We are a professional tanning salon with over 25 years in the tanning industry. We specialize in tanning people in a non-​burning manner. We are a family owned and operated business and are Smart Tan certified. We also offer custom spray tans with a certifed «Master Spray Technician» for people who choose not to use UV beds. Seen as one of the cleanest tanning facilities around, we take pride in our knowledge, our certifications, and our selections that are available. Certifications are not a requirement in our industry, however, we are proud of ours and post them for anyone to see as we believe in continuing education to stay on top of the latest trends and procedures out there.

Established in 2008.

Having worked in the tanning industry for many years I started researching what it would take to open my own salon. I was disenchanted with many of the salons that are out there as they are usually not very clean and the staff not very knowledgable. I saw that there was a need for a professionally run tanning salon that the owners are not absentee owners and take pride in their knowledge and keeping updated with the industry. We opened our salon in March 2008 and have been steadily growing since then. We work towards remaining as educated as possible to be the best we can be for our clients.

I have been in the tanning industry for 23 years and absolutely love it! I decided that I would love to own my own salon about 7 years ago. After researching the industry further Linda, My business partner/​mother, opened our first tanning salon. We both hold a Smart Tan certification since 2005. I also hold a certificate through Set-​n-​Me-​Free for the herbal body wraps since 1995. And finally, during the Tanning Expo in June 2010 I got my «Master Spray Tan Technician» certification. I am a big believer in being as educated as I can be for my clients piece of mind and to remain as up to date as I can possibly be in this ever changing industry.

THIS IS THE PLACE! My very fair skinned daughter was running in a state pageant. All previous spray tanning experiences, even sprays done by hand, left my daughter some shade of orange. We were hesitant to say the least but she «needed» a tan. I was referred to Bare Necessities Tanning Salon by a friend. Michelle, one of the owners, did not disappoint! My daughter and I could not believe the results! A beautiful, glowing, and perfect tan was achieved! The pageant judges must have noticed as well as she was crowned IJM Miss Washington Teen 2015!

I came here for a professional airbrush tan. I had a wedding the next day so I had to time my tan perfectly for that fresh golden look. Since I had flown into the northwest from San Diego, I didn’t know which was the best place to go. I found this spot on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. The lady that I dealt with was a little gruff, but pleasant enough.
The salon is very nice and it’s in a new, modern plaza. I was impressed by the product she used – she explained that the Norvell tanning solution has less sugar in it than most, so it’s not «sticky» like airbrush tanning usually is. (Anyone that’s ever had an airbrush tan can attest to the nasty sticky feeling that pervades all day afterwards.) I also liked that it didn’t have a lot of dye, so I didn’t have that weird first-​day streakiness.
However, after the tan developed I thought, «This is what passes for a tan around here?» I was not very dark– if anything I was an odd golden hue. Granted, that’s better than being overly tanned, but it was still a disappointment.
If I lived there, I would try going there again, and tell her to go a little heavier on the tan. That might bump my rating up. However, based purely on my results this time, I would give it 2 stars. Because the place seemed high quality and my experience was otherwise good, I give it a 3.

Looking for a natural tan — without the sun? This was a wonderfully professional place to get a spray tan. Very knowledgeable and thorough. Had a wedding the next day and I had that perfect summer glow. The owner was so nice and informative and made me feel comfortable from start to finish. From out of town so it was a gamble but it paid off in spades and I would recommend this business for anyone looking for a great, natural spray tan.

Best tanning salon ever SERIOUSLY! I have been tanning for years at so many different places and this place is the best. Other places beds suck compared to their beds. I have never been in such good beds where I can never go the full time and achieve such great color. This place is VERY AFFORDABLE!!! I go in the gold bed (like a level 3 at other salons) for only 40 $ a month unlimited. Their beds are so good I can’t stress that enough! They don’t try to sell you crap and try to trick you and talk you into into paying a bunch of money for some crazy package like other places do. You can get membership monthly unlimited packages or pay per tan I believe. It’s simple and I never have to wait. Great equipment, prices, very clean, and nice people! Seriously tan here. Oh and they have little candies on the pillow on your tanning bed!

