beyond repair. This could have been devastating, but Trisha walked me through how to handle the situation. She literally told me exactly what to say in order to pressure the previous owner to give me my money back and also had a back up plan of filing a complaint with the DMV if I didn’t get my money back. Lo and behold, my money was returned pain free thanks to Trisha and the folks at Wayne’s. I can’t thank them enough. They wouldn’t even let me pay for the inspection even though I asked to several times. It can be such a dog eat dog world that I’m blown away by how much they’ve gone out of their way to help me without asking for anything in return. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!

Sadly I must say that Wayne’s WAS the place to bring my car for service but after the last two times I went there and got a laundry list of repairs that I truly didn’t need I will never return. Then to have a repair they recently did fail and be told you need to spend the full amount again (explained in detail below) was the last straw for me. Plus many of my friends and family have stopped going there due to the pressure they put on you with that said laundry list of repairs.
Years ago I could trust Wayne’s but as time has gone on it has become more like a high pressure dealership service department. Well I am not at a dealership! And if I were I think they would be less condescending than the employees at Wayne’s! The ironic thing is that the same people I recommended Wayne’s to over the years started getting the same feeling and treatment and also stopped going there as a result.
The last straw was when I brought my car in because the brakes were making a grinding sound. I had recently spent over $ 500.00 on them at Wayne’s only four months prior, so I figured something was wrong with what they had recently repaired. Sure enough, the same part failed. They had the nerve to tell me what they fixed was not under warranty and that I needed to spend the FULL amount on the repair again! I was furious and told them after all the money and years I have spent going to them they were not going to help me out? Well, you have lost another faithful customer.
Also, I will never forget how they were pressuring me years ago to have my oil pan gasket replaced due to very slight «seepage» at the tune of about $ 300.00. On an older vehicle, I figured I would let it go and if it worsened i would have it repaired. My new mechanic told me it was fine and guess what, over 9 years and 120,000 miles later that gasket never more than «seeped» and I never had an issue with it. Ever!
It is sad that I have come to feel this way about Wayne’s, but I feel in today’s world everyone’s hard earned money is just that — hard earned. And for a business to treat its good customers like they treated me only makes me want them to know how I truly feel.

What a horrible horrible place. Let me start by saying that I have not been there in 3 years, but due to the fact that they continue to call/​email me after I have requested several times to be taken off their list serves, it prompted me back here. I would generally not rate a place so negatively, especially a small business, but truly the worst automotive service ever. I needed my radiator fixed and had to bring it in three times to have it done correctly and even after the third time, it still never ran the same and there have been multiple problems that have occurred since then related to the heating/​cooling system. Friendly staff, but really awful job on the car. Would not recommend.

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this review – for years I serviced 3 Honda Civics with Wayne’s Service Plus, I’ve recommended him to others… but today’s experience was simply awful. I called 3 weeks ago to make an appoint for a valve adjustment I was quoted an estimate of $ 160+ tax, which seemed very reasonable. I dropped the car off at 8:30a; by 2p I hadn’t heard anything so I called and was told they just completed the visual inspection… she listed off a few things, but said she would prepare an estimate.
When I ever went in and received the estimate I nearly fell over! The car was just inspected a week earlier and passed the inspection with flying colors, the mechanic recommended services that were either recently performed or unneeded. Claiming belts were worn and then when we look under the hood and feel the belts, there’s no sign of «dry rot»; in addition to over $ 3000 worth of other «recommendations»…granted, a couple of the suggestions were warranted, but most were simply a scare tactic and I expected better from Wayne’s. Maybe it was the way that the «recommendations» were presented? Perhaps, if it was prefaced with many of the «recommendations» are based on the age of the part, not necessarily the condition… maybe I wouldn’t have felt like it was a scare tactic and I was being completely BS’ed? Perhaps they should rethink this new tactic – I’ve read some other reviews where others were very unhappy being given a laundry list of «recommendations».
However, the icing on the cake today was that the job came in over $ 100 higher than what was originally quoted. The only positive thing I can say about my experience today, was that Michelle split the difference with me on her quoting error, but I still paid $ 50 more than originally quoted. Not to mention, it wasn’t explained to me why it took Mike 180 minutes, 2.5 hours for a valve adjustment, when a typical one takes 90 minutes? It seriously makes me wonder if he had difficulty and was the service performed correctly? I guess time will tell?

