The Duck & Dumpling welcomes Chef James Yott Boyle as its new head chef, taking over the kitchen from Chef David Mao, who retired at the beginning of the year.
Chef James brings with him recipes handed down from his Thai mother and grandmother, who still cooks in a wok over an outdoor wood fire in a fishing village in Southern Thailand. Chef James masterfully preserves the traditions of his family, as well as The Duck’s, while infusing the recipes with his own modern style of Asian cooking.
History
Established in 2002.
Long before Fayetteville Street reopened and Hargett Street reawakened, The Duck & Dumpling was a favorite for busy executives at lunch, pre-theater crowds for dinner and romantic first dates that lingered until closing. The Duck was a catalyst for a new era of dining in downtown Raleigh in 2002 when Chef David Mao brought his contemporary spin on Chinese-Vietnamese home cooking. Now that Chef David has retired, his favorite recipes have been handed down to a new generation of Asian chef.
Chef James Yott Boyle has taken over in the kitchen, cooking not only The Duck favorites, but also his mother’s traditional Thai recipes that he’s tweaked with his own Asian style. With a new downtown, we hope you enjoy the new Duck & Dumpling.
