hands down my favorite restaurant in the area. i always get the steak with onions and rice — the portion could feed a family for a week, and it’s like, $ 13. always cooked perfectly, always hits the spot. sabor peruano has the second best tostones i’ve ever had in my life, the first being my cuban grandma’s. but seriously, they are amazing. they don’t deliver but you can call ahead and pick up. it’s always packed for lunch during the week.

This place is a small restaurant you would pass by if you didn’t know it was there. The food was excellent and the people were very nice. I ordered the civeche and choufa mix they were great! fresh fish and the choufa was seasoned great. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Very good! Service was great and friendly. I had number 28 beef with fries, onions and tomatoes. Rice on the side. My father in law got the seafood. Everything was wonderful. Highly recommend this place for a Peruvian experience. Very reasonably priced. Serving sizes plentiful. The place is kind of a hole in the wall, which I find to often be the best places. Don’t go there if you’re looking for ambiance.

Went here last night for dinner with my hubby and toddler. This is definitely a Rahway gem. It’s a super small authentic mom and pop spot with amazing food. The décor is not fancy, with a few tables, but the beauty is in the amazing food, fresh ingredients, and service. My toddler cleaned his plate chowing down beans, rice, plantains, and calamari. We ordered an amazing seafood dish with shrimp, crab, calamari, yuca fish ANF a fresh tomato salad. We brought a bottle of red wine with us and dinner was awesome.

Sabor Peruano truly defines the definition of great Peruvian food at an affordable price. Prior to coming here, I had always ordered rotisserie chicken when visiting the Peruvian restaurant close to my home but decided to mix it up here. As per the recommendation of my buddy, I ordered the bistec a lo pobre which is a massive amount of food consisting of steak, fried eggs, rice, plantains, and french fries. I should probably stop typing now as that last sentence should be enough for you to stop what you are doing and drive to Sabor immediately but for those still reading, I will go on. I will paraphrase what Louis CK said about the Cinnabon when I say, it doesn’t matter what gender you are; when you are eating this plate full of food, you are a man in the moment. This dish alone is easily enough food for 2 – 3 people so be sure to come with an appetite. Overall, the prices are reasonable, the menu is large, and the quality of food is top notch. It can get a bit tight in here during lunch, so be sure to call ahead when you’re coming with a large group. We’ve called ahead a couple times, yet still had to wait about 15 minutes for our food once we arrived. It’s no fun waiting but be assured that once your food comes out, you will be eating like a king.

I had bookmarked Sabor Peruano a long time ago, so when the opportunity presented itself to eat there, I took it! The restaurant itself is quite small with only 7 tables inside. You could tell the clientele was local, ranging from the single guy coming off of work, to the couple having a date dinner to the family night out. We arrived with a bottle of wine and something had told me to bring an opener as well and I’m glad I did. The super pleasant waiter came by with 2 regular drinking glasses(hey, I ain’t fancy. A solo cup would have sufficed) but no opener. I ended up ordering the Bistec a la Pobre(poor man’s steak) and my significant other ordered a steak that came with a side of spinach pasta. My steak comes topped with 2 fried eggs, over rice and comes with fries. Double carbs! Double zzzz… My only complaint was the eggs were cooked over well done and I would have preferred a runny yolk. No biggie, now I know for the next time. People, come with appetites because these plates are friggen MONSTER. The fat girl inside of me pretty much clawed her way out and ate the entire plate. The waiter also comes with 2 different sauces, one hot, the other not and it just made the meal even better. Sooooo reasonably priced too, what a great place to come for a great meal at an even greater price.

Came in one day with a few coworkers. The portions were generous, the food was delicious, and the staff was welcoming. Ordered the ½ chicken, fries, arroz chaufa, plantains. Definitely would come back again! :)

