Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Waited forever, only to see another car shooed in ahead of us. Complained, only to have the guy respond so aggressively it made our baby cry. Same guy managed to spew oil everywhere, then had the cheek to tell us off for being angry! Clowns

Very good experience. Higor was the service tech. Very personable, polite, attentive and speedy. Knowledge and kind, efficient and overall Excellent experience.

I went to another establishment and it turns out that the more expensive oil that was forced on me here, «semi-​sythetic», is in fact NOT required by warranty (it is «recommended»), and that it is well known that such requirements are imprinted upon the oil cap.
All done here.
ADDITIONAL OBSERVATION ADDED 9 SEPT 2014:
As Corporate has posted a comment to this review, let me be clear that the issue of what oil was REQUIRED for the warranty was brought up on more than one visit, and they INSISTED that semi synthetic was MANDATORY.
They said this while waving their fingers at the computer monitor. Thus, either the information being provided to them by the software is incorrect, or they are choosing to ignore it, either way I got hosed at every oil change I did to this vehicle since I bought it and I do not understand how the information on the engine cap was not understood.

I just bought a used car and needed to get at least an oil change. I took to these guys because I figured I would drive in and get the oil changed and drive out. I pulled in there and the guy first tried to up sell me on the higher priced oil change, which wasn’t a problem, how he presented it kind of was.
He goes «The last person who owned this was getting the next gen oil (or whatever the better one was). But it looks like before they sold the car they just did the conventional, they probably did this because they knew they were selling the car.»
The problem I have is that a. I know the person who sold me the car and they didn’t plan on selling the car until about 2 weeks prior when they decided to take a job in Nevada. Although I am cool with assumptions the biggest issue I had was that on the history which I could see on the computer, the person was using conventional oil for about 6 oil changes that she got there, then there was one time that she used the higher brand. My issue is I have a problem with people bs’ing me.
Then the guy tells me I need to pay $ 100 and whatever to take care of the coolant. And I need to get the transmission fluid flushed. He goes «take a look at the coolant levels, the reservoir is practically empty. Which from the look from above it looks kind of empty. So I go no thanks, I will take it to my buddy and we can do it for a much cheaper price (plus I already had ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ coolant at home). I took the car to my buddy after and said the coolant needs to be taken care of. He looks at it and goes no it doesn’t. It is only suppose to be filled up to the line, which the line that said max had coolant up to it. 2^nd bs’ing that I am kind of like, the guy was trying to screw me.
So we get to paying and it is about $ 60 or $ 70. I pull out a $ 100 bill because I recently bought the car so had taken enough money out to get everything taken care of. He looks at me and laughs and as he walks away from the window he goes «I don’t have change for that!» And that was it… Then I hear him talking on the other side of the bay saying «You’re going to have to go to Dunkin Donuts and get change or something. But I don’t have change for that!» Is money what makes this business run? Shouldn’t you have change?
So where he walked was to another computer where he had a donut waiting for him from DD. I go «well I guess I will put it on my card». Which I was trying to avoid! He goes okay, we take cards. Then proceeds to use my card while eating a donut. I know to most it isn’t a big deal but I don’t want some dudes sticky fingers from his donut on my card. It was just the most unreal experience I have ever had getting anything done to my car. There is a 100% guarantee that I will never go back to that place. I can find all around better places where I can get my car taken care of. My girlfriend and I thought it would be easier so instead of going to a Mom and Pop place, we figured get it done quickly there. Next time I will either get it done by my house or if I am in Quincy use Unilocal and find a better rated place.

Just had a weird experience here today! I will say the the first time I went here it was fine.
There was a mentally challenged man roaming around inside the shop and he came up to my window. He was trying to get my attention so I rolled the window down and talked to him for a minute. He was very friendly but I don’t understand why he was just going around and talking to the people getting their oil changed! It was so strange. Next, the guy told me next time to make sure I come back when my oil is at 15%, and then he reset the oil meter. This was fine and he closed my hood and it seemed I was all done. He proceeded to just leave in a car with his girlfriend (I heard the other men saying it was his gf). So then I sat there for a few minutes just waiting. Soon someone came over to me and said «did he reset your oil gage?» I said yes and he walked away and said ok. Then I sat there for another 5 – 10 mins and some other guy came over and asked the same question! I said «yes what is going on? Am I done or what?» He said yup your all set and finally opened the door for me so I could leave. Moral is, the first guy just totally left me sitting there when I was all done, and clearly didn’t ask anyone else to finish up my service. It’s not at all cheap to go to valvoline so I expect a lot better service! I’ll probably only go back in a pinch.

I have been to this location of few times since moving to the area and I must say I wont go anywhere else. I’m always in and out within minutes. All employees I have encountered have been friendly and pleasant with smiles on their face. As for the up selling I have never had an issue or felt it was «too much» in my experience. Honestly all they have ever tried to «up sell» was an air filter that they showed me was black and nasty and clearly needed to be replaced. After my first visit I was sent out of there with a booklet of coupons for oil changes and other services which I thought was great because who doesn’t like to save a buck here and there.

My second time at this location. The manager was extremely friendly and Funny as he was last time. They didn’t try to upsell me anything this time. No one else was there so I was in and out in a 10 minutes. Very convenient location as well.

