History

Established in 1938.

In 1938 enough support was garnered within the community to start a public library on an institutional level. First ran as a pilot program of sorts, the City of Pryor sponsored the Pryor City of Commerce to start a free, public library as a project. The project was a success and in about a year the City voted and provided codification for a real, bonefide public library.

The Pryor Public Library was housed on the second floor of City Hall. Within a few years, the library would be housed in the Graham Community Building. Finally, after generous contributions from Thomas J. Harrison, the Pryor Public Library found itself housed within the building we all know and love today.
