History
Established in 1951.
Kortendick Hardware was founded by Russell Kortendick Sr. in 1951. His first store was 2400sg ft at 1518 State Street in Racine.
In 1959 Mr. Kortendick moved his growing business to a new 10,000 sq foot retail building at 3301 Douglas Ave.
Mr. Kortendick purchased the current location property at 3806 Douglas Avenue in 1969. He built a 24,000 sq foot facility boasting of the most modern of retail progress such as, off street parking, air conditioning, shopping carts and YES, a fork lift.
Through the years the family has always strived to keep in time with the latest in retail growth. Todays Douglas Avenue location was expanded to 30,000 square feet, offering not only growth on the sales floor, and computerization, but department expansion in such areas as lumber, irrigation installation, propane and rentals and Kortendick Hardware remains Racine’s premier full service hardware store.