I went for the first time today to get an oil change for my Mustang. Valvoline does a great job of tracking when your car needs various services (e.g. power steering every 30k). It just so happened for me I needed an oil change (6qts of the good stuff), new wiper blades, power steering fluid, transmission fluid and transmission lubricant… which brings me to why Valvoline only gets the 3: the price. I dropped $ 400+ even with coupons. The service was great. When I gave the mechanic a skeptical look about needing the transmission lubricant, he actually took me down to show we where the rear differential was leaking and how it was only leaking on the rear passenger axle. I’ve never gotten that kind of hands-​on service at ANY auto shop, independent or franchise.
It also took a while, which was due in part to the manager do an extra check on everything since I’d dropped so much money.
The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. I will continue to go to Valvoline… I just wish they’d be as nice to my wallet as they are to my car.

I know upsells are a part of the instant oil change business, but at Valvoline it’s just too much. The manager is friendly enough, but every time I’ve gone (several) it’s the same song. He tries to use fear to sell you on various services, filters, replacement parts, etc. He’ll say things like, «you don’t want your baby (after noticing the car seat) breathing dirty air», or various reasons why the $ 99 service they are trying to sell me today will save me many hundreds later. I don’t mind being offered an upsell, but save the scary stories.

This place is really great!!!

Never again. I always go to Valvoline for my oil changes, but this was my first visit to the Quincy location. There was nothing «instant» about my oil change, in fact, I didn’t even end up getting an oil change at all. When I arrived there was an open bay, so I pulled up in that lane… and waited. After about 5 minutes, another car arrived and pulled up to one of the doors of another bay (which already had a car in it). We both sat there for about 10 more minutes before anyone opened the doors for us. Instead of letting me in to the vacant bay, they made me move over a lane– no big deal. I pull in and proceed to wait for another 10 – 15 minutes before anyone acknowledges me. Finally someone comes over and says, «It’s gonna be awhile.» I asked how long, and he said at least another 20 minutes. I needed to get to a meeting, so I decided to leave at that point… feeling very disgruntled about wasting my time.

I just visited the valvoline in Quincy and was assisted by Tyrone, the manager. I stopped in because my dealership put too much oil in my car and got an emergency light in my car. He was extremely friendly as helpful, fixed my problem and gave me some great advice. He also didn’t try to force me on up sells which I appreciated since I had just had my car serviced. I just wanted to let you know we were very happy with hi help and he is a great employee for your company. We are now going to visit valvoline for our oil changes in the future. Thank you!

I have a wickid fishy feeling every time I go here for an oil change. The manager seems incredibly nice, but almost too nice.
As he’s talking me through the upsells with his handy dandy laminated book (because apparently I need pictures to «get it»), he starts talking about the rear differentials. Now as he’s talking about how my car – at my mileage – should have the differential magnets «examined», suddenly the mechanic under my car says «THEY ARE BAD». The manager, «Did you hear that? My guy says they are bad». It was on queue and recommended they should be replaced for $ 49 a pop. Oh boy, and if I didn’t get them replaced, Lord knows how much I would pay in the long run… Dun dun duuuunnn.
By the end of my oil change with a new air filter (which cost me $ 55 with a coupon) I was also recommended a transmission flush, radiator flush and all four new differential magnets. I know I received a transmission flush less than a year ago and I’m not saying the rest is just BS… The manager really *seems* like a good guy and I want to like him, but ultimately I left feeling I wasn’t treated honestly :(

yeah, i will never go back to these guys. i’ve been going to them for almost two years. they’re super friendly and seem knowledgable. but somehow, some way, someTHING is always wrong with my car when i leave. my last straw was this last time when my power steering blew literally 2 seconds after pulling out. so i pulled right back in only for them to tell me that an oil change has nothing to do with the power steering blah blah. and that maybe i needed gas? really? well sir, it seems ironic that my car was completely fine up until leaving your place. $ 300 later (from another service station) the problem was fixed. was it their fault? not sure. but my sister’s ac stopped running after she left this place last time too. coincidence? maybe. but i’m not taking the chance.

Stay away from this place!
I drive a older car that burns oil, so the free top off service was my sticking point. Even at the price of $ 10 more than any one else for a oil change. The last one was $ 50…
The breaking point was today. My cars low oil light is on, I stop by on my way home from work, 10 minutes before they close. They refuse to help me. I explain that the low oil light is on and just need a quart or two, out of luck! Nothing is going to interfere with those guys getting out of work a few minutes early!
I was forced to go by some oil and put it in the car myself. The whole point of going to valvoline and over paying for a oil change was so i wouldnt have to do this!
This was the final straw with these guys. A month or two prior I stopped by for a top-​off (yes my car burns a lot of oil) and I asked that the power steering fluid be checked. I was told that it was fine.
I was having my brakes changed a couple of weeks later and was told that my power steering fluid was almost completely empty!
I couldnt believe it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt at first, but after this second performance I’m positive that they never bothered to check it. I mean why would the technician want to waste an extra 30 seconds working on my car…
All of this is on top of the hassle of having to listen to them try to sell you synthetic oil at twice the cost everytime i go in. I mean, if my car burns a quart every 700 miles, why would I want to buy more expensive oil?
Simple point, if you like your car and want to keep it running properly, stay away from this place!
