For over 40 years, Radford Animal Hospital has specialized in compassionate, quality health care for pets all over the New River Valley. You can tell we are a little different because of the little things we do, like taking the time to know you and your pet’s names or just giving you a quick call to remind you of your next vaccination. History

Established in 1966.

Radford Animal Hospital was opened in the 60’s by Dr. James Harris. In the 1970’s it was sold to Dr. Debra Call. Dr. Mark Newman, dipl. ABVP has owned Radford Animal Hospital since 1997. We now serve small animals exclusively, although Dr. Newman started practicing veterinary medicine as a large animal veterinarian.

Dr. Newman is a New River Valley native who has been in practice for over 20 years. He is a graduate of the Virginia-​Maryland Regional Veterinary College at Virginia Tech. He also earned his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech. Dr. Newman is the only Canine/​Feline Diplomate certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in private practice in the New River Valley. There are only 10 A.B.V.P. Canine/​Feline Board Certified Specialists in the entire state of Virginia. Dr. Newman mastered a rigorous and demanding application process and certification examination in order to obtain Diplomate status. To qualify to sit for the extensive, two-​day examination, a veterinarian must complete either a residency program or six years of clinical veterinary practice. Dr. Newman has been an American Board of Veterinary Practitioners Board Certified Specialist for over 10 years. He is extremely skilled and serves our patients as a General Practitioner.