In my experience, Wayne’s Service is an excellent, Rhode-​Island-​style (in the best sense of that term) business: small; friendly; attentive to your particular needs and situation; honest; and competent. If you express a concern, it’s almost immediately addressed by the staff, often including the owner, Wayne, who always seems to be around and willing to address and explain any issue.
Wayne’s offers the antithesis of the experience at a big dealership, where your vehicle disappears into the garage and, a couple hours later, a salesperson explains what was done; Wayne’s is more like bringing your car to a neighbor who’s a skilled mechanic and hanging out with his affable family for a couple hours. Small, interested, capable businesses like Wayne’s are increasingly a rarity: it’s great to see that some still survive. One wish: that Wayne’s was open on Saturdays (but I understand that a small business like this, where all or almost all staff are present every working day, needs a couple days off each week).

Friendly, thorough service. The staff went out of their way to make sure that I was satisfied. I was offered home made carrot cake while I waited and then, when my car maintenance took longer than expected, was offered a ride to work or the use of their rental car. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable in their field of expertise. Their prices are reasonable and the company is trustworthy. I always go to Wayne’s for my car maintenance issues.

I need to let off some steam.
I looked for a car mechanic a few years ago and decided on Wayne’s because of their seemingly high recommendations on Unilocal (check out the filtered reviews). Wayne seems very nice, but his staff can be condescending and passive aggressive at times, and I really want to support a family run business but I’m tired of always feeling punched in the stomach after taking the cars in.
I get it — I have a 2000 Camry: it’s an old car and it has old car problems, and could use some help now and then. But it really seems that every time I go in, for something simple like an oil change, I get recommended $ 2000+ repairs. That’s barely the worth of my car! This time, I got the complimentary service check that recommended $ 4000+ on my car! I mean, come on. Are all those necessary? It’s like going to a doctor who’ll check every lab possible and do a full body scan ad tell you a whole list of things that you have to fix. I don’t know … I’m frustrated at their ongoing ridiculous quotes and I’m frustrated at their attitude. Michelle sneaks in some major condescending remarks behind that smile. I don’t need to feel worse, after you’ve already given me that enormous quote!
Those little coupons for $ 10 or a free oil change after 4 are going in the trash — not worth it. I’m going to keep my business with East Side — they are reasonable, reliable, honest, and respectful. Their quotes have always been less and they’ve always handled our car issues very well.

The comment left by Wayne certainly sounds like it is trying to discredit me. I have messaged them twice in response to their initial message me with promises to «make it right» yet they did not respond to me directly on message, instead left the comment that they can’t reach me. This was sometime ago, and I have moved out of the area. (I had a 1997 honda civic dx and lived at XXXX St at the time) I felt compelled to write a review due to seeing all the poor reviews under «not recommended» and being able to relate to the experiences the other reviewers had. I still feel jipped by having to pay for labor to replace a part (radiator) that failed in under a year, which was originally installed in your shop.

I’m not sure why you stated on your comment that you could not reach me via Unilocal,as I replied to your message. Like I said in my initial review, Trish did not give me an accurate quote, and then Trish called and berated me on the phone the next day for not having the coupon when I picked up the car. I do not understand your continued stance that Trish would have handled the situation better had she been there when I picked up my car.
My suggestion to improve service would be to provide accurate quotes. If a part fails that you installed, do not charge labor to replace a defective part. Provide AAA members discounts regardless of if they have the coupon or not. And most importantly, do not call customers and tell them how they should behave «next time.» If you want to find my file, my last name is RXXXe. I dont know how you would find it with just «Amy R.»

Hi Wayne,
I have mentioned I was treated poorly and I do not believe I should have paid for labor to replace a subpar part installed by your shop. Radiators should certainly last more than 2 years. The coupon was only applied to my account after a great deal of back and forth with the counter person when I picked up my car. I just want you to take a look at your staff and the way customers are treated. The other poor reviews mention the same.

