History
Established in 2009.
Dakota Thyme is on the edge of the prairie in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota. My great great grandparents homesteaded in Dakota Territory in the 1880s, just a hundred miles from the home of Laura Ingalls — a ten-day covered wagon ride in those days. Education and careers called my family to faraway places.
Food was central to family gatherings. Both of my grandmothers were incredible and inspirational cooks. Grandma Olivia masterfully crafted hearty meals from blessings from the family farm. Grandma Adeline was a prolific baker. Both left a legacy of great food to family and friends embedded in our hearts and on our hips.
In 1994 we returned to SD. In 2009 the Dakota Thyme food blog was born and in 2012 the blog transitioned to a Bakery, Deli, and Market at the Shops at Main Street. We have a dedicated and skilled team that uses the highest quality ingredients (many that are local, natural, and organic) to prepare delightful meals and bakery items for our guests.
