History
Established in 2014.
More than 35 years ago, Larry Martinek, creator of the Mathnasium Method™, was inspired to find a better way to teach math. As a teacher in public and private schools, as well as a father to a mathematically gifted son, Nic, Larry possessed a comprehensive view of math education. In his work with both stellar and struggling math programs, he identified a common theme in math instruction — a vast disconnect between students’ learning skills and the curriculum they were expected to master. Larry decided to find an approach that would provide students with the strong mathematical foundation they needed to succeed. The solution would be to identify students’ current skill levels and propel them forward by teaching them math in a
way that made sense to them.

Business Owner
Maggie received her Ph. D in Mathematics from the University of California, Irvine in 2008. She enjoyed teaching Calculus in graduate school and spent several summers leading laboratory for COSMOS (California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science), a program designed specifically for talented and motivated high school students in California. She then took a job in the Department of Mathematics at North Carolina State University. She has been teaching college level math for over six years and during that time she realized how much her students were struggling with math. Through years of interacting with her students, she discovered that the reason many of her students were lacking math skills was not because they’re not capable of learning math, but because they were not taught in a way that makes sense to them. As a daughter of a math professor, Maggie has always loved math and is dedicated to sharing this passion for math with every one of her students. She believes the custo