Linda did not make feel uncomfortable, but basically, I was standing naked in front of her and she made little effort to engage in conversation, which was extremely awkward. When I told her the desired color, which was dark (I am an experienced spray/​fake tanner), her reply was, «You are a walking advertisment, and I’m not going to make you look unnatrally dark.» Which is great if you are a spray tan beginner. However, I am not, and I am paying for this service. If I want to be dark, please listen, and do it. I may be a «walking advertisment,» but I am also a paying customer, and I will be telling others about my experience here. I did not feel listened to, and I felt Linda was very condescending. At one point, when I expressed my want for a personal spray tan machine, Linda told me it was «illegal, and legal authorities would confiscate it.» Okay! There were several other things she also said that were absolutely unfounded, one about the «black market» and spray tans. Due to the very poor customer service, this was not a pleasant experience, and I will not be returning or reccomending this salon to others.

If I could give this rating more than 5 stars, I would! My tan is amazing! I’m as white as you can get out here in WA and this was my first experience with a sunless (airbrush) tan. The process was great from the get go. She explains everything to you and makes you very comfortable while performing the service. The next day after my shower, it was a shock for me because I was so tanned but EVERYONE at my work (I work in a large, well known salon) thought my tan was amazing and natural looking. I kept getting asked if I went of vacation, lol! There was no streaking or blotchy patches. I did purchase the tanning moisturizer and it has kept me glowing. I’m looking forward to keeping this up, I’m pretty sure I’m addicted now. I just want to add to make sure you ask for Michelle. I believe she works in the evening.

This place is great! I came here looking for a non-​chain tanning salon hoping to find more flexibility as far as packages go and this tanning salon has it all! There are lots of different options to fit your budget, and you don’t have to (but can) sign up for a membership like a lot of the chain places try to make you do. I have worked at a couple different tanning salons in the past and can say it is always clean and the beds are super nice. And a plus-​they already remember my name after a couple weeks! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get some color :)

Very disappointed!!! I went inside to ask questions about their airbrush tanning and the lady was so rude to me. Did not even get to try the airbrush because I walked out. I was so shocked and angry at the woman’s horrible customer service. No way would I ever even try to go back.

I came upon this wonderful little gem after receiving a horrible spray tan from a Puyallup salon. I had received a spray tan and then got caught in the rain, the Puyallup salon told me to apply lotion and I should be fine… I was a hot mess! I called Bare Necessities at 7 pm on a Friday night, I explained my situation and she told me to come on down and she would get me looking fabulous. After scrubbing off the messed up tan, I ran downtown to bare necessities and received a gorgeous spray tan. It was fabulous and the environment was so comfortable. I my skin looked great with even color for the wedding and I am now a loyal client. This is the best place to get your spray tan done!

the establishment was clean (I only observed the reception area and spray tan room) and well-​organized; the receptionists and owner were very pleasant. my disappointment is because of a lack of honesty on the part of all with whom I spoke — I have age spots and was concerned that they would become more obvious with the spray tan — mentioned this concern on several occasions, to everyone to whom I spoke while setting the appointment. I mentioned this concern again when I arrived for my appointment — to the receptionist and the owner — mentioned that I did NOT want to look like a spotted leopard. I was assured that the spray tan would ‘even out” the spots. when I woke up in the morning, my worst fears had been realized — I did, indeed, resemble a spotted leopard — every age spot was at least three times darker than before the spray tan and three times darker than the ‘tan.’ so, my suggestion would be — if you have age spots (and maybe even freckles), the spray tan will only darken them and make them more obvious. The spray tan lasted less than a week — except for the age spots, which are still VERY dark and obvious.

Just left the salon and am so excited with my immediate results. Was searching for a professional when it came to getting an airbrushed tan I definately found it with Bare Necessities. Although I dont regularly tan I have experienced the stand up spray booths and am never truly satisfied. I always leave with streaks or missing spots of tanning. With my formal event coming up I wanted to look as good as I could. With just ½ in this process I am already happy with the results. Michelle is professional and talked me through every step. I went here tonight for an airbrush tan and it is beautiful! The technician was extremely professional and sweet and did a great job. She asked all the right questions to make sure she gave me the perfect tan. The rooms are very clean. I will definitely be back for all my airbrush tans. Simply the best!

I started going to this tanning salon due to a Groupon they had a while back for 2 airbrush tans. The first airbrush tan I went in for was a few days before my wedding in Hawaii. I was nervous as I have never had one before and Linda put me at ease. The tan looked wonderful. I got many compliments on my skin while in Hawaii. It lasted 2 – 3 weeks which was a surprise since I was constantly in the water and in a humid climate.
I went in yesterday for the second tan and was not disappointed. Linda’s daughter (I didn’t catch her name) airbrushed me this time. She was detailed and made sure to get have little spot that gets forgotten. It looks wonderful! I’ll be back for my spray tan needs!
