Sub Zero Ice Cream

Pretty cool way to get ice cream. Totally customized. You pick the base, the flavors, the mix ins. Fun evening with my kiddos. Apparently it’s a big hit with the college crowd. There’s always a line but it’s worth the wait.

This place ROCKS!!! Build the ice cream of your dreams! Be creative! The instant freezing of the liquid nitrogen makes the ice cream beyond smooth. It’s ruined us for other ice cream. Anything else seems gritty. Plus, if the flavor is too weak, they will just make you another!

Love it! I’m a bit nerdy, so I love the way they have you choose a cream type, syrup flavors, mix ins, and then BLAST it with Nitrogen! So much fun! Also, the dihydrogen monoxide they use to keep the ice cream from sticking to the bowl is pretty cool.

The first mix in used to be free but now it is not. When we brought that up to the employee she laughed at us for even thinking that it was that way before (I checked their menu online and it says that the first one is free so I’m not crazy). They may have changed it for that store but that was no way to treat a customer. Then the employee was super stingy on the mixin that we paid for and gave us only a couple slivers of almonds. It takes 15 minutes to go through a line that isn’t that long.
The ice cream is great but they’re skimpy and try to take every penny you’ve got.

Went in the middle of the afternoon hoping to avoid any kind of line, but failed. Three peeps ahead of us took 15 – 20 minutes total to process. I felt bad for the people behind my group of four. I think we took another 20 minutes .
Most of the problem was that they had one single girl working there doing everything, and folks kept coming nonstop. How can she clean tables, restock toppings, and manage a whole shop PLUS make the ice cream? Get with it, owners.
However the ice cream is fine, and in large quantities. Really a kid’s cup is plenty. Lots of interesting flavors, too. Just ensuring they had 2 people there today would have probably bumped my review up to 5.

There website says they are open until 10:30pm we got there at 10:02 and they told us they were closed. They would not serve us even though they were already serving several others. When we mentioned that their website says 10:30 they just said yeah we should probably fix it, but were very unfriendly about it. Get your website updated or honor what it says!!!

Not worth the wait. A few reviews saying it’s just as fast as cold stone. Sure if there’s only one person… But the second you get a line it backs up really quick, plus it honestly not that great anyway. It cool
If you have kids I guess but if you just want some ice cream… Don’t… Plus some of the workers have poor customer service :(I hate to say it but it’s true.

They get five stars. I took my little sister in law here and it was totally fun for her. The experience is really great and they have a ton of flavors that taste great. I got the piña colada and it was great.

Sub Zero has come so far from the days that they were pumping liquid nitrogen into the bowl of ice cream straight from the tank behind the tiny counter in a space they shared with a Mexican restaurant. This ice cream shop is awesome. The decorations are cool (no pun intended), the liquid nitrogen stations are super futuristic, and I want a souvenir t-​shirt.
The ice cream is and always has been delicious. You have several options up front. Do you want a cream base or something less fattening? What flavors or add ins? Then, they freeze it before your very eyes. The members in our party all ordered small sizes but ended up with almost more ice cream than we could eat. It was so cold that we had to give it time to warm up a little before we could eat it! I ordered a Chocolate Conduction, which was basically chocolate on top of chocolate on top of chocolate. Just how I like it.
If you haven’t been to Sub Zero yet, what are you waiting for??? It’s a proven fact: science + ice cream = a perfect evening out.

Awesome concept! I remember making nitrogen ice cream back in chemistry lab, but sub zero makes it look cooler.
For those who are counting cals or just trying to be healthy when it comes to desserts, I suggest you checkout their website first! It has all the nutritional info for their menu items :) Anyway it’s really simple, you choose the size, ice cream base, flavors/​mix-​ins. TIP: the first mix-​in is free!
I love that you get to experiment with how your ice cream will come out. We came when they were about to close, but the workers still welcomed us in. We told them it was our first time at an ice cream place like this and they broke everything down for us. There are soooo many different flavors here & lil ol’ indecisive me took forever, but the workers were so patient! Anyway, the bases are awesome, you can get full fat milk, low fat, yogurt, soy, etc
The consistency wasn’t super creamy like regular ice cream, it was sort of a bit more on the icy side, but that’s probably because I got the nonfat-​milk. My bf’s was better w/​full fat milk. Overall great place to grab late night ice cream for out of towners like us.

