History

Established in 1960.

Morgan Run Club & Resort is located in the heart of an area rich in heritage in the San Dieguito Valley, next to a subdivision of Rancho Santa Fe known as Whispering Palms, approximately 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. It was described as «an area of unlimited sunshine and tropical climate.»

In 1993, the name was changed to Morgan Run by Cobblestone Properties, who purchased the Club fromTed Vallas. Jay Moorish redesigned the North and South Courses in 1996.

In 1999, ClubCorp Inc., based in Dallas, Texas, purchased the property from Cobblestone Properties and turned it into a private club in November 1999. Since that time, Morgan Run Club & Resort has continually evolved as a private country club, a boutique hotel/​resort, a conference center and an exclusive destination location.

In 2013, ClubCorp completed a multi million dollar renovation to bring you the new and reinvented Morgan Run Club + Resort.

This was such a fun, beautiful place to stay. The hotel was very clean, and our room was beautiful, clean, and cozy. The staff were all friendly, and The food at restaurant was outstanding, with excellent service. We also hung out at the pool. Very nice place, we will be coming back. Thank you.

Over Priced, needs a remodel …
Came here for a weeding and I’m not impressed except for how much money they charge for everything as well as a room that has a toilet that overflows, air conditioner that was so loud that we couldn’t sleep or hear the TV that also had only one speaker and constantly went black screen off and on like it had a mind of its own, the shower head was encrusted with lime scale and the faucet was like puzzle getting it to actually turn on let alone get to a temperature that wouldn’t burn your skin, holes and scratches in the walls, a foot print on the ceiling, and spiders I mean spiders like you wouldn’t believe must have seen let alone killed about a dozen before it was lights out… no vending machines or room service after a certain time so it’s Tap water city from there on out unless one of the employees that is actually nice enough to let you know this valuable information, save your money and go to where there is no spiders and enough commodities that you won’t feel neglected or just plain ass’ed out… wouldn’t return if they comped me and yes I will be demanding my money back …

Not a bad golf course. Exceptionally flat and forgiving. Greens are nicely manicured. It’s a little unintuitive of which hole is the next.

Needed a ranger on this course. There was a single playing in front of the two of us and a 5 some playing in front of him for the 1st 9 holes, then one guy stopped. The single waited on every hole, did the five some let him play through? Of course not!!! I hate that selfish rudeness. Seemed like there were lots of guys hanging around the club house twiddling their thumbs.
Also the hot dog we bought after nine holes was terrible and the bun was stale. Hope they picked up fresh ones for the wkend.
On a positive note, the groundskeepers were very busy working hard.

I attended a private event and I am completely shocked how bad the food was. The chicken was completely cold, and so rubbery I could not cut it with a knife nor could I chew it. The service was at best, slow and spotty. I needed a menu accommodation due to a food allergy and they were not helpful on any level. I actually asked him what would you like me to do sit at the party and eat nothing? Other people had the same request but they were able to have their food accommodated. They finally did so for me after much persuasion, but I could not eat it anyway. This is a total no go for a party. The interior was nice but exterior of the building was dated and needed a facelift. Sad situation.

I brought my club here for a vacation and the facility was wonderful, however, the staff, particularly the tennis director did a terrible job of communicating with me and my players. I also contacted the head and got no satisfaction there. In general the amenities are great and the price is fine, but the general feeling except from one woman at the front desk was apathy from them toward us and that is enough for not returning.

I’m so incredibly disappointed. I came here to view the club as a potential wedding venue. Prior to booking a tour I always do a lot of research– looking at pictures, customer reviews, facebook, etc. I cannot believe they get away with this type of false advertising. Their «greens» were completely yellow. Dead grass everywhere. Their excuse? It’s winter. Ummm all of the other venues I went to had lush green grass just like the pictures they advertise. Why would I give a non refundable deposit to «hopefully» have green grass by my wedding month? I drove an hour out of my way and was out of there in less than 5 minutes. Don’t waste your time or money.

Not at all as described on the website. Grounds are lovely, restaurant looked nice but since we weren’t informed of the dress code at the time of the reservation we didn’t bring appropriate attire. There is no elevator so had to haul our suitcases and other bags down stairs from the parking lot and then upstairs to our room. The room smelled dank, furniture was stained and broken down, and the bed horribly uncomfortable! It was like a rock so couldn’t get comfortable and didn’t sleep well for 4 nights. Would not recommend at all.

We recently had our wedding here, and my wife and I were just blown away by the amenities and the venue. I can’t speak for her, but my groomsmen and I got ready in the moonlight room and this day was particularly hot, so the only qualm we had with the day was that we wish they would’ve pumped the AC up higher. Our Ceremony was perfect on the green, and the reception/​dinner was just fantastic. My beef dish was cooked perfectly, the service was on point, and Anna and Ania were with us every step of the way to make sure we had the best experience possible and we can’t thank them enough. Beautiful golf course with great resort on it.

If there was a 10 star it would be more fitting. The staff, hotel, food and every employee was the best. The overall venue was everything you need to make your special day complete. My daughters wedding came off without a hitch. The event coordinator and her staff did not miss a thing. Great job Ania and Anna you are so professional and covered things we never thought of. All of our guests made comments about all of the people that work there and how helpful and courteous they were. The Resort is beautiful, moonlight room, reception room, spa center, and so many beautiful photos ops. This is the place in San Diego for a weddings. Thanks to all of the staff for taking great care of our wedding event. Spa room pampers the guest and a must for any wedding. Thank you Morgan Run for a beautiful wedding day.

