I never knew buffalo/​bison were so tender and juicy, and that it can be delivered to your door from Rapid City, SD. Many snacks, steaks, loafs, and many other types of it are available. I’ll be eating this instead of beef now so the rainforests can be a little bit safer. Plus they make pet food! A great things when your pets are suffering from IBS and sensitivities. My cholesterol is high, so the doctor told me no more beef. However, a friend with even worse cholesterol was told he could eat just about all the grassfed bison he could want and it wouldn’t clog his arteries, and recommended Wild Idea. I went to their website and it felt too good to be true: healthy, humanely raised meat delivered straight to my door! I figured I’d get the steakhouse bundle so I could get free shipping.
At first I was slightly disappointed in the taste. 100% grassfed bison meat tasted a bit different than the beef I buy from my grocery or butcher. It has very little fat, and has a bit of a sweet taste. To counterbalance the sweetness, I usually just add a bunch of bold flavors like garlic, onion, spices, peppers, etc, and that does the trick. Other than that, I cook it just like I would cook a thick steak.
I highly recommend trying bison to see if its your cup of tea. I’ve even lost a couple of pounds since switching to bison from grain fed beef. On my next order I’m going to try some of the more premium cuts, like bone in ribeye, t bone, and specialties like bacon and pastrami.

— Terrible tasting buffalo meat
I was in here this past Saturday and although the hours are convenient, the buffalo meat was just terrible when I cooked it. I don’t know what it is about their meats. They all seemed to be a very light pink color. I’m used to seeing dark red smoked meats but this place doesn’t seem to smoke the meats that much. The buffalo meat was very fatty and tasted so strange. I will not be going back.

The recent review that was left is very unfair. Everything I have ordered from them has been above expectations! All of the steaks have been wonderful. We love the ground bison and it has become a staple in our house. Everything tastes better using the buffalo meat compared to store bought ground beef. Even the grass fed beef we bought does not even compare to Wild Idea meat. I would recommend to start with a sampler pack or a monthly special and you will not be disappointed! It is definitely worth the extra cost for healthy organic, humanely raised meat :) Thank you Wild Idea!

The order arrived with everything still frozen.
Dog food fine… some packages are a bit gamy smelling; I think it’s the kidney.
My half pound packages of ground are perfect for cooking for one.
I’m very happy I gave them another try.
I think I won’t order again during the summer.
I still think their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, but I want to support returning buffalo to the prairie lands.

I ordered three times from this company.
I make food for my small dog companion (who does LOVE her food) and bought the Premium Ground Buffalo to use as the base for her food because I really like the story about returning the buffalo to the prairie. And I like to use what little money I have to vote with my dollars. I’m 66 and living on SS and help from my daughter.
I’ll slight myself to make sure my dog is healthy.
I figured if she didn’t like the buffalo, I can eat it.

Tips and Ground Buffalo were great.
The meatloaf was ok chile starter. because when put in a loaf pan and baked (per directions) a large amount of fluid came out and the stuff never became a loaf but as I said … pretty good chile. Oh well, I thought everybody makes mistakes. I wrote to them about it and never heard back.
Second order: $ 160.03 April 15, 2015 … «Oh cool! They sell dog food that includes bone and organ, I’ll try it to see if she will eat it.» And I can cut up the short rib strips and it’s cupcakes for the pup.

I figured I could bite the bullet this month and not have to pay the $ 30 shipping fee for another three months or so. And the next couple of months the dog food would be covered.
So I bought 20 packages of their pet food.

It was packed so the small packages were on the outside all were thawed a bit but one was completely thawed but still cold.
I tried feeding her from that package first, She sniffed it and walked away…
I thought maybe it was just that package and thawed (in the fridge) another package. She turned it down. It smells horrible too.
This is not a small family company or if they are they have a corporate business adviser because the solution I have been offered is a 15% on my next order.
That doesn’t even pay the shipping fee. It’s a nothing offer. I am outraged.
They offer no refund not even a partial one and say I cannot return the twenty packages of pet food. Which neither of us can eat.

Wild Idea Buffalo is a great resource if you’re in the market for buffalo (a.k.a.bison). WIB is the primary provider of grass-​fed, humanely and naturally raised and humanely harvested buffalo meat in the United States.
American Buffalo is what sustained the Plains tribes who once roamed freely as hunter-​gatherers across the beautiful Great Plains of the United States. And certainly all the early western settlers would have been a-​goner without this noble animal.
Sadly, buffalo were also hunted for sport by western settlers and back in those dark days of the early 19^th century they were purposely killed off by ever-​encroaching settlers for no other reason than hoping to decimate Native American populations for whom bison were food, clothing, and shelter and objects of religious worship.
This noble animal was once almost entirely wiped out.
But thanks to many people who love buffalo for the magnificent animals they are, they are back in good number and although they may not be roaming the Plains in the millions like they once used to, there are many now who are carefully tending and raising them.
The Wild Idea Buffalo company sells healthy and wholesome buffalo meat products. The meats they sell are on the pricier side but as I’ve mentioned in a previous review it’s a matter of quality, health, ethics and voting with my pocket book.
If I believe in the practices companies like this espouse, then I feel committed to support them with the hope that other businesses will opt to practice in this manner. As unlikely as it might seem, it would be wonderful to put factory farming practices out of business, but even making a dent in lessening it, is something.
If grass-​fed, prairie raised buffalo were good enough for the Plains tribes for generations, they are certainly good enough for me and my family.

If you knew me in person, you’d know I never say anything nice about anybody or anything unless they REALLY deserve it. Wild Idea buffalo definitely deserves it. I’ve been ordering from them for several years now – many thanks to my friend who recommended them to begin with after my one bad experience with buffalo meat from Walmart! – and they have never let me down. Pricey, yes, but SO GOOD – and fast friendly service too. Give some thought to the way you cook this fine buffalo meat and you will never eat beef again. It’s not really difficult to prepare well – just different.