Although they are very nice and they probably do a competent job, the mark up they charge for parts is pretty ridiculous. I had an issue with my brakes which needed to be fixed quickly. They were able to schedule me in the day I called, which was great, but in retrospect the cost of the repair was too high.
Price for labor is in line with what other places charged, but I cannot justify the price of parts because of nice service.
They recommended some other repairs for my car, and out of curiosity I called the local Toyota dealer to ask about one of the repairs. Toyota gave me a quote for parts that was significantly less than what Wayne’s was asking for, which solidified my feeling that these people took me for a ride. They get one star for fixing it and one star for being polite while they ripped me off. I found another mechanic my area, to get a second opinion about what Wayne’s recommended and unlike this shop the other mechanic physically showed me the part and explained it’s function instead of presenting of me with a piece of paper listing expensive repairs.
I won’t be back. Look at those filtered reviews folks, I’m not the only one who has had this experience.
I have since taken the car two other mechanics at honest shops who both told me that it was not necessary to do the repairs Wayne’s recommended. They said the parts were worn but that they did not believe it was necessary to replace them. I would have paid to have the work done but both second opinions I got said the repairs were not necessary. Don’t go here. I can message you the names of two mechanics who will give you an honest assessment of the condition of your car.

I called on Monday to bring in my 2007 Civic Hybrid for an oil change, and even from that moment, I knew I would love this place. The person on the phone told me exactly how much it would cost, what other services they would provide and generally what to expect when I came in on Wednesday morning.
When I got there, I was reminded about what to expect, and I was also given updates on when they would get started with my car, when they would be finished, etc. So the aspect of their service I was most impressed by was their excellent, excellent communication. Michelle, at the front desk, kept me informed every step of the way.
That’s what made it easy to trust what they say, even when they strongly recommended that I replace my almost-​dead battery. They also gave me an estimate of services that they highly recommend I do in the next oil change or two to extend the life of my car and tires (rods, brake pads, etc.). I was surprised that the total was over $ 8k, but Michelle took her time to explain everything and told me and didn’t push me to have it done that day.
At the end of my service, I was handed a AAA survey card to fill out if I wanted (they are AAA approved) and of course I marked «excellent» for everything. But I was glad to see this kind of accountability with a larger organization, further solidifying my trust in this business.

— At the time of my service, a Unilocal check-​in earned me $ 10 off my first-​time service!
— AAA membership will get you 5% off all parts.

When I read all of the marvelous reviews on Unilocal about Wayne’s Service Plus, I was naturally a little skeptical — it seemed too good to be true — but I made the call nonetheless, and booked an appointment for a complete brake job.
From the moment I walked through the door of Wayne’s Service Plus, I felt instantly comfortable and confident. These folks know what they’re doing, and, of equal importance, they are incredible professionals.
When I met Trish and Michelle, the service manager and service consultant, THEY BOTH SHOOK MY HAND AND LOOKED ME STRAIGHT IN THE EYE! When, in this day and age, do you encounter that??? I work in corporate marketing communications, and some white collar professionals don’t possess the business skills that I encountered upon entering Wayne’s.
Michelle entered all of my information into the system, asked me great questions about what I had experienced with my car, and then explained to me their diagnostic process. I signed the work order and was prepared to work from their comfortable waiting area, complete with beverage service and WiFi.
They brought my vehicle right in, and let me know that I had let things go too far, in terms of the brake condition. It would be a comprehensive brake replacement, which wasn’t a shock to me. I pulled into their lot, braking metal on metal. Michelle and Trish suggested that I might want to consider a one-​day rental, which made total sense to me.
Within ten minutes, they had a Hertz rental agent on-​site, with a nice, clean car for me, at a preferred rate for Wayne’s customers. INCREDIBLE! I had never before experienced such convenience from an automotive service company. I signed for the car rental and was on my way.
Within about an hour, I received an email from Wayne’s with a comprehensive and detailed estimate of all of the work that my car needed. It was right in line with my expectations and there were no surprises. When I called to authorize the work, Trish let me know that my parking brake had needed replacement, as well. Again, no surprises, there, but what did surprise me was that Trish said she would photographically document the condition of the parking brake, so I could see for myself its unsafe condition. She did this on her own initiative. Amazing!
I picked up my car, the next day, and, sure enough, Trish showed me the pictures of what my poor, old e-​brake looked like before the repair. They collected the keys to my rental car, I paid for my repair, and Trish shook my hand and said to me, «Thank you for your business and for trusting us.» I was absolutely blown away by that. Who does that, nowadays!?! What an incredible professional!
It’s been a couple of weeks since my experience at Wayne’s, and, thankfully, everything has been great. My brakes are perfect, and I couldn’t be happier. Additionally, I am relieved to have found an amazing, trusted resource for all of my future automotive repair needs.
I wholeheartedly recommend Wayne’s Service Plus to anyone. They are truly exceptional professionals who understand that outstanding customer service is monumentally important to success in business.

