The Bar Ber Shop

1^st off, let me say that the ONLY reason I am giving this place such an abominable score is due to the highly inflated pricing structure.
Now on to the nitty gritty. I had an event to attend Monday morning and noticed my head was lookin über rough when I happened to look at it Sunday morning while waking up. YIKES!!! How was I gonna find a barber shop in a town I don’t know that’s open on a SUNDAY!!!
I know!!! To tha Unilocal machine!!! After several search attempts & variations to ‘search wordings’, I came across the ‘Bar Ber Shop’. How cool… A barbershop w/​an actual bar!!! Cool idea… And it’s open on Sunday. SCORE!!!
Be forewarned, this little gem is hidden. When I say hidden, if u don’t know where you’re going, you’ll completely miss it. It’s behind a thicket of trees in the Walmart Shopping Center, to the farrrrr right. Good Luck. There isn’t even any signage at the entrance of the shopping center so you at least KNOW ur in the right plaza. I digress…
Now for the cut. This young dude sitting at the front desk said he could take me. Shoulda been flag #1. I follow him to his chair … Which happens to be the very last chair (my understanding is barber chairs are assigned in order or experience /​popularity) flag #2. All I wanted was a line/​edge-​up bc I don’t know this barber. I just wanted to look presentable. A line-​up should take no longer than 5 – 10 mins MAX. I ask him to simply taper right at my ears so at least it looks like a cut. That took about 5 mins… So why was I in his chair for 45 mins? Who knows… Flag #3. Then olé boy whipped out a post card and some spray and started spraying my head… Me: ‘Yoooo! WTF are u doin, dude’!!! Him: ‘I’m just applying a blah blah blah. It’ll fill ur head out’.
Me: ‘so it can look painted? No thanks. A) if u have to use a post card to apply a product, I don’t want it. B) if it doesn’t grow out of my scalp, I don’t want it added. Cool’?
Him: ‘Aight. I mean, I was just tryin to make u look younger’. (no, he di’nt)
Me: ‘young man, I’m 44 and ur in ur 20’s and I am more presentable than u at this very moment and I’m in sweats. Can we just finish this up’? He huffs and goes back to doing absolutely nothing on my head and we finish. Flags #4,5,6,7 & 8
Additionally, This ‘Bar Ber’ shop offered me no drink, either complimentary or for a fee… Not even water… But ur the «Bar Ber Shop» and that bar is part of ur cadre, right!!! Aight.
So, to recap, I sat in the chair, got an aight line up. My brother would have done a better job (but he was workin… SHOOT!!!). He started a process that I stopped and slightly taped by my ears, as asked. All-​in-​all, this is Raleigh and this should have been a $ 5 – 10 charge, at MOST. We get to the register and he says, ‘Cool. So that’s $ 20. Would u like to put ur tip on the card’?
**silent pause**
How much!!! Man, get me tha FUUUQ up outta here. Here’s ur tip… ‘learn a proper pricing structure and don’t assume a patron will be cool paying $ 20 when u didn’t touch ONE hair on his crown’ GTFOH w/​dat mess. I’m OUT!!!
I will say, however, the other barber working was doing an AMAZING JOB … In the FIRST chair (just sayin)… So don’t X this place off ur list just bc I got the ‘young buck’. As long as u get an experienced person, I think u might be quite pleased… I simply didn’t get that chance.

I like this place but barber are not into making money they are into their friends, what I mean is if they have a appointment they will wait a hour before and after just to do that appointment! So if you are in hurry please think about each barber waiting on a appointment with 5 barber who does that!

Just the right mix between old school sophistication and new school flare.
Bringing my oldest a in here for the first time for a line up, we were greeted warmly and checked in. Its bright and welcoming, clean, the waiting area has nice comfy chairs and they’ll offer you a soda or beer (21 and up).
Our barber came over introduced himself and did a great job. I wasn’t overly anxious to be done as there didn’t seem to be as much of the adult conversation going on like you’ll find at most shops. The wait was not overly long, and there was no line jumping because the barber was your friend.
Will be bring my youngest back for his first cut, when the time comes.

I am new to the area and finding a barber is usually quite a challenge. Thankfully, I did a lot of research before I stumbled across this shop. Tawon cut my hair and I am extremely satisfied. I will be returning for sure. The customer service was great. What I also appreciate is that my appt was at 3 and I sat in his chair about 2 minutes afterwards. I think it’s classy that all of the barbers were wearing bow ties.

The pro the shop is clean and friendly atmosphere. Great service was provided. Cons boys haircut was listed 10 I was charged 15 per child. 45 +15=60 (tips for each barber) I could understand 15 for my 10 and 8 year old but for my 4 year who didn’t complete his hair cut was ridiculous.

Took my son to get a cut… the atmosphere was amazing. Cool staff and children friendly! They are detailed and did an amazing job on my son’s haircut. The prices are really good as well.

I found these guys through Taji’s Natural Hair Salon, and I feel like I won! Reggie certainly put a lot of thought of the type of shop he wanted to run. It’s beautifully styled, with a deep blue paint job, cushy black waiting chairs and large, comfortable barber chairs. There is always a young person managing the appointments (yes, you have to make one) and he or she is very professional.
Not typical of most barbershops, I went there on a Saturday and (was late to my appointment), but I still didn’t have to wait very long. Tawon is my barber and usually I take a picture of what I want and he gives me exactly that, no more, no less. But let him get creative, he’s amazing.
Oh! They promote other Black businesses, with a wide assortment of natural hair and skin products ready for purchase.
The atmosphere is chill and fun! You can depend on hearing so good old school R&B and the guys are always laughing and joking with each other. It’s just a nice place to be.
I think everyone should come here!
