Another winery referred us to this place for good Syrah’s, which is my favorite. We pulled up and it was an outdoor wine setting with a big dog to greet you and a lovely staff ready to pour some wines!
I liked the fact that most of their red wines were bold, and the Syrah’s were absolutely delish! They were also reasonably priced — the bottle we bought (Syrah 2010 — mature oak) was $ 25.
The owner was very friendly and she even told us where we could buy a Julian apple pie at!
I definitely recommend adding this to your wine route! They’re one of the best wineries in the area.

Best RED’S around. If you like Syrah’s then you will be in heaven here. Hey a tasting and a great bottle to go for around $ 25 you can’t beat that. I will be back and will be spreading the je word!

Absolutely fantastic little patio with a great relaxing view. The owners were a treat themselves and ah yes, the wine was very good. I appreciated the scale of oak flavor and tart — would be hard not to find one that hits home. Cheers and thank you!

I’ve been to 100’s of wineries all over CA, OR and WA and I have to say their Petite Sirah is one of the best I’ve ever had!

Very good wine here, and a rustic but charming outside patio to sip it in. The owners were on hand, and we really enjoyed discussing the Ramona Valley wine scene with them.
Half of a star deducted because I agree with the poster below that they should adjust their tasting fees downwards when they’re pouring fewer wines. We had their Petite Sirah (particularly excellent) and Syrah, but they were out of their Cabernet (presumably because they’re a small producer and because it was probably really good). Nonetheless, I’m rounding back up to 5 stars because the overall experience and wines were very good and because I’d rather pay $ 8 for two good wines than $ 10 or $ 12 for a bunch of mediocre ones.

One taste of wine for $ 8? We stopped by here recently while wine tasting in Ramona. As we walked up to the tasting area which sits out in the middle of nowhere, the woman was polite and greeted us saying they only had one wine, a petite sirah to taste. We split a tasting. It was just average, nothing special about it. Went to pay for tasting one wine, and was charged $ 8. She said we could keep the glass, like we don’t have enough glasses from tasting rooms. To the winery: you should adjust your tasting prices according to how many wines you are tasting. Ramona is still far off from being Napa or Temecula. We won’t be coming back due to this experience.

I have been to many southern California wineries that were just plain awful. My wife and I often go up to Paso Robles to do wine tasting because of their quality. No. Edwards Cellars doesn’t have the posh tasting rooms that one would find in Temecula, but on the other hand their wines are as good as any I have tasted in Paso Robles, and it’s a lot closer. Like several other wineries in Ramona, Victor and Beth Edwards are interested in putting out quality wines, and they do an excellent job doing it. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes great red wines.

Wonderful petite syrah

I love this winery. It’s small and and charming, and is about the wine — not about party buses and souvenirs. It is a family owned and run business, and you can chat directly with the proprietors (lovely people) during a tasting. Their 2007 Syrah is one of my favorite wines of all time. (Not favorite Ramona wine, or favorite of the varietal — favorite period. It’s that good.)
If you are looking for a stop on a party bus tour, this may not be up to your expectations. The ‘tasting room’ is just a small covered patio up on the side of the hill with a bar and a couple of tables. But if you are coming to taste some incredible wine and to deepen your appreciation of the craft, this is definitely a must-​see place for you. It is quiet and peaceful and you can sit and discuss wine with the owners and fellow patrons while looking out over the grape vines. It’s the perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon.
I have nothing but great things to say except that I’m not there drinking the Syrah right now.

My husband and I stopped at Edwards a month ago after having visited another nearby Ramona winery — it was definitely worth the stop. Don’t be deceived by the lack of formal tasting room — it’s really a wine tasting stand just up the drive to the property, and in many ways, much more fun and enjoyable. There were just two wines to try and both were good — the everyday red and their Syrah (which they have sold out of — the Syrah that is). We purchased the everyday red. They have a small production with just three acres of vines on the property, but they are doing a great job with their wines.
Beth Edwards was there to do the tastings — she was a wealth of information re: wine growing and even gave us an impromptu lesson /​tour among the vines next to the tasting area. There were rolls from Dudley’s Bakery to eat between tastings (no charge for the bread). The tasting was $ 5 and we got to keep the glass. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely stop by again as more vintages become available.
This was the perfect reason why you never judge a winery by the opulence of a tasting room — the best wineries I have been to have been the most informal ones.
Edwards is located between Ramona and Santa Isabel, on the north side of the 78 almost across from Oasis Camel Dairy.