This review is based solely on the Morgan Run Summer Tennis Camp for Kids. New to the area I was happy to find that our club was offering summer camp sessions which can always be stressful and chaotic. The Morgan Run Tennis, Golf and Swim camp was a great experience for my son specifically because of one single instructor Josh. Josh taught my son, along with several other kids the fundamental basics of Golf and Tennis and then allowed them free time to play in the pool after. Every day my kid would wake up and be stoked to head to camp and see Josh and learn something new. I highly recommend any lesson he is teaching!

If you want the wedding of your dreams Morgan Run will execeed it! Our event coordinator Anna Williams was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. She created a BEO, or our wedding bible, if you’re OCD and like things completely organized she is your lady. If you’re not the most organized she’s still your lady, as she will lay every detail out on a timeline. Even with last minute changes while the wedding was going on Anna remained poised and would adjust things effortlessly. The whole team at Morgan Run was beyond helpful, polite and professional during the last eight months. They are very prompt to respond and treat you like you are the queen, after all you are you only get this day once. People told me to expect something to go wrong and know it will be OK, that id be the only one to notice… Our wedding played out to perfection without a single mistake. Anna was in contact with all our vendors through the entire process. The day of, it was so awesome to know everything was going well and she would even come check in to make sure we were happy. We were escorted with our photographer and videographer on the golf course to all the best photo spots and even our vendors were raiving they loved this man. I let them know the entire staff was this awesome. It is honestly the perfect venue. I would highly recommend this venue and our event coordinator Anna Williams to any couple wanting a beautiful and stress free wedding.

Stayed here for a wedding. It’s a nice property. Courteous service.
Any place with a dress code though, is taking themselves too seriously. (Tailored slacks or bermuda style shorts, dress denim pants, collared shirts for men. Tailored shorts, slacks or golf skirt, or appropriate sundresses for ladies.)
The rooms were fine, but pretty simple in terms of furnishing. The walls are thin… we could hear the TV and the toilet flushing next door. The rooms have Espresso machines, which is a nice perk. They’ll charge you $ 3.50 if you drink the bottled water they leave in the room though.

Very badly understaffed. On the phone for 30 minutes and called 6 times and still no luck.
Tried to cancel three rooms several times. In the phone message they say your home away from home. Not likely if customer service is overworked and unavailable when you need them.
Management needs to seriously consider a career move if they can’t fix this flat tire. I am so glad I am not staying here and cancelled. It would have ruined my cousin’s wedding party.

Long story short, they lost my reservation and I had no room to stay in.
Long story long, i booked a room for friday night, 2 weeks in advance. The week prior, i called and requested a change from friday night to saturday night. The lady said it would be no problem. The change was made, and i asked if i needed a new confirmation number. «Nope. All is taken care of, it’s all changed with your existing confirmation number». Saturday, i call in the afternoon to let them know i’ll be checking in around 9−10pm. «ok, np. See you tonight». When we show up, they tell me that my reservation was for the night prior, however, my card hasn’t been charged, because they were holding it on file to charge me when i arrived…
The girl at the front counter seemed irritated that she had to deal with this, and disappeared for about 15−20min. Of course, when she did come back, she had no rooms for us and no real options. She offered us a comp night in the future, but there’s no way i’m coming back here after this.

Hotel has great location and reasonable rates but SO in need of some TLC… cracked tiles in bathroom… broken lampshade… dirty walls… broken furniture… and when we asked what «gives» the hotel just said they were aware of condition of room. Bar and restaurant are nice and never too crowded. It’s a shame they don’t respect the hotel more w upkeep. Stay away from room 123

I’m a wedding photographer and shot a couple of weddings at Morgan Run in my career and I must say its one of the Finest Golf Course wedding venues. The staff was super attentive and made the day go very smoothly. When we went around to take photos, the gentlemen happily took us around in the golf cart and we ended up with some amazing photos for the Bride and Groom. It’s such a beautiful all in one venue and my brides and grooms have always had a positive experience here. Here’s a recent wedding I shot there:

AMAZING!!!
Ok maybe I’m a little biased because I had my wedding here in 2012, but this place is truly stunning. It’s located in Rancho Santa Fe right off of Via De La Valle.
First off, the staff is incredible. Everyone from the person greeting you at the front to the waitstaff and everyone in between has been completely welcoming and hospitable.
Since we are big foodies, the restaurant manager was able to accommodate my wedding request of having 5 small plates of food come out one after the other.
The wedding menu we created was as follows:
— heirloom tomato tart with bacon onion jam and wild arugula
— ricotta cheese ravioli, king mushroom, flowering thyme broth
— seared diver scallop, sweet pea purée, golden caviar butter sauce
— red wine braised short rib, Yukon gold potato, garlic confit
— rosemary chicken, saffron pearl couscous, white wine sauce
They also let us bring in our own craft beer from stone brewing.
Overall this place is super accommodating!
Our families were also happy that there is a hotel on site so they could golf all day, drink all night, and not have to worry about driving anywhere.

The lobby is deceiving-​it looks nice, remodeled and clean…
The hallways to my room? Not so much. It looked like a rundown crack house… Sorry, to be so blunt but it was absolutely horrifying. There was trash in the hallway, the steps to the second floor was FILTHY. Almost to the point where I wanted to turn back around and demand my money back. There was a smell… I couldn’t describe in the hallway.
The room? Quite the opposite or so I hope seeing I slept there… The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. It was a night and day experience from the hallway debacle.
I wouldn’t avoid this place… the grounds are beautiful-​but have some pride in your hallways and upkeep of buildings if you want people to return.
