Homewood Nursery is a local independent garden center in Raleigh, NC committed to providing the highest quality plants and friendly, knowledgeable service. Don’t be fooled by the $ signs above as our prices are competitive with other local garden centers. We buy many plants from local growers and also grow our own annuals, herbs, perennials, and poinsettias. Enjoy a walk under the pines in our beautiful nursery department while you shop one of the area’s best selection of plants and an excellent selection of pottery and garden supplies. In spring, visit our greenhouses for a fantastic selection of Homewood-​grown annuals, herbs, and vegetables, and, in November, enjoy the stunning sight of over 30,000 Homewood-​grown poinsettias. You’ll also find tropicals and houseplants in our greenhouses year round. In our Indoor Lifestyles department, you’ll find home décor and gifts, and an amazing holiday shop in November and December.

History

Established in 1967.

In 1967, Bill Stoffregen built a 1900 square foot greenhouse in his backyard. Joined by his wife Peggy, Bill’s hobby soon grew into a full-​time business, and as he learned, «Quality plants sell.»

Homewood relocated in 1978 to its present site on Honeycutt Road. The nursery has since grown to over 80,000 square feet of greenhouses as well as adding a garden center and 1.5 acre nursery sales area. Homewood is recognized as a leader in the horticulture industry and has been featured in local, state, and national publications. Our unique combination of greenhouses, garden center/​indoor lifestyles, and outdoor nursery as well as high quality of service and plants are what continue the success of Homewood. As one industry expert put it, Homewood «is a classic family retailer/​grower/​garden center.» Greenhouse Grower magazine, in a feature on Homewood, once observed, «When customers turn in the driveway, they know they’re somewhere special at Homewood Nursery & Garden Center.»

Business Owner

Joe is the second generation owner, along with his parents and brother, of Homewood Nursery & Garden Center. He is a former president and director of the NC Association of Nurserymen and winner of the distinguished David E. Laird, Sr. Memorial Award for outstanding service to environmental horticulture, the Joseph W. Love Grower of the Year Award, and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from NC State’s Department of Horticulture.
