Great place for New Year’s Eve, Cosmos, and Pizzas. Gerry’s the man!

This is a no-​questions-​asked establishment located in the sub-​cockle region of Quincy Center. The owner used to be my science teacher back in middle school, so there’s a general sense of nostalgia that anyone from the South or West Quincy area can feel when pounding beers and playing a game of pool at this bar.
If you’re looking for some cheap beers and a possible Umbro jacket sighting, this is your spot.

Went in here for the first time on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend for beer and some pizza. Our first choice was Alumni, but they were closed for construction .
We sat down at the bar and ordered some beer while we looked at the menu. Someone had taken a pencil and changed all the words to say lewd things which was actually pretty amusing. The whole time the female bartender eaves-​dropped on our conversation since the place was pretty empty and quiet, and kept commenting after everything I said to my boyfriend to the point where it felt invasive. She let me sample a beer which was nice. We ordered a pizza to split: half cheese and half buffalo chicken. The bartender brought us plates that were visibly dirty and when she noticed she didn’t offer to get new ones but grabbed a paper napkin and gave the plate a little sweep essentially doing nothing. The pizza took forever to come out and when it did it looked and tasted like a frozen pizza. The buffalo chicken half looked like someone dumped a barrel of buffalo sauce on it, but the cheese side was bearable. We finished it between us since we were both starving. I asked for a side of ceasar dressing to dip my crust, and the bartender brought over a ramekin of the nastiest looking substance ever, and explained the ceasar dressing was new and maybe she didn’t shake it enough and that it had separated pretty badly, and without offering an alternative or solution, she set the disgusting mixture down and walked away while I just stared in horror. After this we asked for the check at which point the bartender came over and informed us nonchalantly that the restaurant’s pizza oven was broken. and that she wasn’t sure how good the pizza was that day. Did I mention this was after she served us the pizza that she was admittedly «not sure» about? That comment pretty much put the cherry on top of the most depressing meal I’ve ever paid for.

Great little chill bar to play pool, watch a game, play darts, etc. The owner is always there. Great place to grab beers and bar pizza!

Nice little bar. Trashy but solid. Good jukebox and good food.

My boyfriend and I frequent this bar a lot; mainly because 1) it’s cheap, 2) it’s kind of like going «home» with the friendly staff and low key atmosphere, and 3) the owner is my old middle school science teacher. Jerry, the owner, is always there making sure that the customers are happy and doing what he can to make the Rail a great place to be. The drinks are ridiculously cheap, as is the pizza. Some of the best bar pizza around. Side note– the man who makes the pizza at Montilio’s now makes the pizza at the rail weekend nights! Overall, this bar is tucked away on a side street in Quincy Center, but in the midst of the generic «Quincy bars», this is probably my first choice every weekend!

I give this place 2 stars; 1 for Kareoke on Thursday nights and 1 for decent prices. There is a pool table and a dart board available, and this place is never crowded… meaning you won’t wait long to get a drink. That’s about the extent of the positives I can list.
I’ve been here a few times and can say there was really nothing too memorable about each experience.
We went here for my boyfriends birthday a few months ago and I vowed that would be my last visit. Our party came in around 7:30/8PM and we wanted to order some food for dinner. When I asked the bartender, I was told to ask the cook myself. The cook complained he had played three softball games earlier in the day and he was sore and exhausted. He told us flat out that he didn’t «feel» like making our pizzas and a burger. Seriously? The whole purpose of your job is to cook food for your patrons. Hey, I feel your pain, man but if you’re that tuckered out, maybe you should call in next time. We left the bar shortly thereafter.
Take your business somewhere where it is appreciated.

I come here because it is never crowded and the dart board is always available. The bartenders are nice enough and the patrons ignore you completely if they don’t know you. Beer isn’t any cheaper here than anywhere else. I’ve seen people eating bar pizzas here that didn’t look great but smelled cheesy and salty and really good to my alcohol-​seasoned senses.
This is a good divey place to stop in for some darts or pool if you’ve just eaten someplace nearby and don’t feel like going home yet. It has become a regular stop on our quincy center crawl.

Excellent Pizza. Low prices on the food. The Beers at $ 4.25 were priced normally. I really liked it, so did my friend. We’ll go back very soon. Did I mention the Excellent Pizza? Also, it is not a swanky joint or a pick up joint. It is a local pub with local people doing normal things. Well worth a visit if you are in town.