The husband and I tried subzero tonight for the first time… I was pleasantly surprised and plan a return in the near future. The staff was friendly and the custard was delicious! I can’t wait to try another combination!

I LOVE subzero! I take my sisters out to ice-​cream way to much under the pretense that it’s all about them, but really it’s mostly for the little girl in me that loves cream that’s frozen so fast no other ice-​cream can beat it… love all the flavor choices and having the option of different bases… heavy cream for the days I’m feeling naughty and yogurt base for the days I want to be a good girl… custard seems to be my most common choice (what kind I say I’m a balanced person).

Better ice cream and a bigger servings than Cold Stone. If you want to grab ice cream with a date, this should be your place. The make it up right in front of you so you can decide the fat content. I prefer lots of fat, but discovered that the custard is tastier than the premium ice cream, even though it has a lower fat content. I think it may have eggs in it or something.

The ice cream is pretty good but don’t get anything with sprinkles, the liquid nitrogen makes them brittle and gross.

Really deserves 2 Stars, but the guy was nice enough so bumped up to 3 Stars.
My friend and I decided to come in for an ice cream break shortly after our hike. This was the 2^nd nitrogen ice cream place that I’ve been to in Utah. The sizes they offer are huge. I opted for the kids-​yogurt-​oreos. The guy making my ice cream didn’t look like he wanted to be there. It was fun to watch him make it. I’m just so fascinated by the nitrogen gas.
After he made my ice cream, the guy disappeared to the back room. One bite into my yogurt oreos and I just made this face. It tasted DISGUSTING! I gave my friend a taste, and she agreed– it was GROSS! I called the guy back, told him it tasted gross, tossed it in the trash, and I proceeded to make another one. Kids-​premium-​oreos. It tasted just fine, BUT the premium is made of whole milk and I haven’t had whole milk in my body in years, so my stomach just wasn’t feeling that great. It made me feel like a lactose intolerant person. The guy didn’t make me pay for the redo ice cream, so that was nice of him= extra star. (I like Nitro Freeze in Salt Lake City a lot more than this establishment.)

Dear Sub Zero,
Thank you for your contribution to ice cream advancement. Your futuristic way of making ice cream and allowing your patrons to choose their flavors and type or dairy (or non-​dairy) product is fascinating. Your selection of toppings is enough to fill all my dreams. When I ordered my giant, creamy honey-​flavored ice cream it was more than I could ever ask for. You can count your stars I will be back.

This is taking mix-​n-​match to a new level. The process is interesting, and I would bring friends here for that alone. A returning visit would depend on your own «creation» basically.
You can select the type of base cream used: Soy/​Rice Milk, Yoghurt, Custard, Premuim, etc. There are different fat percentage in each so depending on what you prefer, you can either go low fat, creamier or something in between.
Then you select which flavour you’d like among over 20 options.
After that, you choose the mix-​ins you want with it.
I personally picked the piña colada ice cream with custard base and coconut shreds as mix-​in. Absolutely delicious!
The strength in this creamery is definitely the endless combinations available. If you’re not fond of the usual low fat ice cream flavour options, hey now you can make your own combo of low fat ice cream. :)

Delicious Ice Cream, even without the liquid nitrogen. This is a great place to take anyone who hasn’t been before because all the smoke & freezing of cream will wow them. This is also a place to go back to because the ice cream is really quite delicious.
I always get one of two flavor combinations, all using the fattiest cream available. First combo: Dutch honey, graham crackers, & cinnamon. Second Combo: Dark chocolate sauce, almond slivers, and coconut shreds.

This place is pretty cool, literally. An Orem chemist started this place and the unique thing is that he is using liquid nitrogen to make ice cream for you, right there in front of you. You can choose your base (low fat, regular, custard, yogurt and soy milk) and then you choose your mix ins, then your texture. I chose custard base, coconut flavor, with almond joy mix ins. I watched as he took this milky mixture and chunky mixture and sprayed liquid nitrogen and ‘froze’ it, right on the spot. The silver bowl he mixed it in had white fog flowing from it, Wow! And the results were delicious. My friend chose strawberries and cream. Both were delicious! This is so much fun to watch, and each ice cream is madejust for you, individually in a big silver bowl. The flavor combinations are infinite. I will definitely return.