I went here due to the 5 star reviews & I think I may be coughing up the $ for Angie’s list. First off, the staff is incredibly friendly and that in itself is a GREAT marketing strategy and perpetuates trust. That said, I left with a quote of over 2200 for repairs to my car that within a half hour I had a new quote for half that and could not be more happy from my dealership no less. In the waiting room I had concern over whether or not I was successful in my wi-​fi connection or if I needed coffee… SUPER FRIENDLY. they get your confidence. BUT DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH A GOOD DEAL but rather GOOD MARKETING… go elsewhere my good people.

Bringing my Honda Element in for service at Wayne’s was a great experience. They know Hondas and did an a bang up job.
Customer service was excellent. They kept me in the loop, called my cell to discuss things, and were clear in their descriptions. They nailed the main reason I brought it in, a rattle from the rear-​undercarriage, which turned out to be the sway bar bushings. Now, not a peep! Fast turn around, good prices… but they did two things that really put them over the top:
1. They detailed the inside of my car. I drive an Element, its a beach and gear car for me, which means it was full of sand, leaves, etc. The inside was shining and spotless when I got it back. This may have a limited-​time, special bonus type thing… so I’m not saying its going to happen for you.
2. There was a minor issue with one of the things they did and they really took care of me… totally made it right. That I’d say, you can expect from them.
Anyways, I’ll be going back. See you there.

After living 8 years in Providence, I’ve finally found a mechanic I trust! Sadly, I will be moving to DC next month, but I made sure to bring my car in one last time for an oil change. Wayne and the rest of his staff are all very friendly and courteous, and you never feel like you’re being cheated. Their prices are fair, and they won’t recommend unnecessary repairs. If you live or work near the shop, they also offer free pick-​up or drop-​off.
Last year, I brought my car in because of a strange scraping noise coming from my front right tire. They took it out for a test drive, brought it back to the garage, and found a loose panel, which they fixed all within 15 minutes. And best of all, no charge!
There have been a couple of times when during a routine check while getting oil changed, a few problems have come up. Each time, they called, explained the problem, and gave their professional assessment of what should be done before starting any work. As somebody with little knowledge of car mechanics, I’ve always felt that their explanations were clear and honest.

I asked Wayne’s to do a pre-​purchase inspection on a used car. As I live in South Carolina, all of the coordination was done over the phone with Trish who was the ultimate friendly professional. Communication was awesome and their evaluation of the car was direct and honest which prevented me from making a very expensive mistake.
Wayne’s Service Plus has my highest possible recommendation for customer service, trustworthiness, and quality.

I’ve never been to a better mechanic! As a college-​aged girl who doesn’t know much about cars, I’m always wary about being taken advantage of at mechanics– they could say almost anything and it’d be difficult for me to know that it was dishonest. I’ve had only the best experiences at Wayne’s and have recommended it to several friends who have also had great experiences.
The first time I went, the check engine light was on and I didn’t know what was wrong– they spent about half an hour checking everything and realized it was a really quick fix– something was partially unscrewed– and didn’t even charge me! I was expecting to have to spend a bit to get it fixed and was so pleasantly surprised that I’ve sent three other friends to get big projects done.
The staff are unfailingly pleasant and communicative– a big plus when dealing with a subject that is unfamiliar to many of us. When my friend brought her car in for a big repair, they called her regularly with updates, which was much appreciated.
Highly recommend you check them out!

The people at Wayne’s are down to earth and very friendly. They’re willing to explain things to you and it seems like they’re truly looking out for your best interest. They’re honest with you about what needs to be done with your car and if it’s urgent or if it can wait. I’ve been there twice and I’ve loved my experience.
The only thing I can ding them on (haha! no pun intended) is that I had my car in the shop and was expecting a call after lunch about my car. I got no call and had to follow up myself. I learned that my car had been done for hours.
Other than that, they’ve been great!
