Sumter Square Apartments

Definitely been doing better with the maintenance issues & returning phone calls, now being in February, it has been more pleasant living here. I can’t deal with places/​people that are quick to take your $ but not take care of you…, But so far now I can say it has been A Lot better maintained!!! Hope they keep it up:) & the blaming my dog for the pee in the breezeway & being chained up still makes me upset but I’m putting it in the past, hoping for a positive future here!

I’ve lived here for about 2 ½ years. When I first moved in, the property was great, the staff was superb and maintenance was on top of everything! We had family events, like movie in the park and back to school party and summer parties but.
Now…now it’s a joke! They’ve taken our rent money and redid the office for whatever reason and the staff is dwindled down to two people, so now no one returns your calls. Maintenance is either slacking or… slacking. The only maintenance person we call is Savoy.
This place has become crappie… They used to upgrade things in your apartment every time you renewed your rent, now you have to fight them… ugh… In the past I would recommend this place but now, I’m saying find a better place; don’t spend your money here.

Firstly, when I was looking to move in here, I was told that all of their 2 bedroom apartments include washer/​dryer connections. This is not the case. Some do, some do not, and I ended up in one that did not. Great, so I informed management of this. Can I transfer to an open 2 bedroom with W/​D connections? No. Wow.
I also quickly noticed that a lot of the people that live here… really aren’t the type of people you want to be neighbors with. Lots of taxi drivers that have extra cars that take a lot of the parking spots (not that parking was ever a big problem, just annoying sometimes). Not many living here speak English well, and the ones that do aren’t the types you want to have a conversation with.
Finally, the thing that really sent me over the edge. I was robbed after living here for about 9 months, due to a faulty standard back door lock (there is a deadbolt on the front door but not the back door… wtf). What blew my mind about this was that when I informed management, they seemed not only unsurprised but also unconcerned. Ahhh, so THIS is why they force you to get renter’s insurance! Not that it helped, I had over $ 2000 worth of property stolen and insurance gave me right around $ 1000, which was awful. At the very least they could’ve offered me a month of lower rent or ANYTHING to mitigate the problem, but they did not. All of this implied to me that robberies aren’t an uncommon occurrence in this community.
I know the place is cheaper than most options in Raleigh, but it just hasn’t been worth it considering all the trouble I’ve had. Stay away, paying a little more to live somewhere nicer, where management cares and you won’t get robbed, is worth every penny.

Poorly maintained… when you have a maintenance issue, for instance the HVAC does not work, you are out of luck. They have repeatedly been sarcastic with me because repairs were needed. The carpet was also filthy when I moved in, though I did not realize it until it was too late. Definitely do not recommend.