The East Coast introduced me to this wonderful cuisine known as Peruvian food. And I love it! The best thing is that there are not just one, but two of them near where I live, and I couldn’t be happier =) I love all their seafood dishes! Period. Top of my list includes ceviche, seafood chowder, seafood fried rice and all other soups. The fish they use in their ceviche is so fresh, and the lime juice marinate just adds the refreshing touch to the dish. There’s potato on the side, I wish there’s more potato or rice or some other carbohydrate equivalent. It’s a huge portion of fish with a little side. Not complaining about the fish portion though, it’s amazing! The seafood broth they use to make their seafood chowder is amazingly rich in flavor. Not added flavor but seafood flavor. Love the combination of shrimps, mussels, crabs and scallops in the soup. It’s doubly good when taken with a side of rice. One small thing is there’s also a whole lot of cheese inside, which tends to make the soup too rich for my taste. My friends love it just the same, cheese or not, but I tend to avoid the cheese. Who can forget the green sauce? It’s amazing and goes with everything, especially the rice dishes. It has that spicy kick and cilantro flavor which I totally love. Just makes everything which is already good even better =) What draws me back is that they use really fresh seafood in their dishes. I kid you not. In fact, the seafood they use is even fresher than the seafood some of the restaurants in Boston use! The wait times for dine in are usually long. I think that’s because they are preparing your food fresh, and also they have huge take-out orders. The number of times I have been there, business for take-out has always been good. They sell volumes of food ~~ If you’re getting take-out best recommendation is to call ahead to place your order, saves a fair bit of waiting time in the restaurant. Not sure if the call ahead option is available for dine-in, or why we haven’t asked them about it all those times we were there, it will be great if it is!

This place is a serious hidden gem! The ceviche mixto has the freshest seafood and is seasoned perfectly. They ask if you want it spicy and I like it best mild. Call ahead of time if you are getting take out because it will be a wait!

Staff: One guy at the front. Not too friendly, not even sure if he smiled. It worked out well though, he gave me a tip on the food. Appearance: Mirrors all around really opens the place up. The bathroom is nestled in s tight spot, but clean. The place is actually really clean — I LOVETHAT. Food: Really good and portion size was huge. Two can eat from it

Sin palabras! WOW! Literally the name says it all Sabor = Flavor, that’s what this place is all about! My favorite is the arroz chaufa mixto, the chupe de mariscos, and lomo saltado. Enjoy the Peruvian soda Inca Cola and the delicious Chicha Morada. Yum yum yum. That’s all. Oh and get ready to take food home because the portions are monstrous!

Loved, loved, loved the food and the staff here. I enjoyed the mussel appetizer which was loaded with red onions, tomato, cilantro and lime juice. It was very close to a ceviche sauce and I used the leftover juice to flavor my entrée rice. I also had the Bistec with shrimp. Very flavorful! The steak was cooked to perfection. My husband had a rice dish that resembled a fried rice dish. The portion was enormous! He said is was very light and fluffy and filled with beef, chicken and veggies. I would have given them 4 stars but our entrees came out only after a few minutes of our appetizers being served. That’s a big pet peeve of mine, so next time I’ll ask them to pace it. Yeah, next time! The staff was sooo nice that I want to go back! The place is very small so get there early. Just after 6pm on a Saturday and we took the last table. You don’t go here for ambiance. You go here for the amazing food! It’s right across from the Union County Arts Center. Perfect for dinner/lunch and a show.

Loved this restaurant! I’ve lived in Rahway all my life, and it was my boyfriend from Hackensack that suggested we try it. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall place, but everyone was friendly and the food was delicious. We even had fun trying to follow along with the Spanish soaps playing at the time. The food was delicious. I got the arroz chaufa especial, which is a fried rice with chicken, beef, and shrimp. It was $ 15 and the portion was VERY generous. I didn’t think I’d finish it, but I couldn’t stop eating it because it was so good! We also got fried yuca on the side, which was also very good. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to someone who wants some delicious food!

I work less than a mile from here and ventured out for lunch the other day. We decided to go to for Peruvian and went to this little hole in the wall. The restaurant is really small and kind of divey(in a good way). The waitress came over and she was really nice and provided some recommendations when we asked. After a long decision process we ordered the Lomo Saltado(a beef dish) and the Arroz con Mariscos. The beef was quite good, but the Arroz con Mariscos was absolutely amazing! For those unfamiliar with Peruvian cuisine(like me), I would describe it kind of like a Peruvian paella. It also has this delicious yellow sauce that caused me to indulge a bit too much in. I cannot give a high enough endorsement for this dish. The prices are extremely reasonable and the serving size is huge. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is ever in the Rahway area. I definitely will be back to try some of the other dishes they have available.

Calamar was huge and delicious with the onion salad. Huancaina was spicy and rich the way it should be. Inca cola was good. Bathroom was clean. Great for lunch. BYOB. Would prefer tap water over bottled. Street park $ 1 hour.

It has been a long time since I’ve wanted to give a place a 5. This place is a 5ish… I think it just needs a liquor license and more space. The prices are a little up there, but for what you get? They could get away with being even higher. I went once, and then came back the next 3 days. What does that tell you? Huh? I can’t hear you. Speak up… I can’t hear you over how ****ing awesome the food is here. Look at the pictures I posted. Look at them. Now look at your stomach. Back at the pictures. Back to your stomach. Now look at your car keys. Bye.
