The employee working here, PLAINRUDE! we had an AWFUL experience here. will not support a business like this. I’ve seen the same thing said about this place over and over and over on Facebook. apparently, the owner cares nothing about business.

This is not a huge store like Steven’s, but stars for organization and prices. Sections are well labelled, books are in excellent condition, and prices are very fair.

The Lady working here was kind and informative… If you are selling Your Books to them: : First they look at the Condition, then Need! If they do not need it you can take it to the Nearby Goodwill or be on the Country’s Next Greatest Hoarder show! This place is not as Charming as I hoped still it is a Used Book Store with a Huge Romance section!

I have to say, the employees here must not be excited to see new and potential customers walk in the door. There is no greeting of «Hello» or «Welcome» or anything of that nature when one walks in the door here. The employees keep their heads down and seem to avoid any social contact with the customers whatsoever. We did find a number of Nancy Drew books my daughter might like, but she decided she didn’t want them, and instead tried to opt for books that were below her reading level. Other than that, I can’t say the selection is very good here. Prices are very good, which must be the reason for the selection — good books are probably bought up pretty quickly.

It’s a sad sign of the times that I no longer visit this store, since receiving a kindle for Christmas, I’m getting everything electronically, and hopefully using less trees in the form of paper for physical books. It’s a shame that eBooks don’t have the same tokenized pass along/diminishing value, so I guess there is the monetary benefit, plus you can read a physical book for longer on the plane, especially in a ground takeoff queue(which I recall can be two hours in Philly on any Summer Friday evening). I’ve acquired some really nice books there, including: The complete works and plays of Shakespeare — Hardback A field guide to astrophotgraphy The Communist manifesto Lord of the flies Most of Douglas Adams’ works I generally wouldn’t expect the staff to be friendly or helpful, in-fact my wife thought the woman behind the counter was rude and unfriendly, but I went with a list, not a social mandate. A lot of the titles are the type of fluff that seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator, but if you hunt around and tilt your head to the side an awful lot, you should be able to eventually find something serendipitous. If I can get down on my «to read…» lists, then I might be back to peruse, Kindle be damned, but that list has to be over 50 titles long already. The Starbucks is nice and close to this place — it’s a relaxing thing to get a used book and a Coffee, unless it’s a Glenn Beck book, because then you’d probably already be foaming at the mouth, latte notwithstanding!

Being in MBA school means BOOKS. I knew about the Mr. Mike’s location in Cary and recently saw that there is a location closer to my neck of the woods in north Raleigh. So using my Unilocal app for the iPhone, I set off to find it… It’s hard to find because it’s off Capital Bd in a small shopping area which is not visible from the road. Without the name of one of the roads leading to it, I’d have never found it. Finally did and it’s laid out pretty much like the other Mr. Mike’s, but this location is a bit smaller. I didn’t find the exact book I was looking(with used books it’ll always be hit or miss) but I did find something similar that would work. When I went up front to check out at one of the two cash registers, the guy working behind the counter just kept pricing books with the price gun, then grabbed a stack and shelved them(leaving me standing at the counter) before coming back… He stopped at the other register and tapped his knuckles on the counter. Okaaaaaaay… Anyway, I’ll go back here to search for books for any reason, not just MBA school. The prices are simply too good, even beating Amazon with free shipping. But I like it when business owners(or their employees) treat customers like they’re…their customers supporting their business.
