DeLucia’s Brick Oven Pizza

Found this place on Unilocal & checked it out after work. Just moved to the area so was eager to check out the restaurants in my new neighborhood.
I walked in this place and almost accidentally walked into the kitchen. they don’t have a door separating the cash register and the kitchen so that you can actually see the brick-​oven cooking your pizza/​them flipping the dough. It was so cool!!! The guy that took my order was so nice and welcoming. A few people came in while I was waiting for my pizza to be done & he knew all of them by first name so you could tell DeLucia’s has a ton of regular customers.
On top of all this, my pizza was excellent & piping hot! I got pepperoni & garlic. I’ll definitely be back.

If you’re ok to be tossed out at 1pm, you might enjoy lunch. If you’re eating alone, dont expect to be seated. Every table had a reserved sign even when empty. Wait til dinner and try Stans Chich’s in Bound Brook, you’ll be glad you did.

Love love their pizza! The calzones are amazing! I always go for the pepperoni calzone and pizza. Their calzones do not have ricotta but it tastes just as good without it! The pizza although is a bit different than any other pizza place. You need to tell yourself I feel like having delucias tonight. It’s not your typical pie. It’s a little more on the crispier side. That’s just how they cook it. I order atleast once or twice a month from this place. It’s been in business for years. The only place that can compare to them is Brothers Pizza on Route 33.

Holy cow — brick oven pizza deliciousness! How did I not discover DeLucia’s earlier?
This place is a hole in the wall with basically a few options: calzones and pizzas. Pizzas come in two sizes, small or large. They have a few speciality pizzas listed such as buffalo chicken, chicken parm, margarita, etc.
But, the true winner in my opinion: get fresh garlic on your pizza and add the pepperoni or sausage. Oh my… Spectacular!
Note that their pizzas are a bit on the thinner side. Some parts of the crust are slightly charred more than others. I have had one or two incidents where some slices were a little too blackened for my taste (not surprised since it is cooked in a brick oven).
The staff there is young, friendly, and hard working. Lunch hours are a bit odd, 11AM-​1PM. Pizzas during peak lunch hours can take slightly longer to prepare so we always call 15 mins in advance to place our order. The guys in the back always have our pizza hot and ready when we step through the door!
Oh, one more thing — $ 15 minimum to pay with your card and they also sell their dough in the fridge in front of their counter!

Over cooked pizza, owner needs mental help. He was yelling at his help, Yelling. Got mouthy with me when I asked a question, and after we left my two grandsons tell us he pushed them out of the door way and told them to get out of the door way. We do understand, it was busy the kids might have been in the way, but they are not his kids, they said he was loud. I wish I had called the Police. I will never return, I believe the other review that says similar complaints. Please don’t go here, and if you love children don’t bring them here. The fathers of the girls that work here should here how he talks to there Daughters, he is Disgraceful.

It’s one of the toughest life decisions we all have to face when we move to a new area — «Where can I get good pizza?»
I was faced with this dilemma 2 years ago. I searched far and wide, tried many duds in the process, but eventually stumbled upon an article on
calling Delucias one of the best slices in Jersey.
I tried it that very day and will agree, we could certainly put Delucias up against some noble competitors! And trust me when I say, just the plain pie is the best. No extra frills needed, the pizza flavor is there and the texture is right.
It was a daunting task, and left me uncomfortable in a new area for some time, but now that I know I have Delucias… I feel right at home.

Pizza burned (crust black and hard), service poor and extremely slow (about 40 minutes). When proprietor or manager was told about burned pizza he became indignant and rude. It seems he knew before we said anything that we had received poor quality pizza and just didn’t care. Sadly, other tables had pizzas that didn’t appear burned and were delivered more quickly.

We are regulars! Best pizza ever. We get the sausage and black olive. Don’t even have to leave my name. Chris knows who it’s for. Love it!!!

Best pizza ever since forever!!! Everytime I have sent someone from Italia to this place they have rave reviews on the pizza!!! Always great and friendly staff

My boyfriend raves about this place. He ran in to get a pizza and when he came out I took one look at it and said oh hell no. It was burnt as hell. Took one bite, picked up the phone and called delivery from somewhere else. I don’t understand the hype. I will never go back.

The place is old schoold but they make pretty good pizza. Not as salty as others and both the sauce and cheese is good

Popped in with my boy to grab some pizza and calzones. Enjoyed the old school atmosphere in the authentic pizza. Was great with a Dr Pepper as well. I’m not sure I would call the best in New Jersey but I enjoy the experience.

I’m happy to see that other people are giving this place bad reviews finally. I was beginning to think I was quite crazy. I ordered a calzone today figured it would have ricotta in it. I’ve never had a calzone that did not. I came home with a somehow tough ham and tough doesn’t even taste like mozzarella cheese smooshed between a pie crust no taste and sauce tasted like water. I’m so happy I used my gift certificate here there is no other reason I would be going here and definitely would never want to give them any of my money.

One of the worst I’ve ever had. Overcooked and overpriced. Maybe it was just us, but ours was really burnt. The service was indifferent, but the guy did offer to give us another. Too many other places around that are better.

100 year old brick oven and service with a smile, is what you get when you walk into the unassuming restaurant. It’s off the beaten path in Raritan.
Look to the wall on your left, that’s the menu. It’s simple. Red sauce, white pizza and only a few gourmet pizzas. They offer calzones and salads but this is all about the PIZZA.
Fire up that brick oven and 15 minutes later you have a perfectly done pizza.
Here is what I liked:
–the crust was crunchy, thin and still retained a nice chew.
–right amount of cheese.
–not oily or greasy.
–fresh spinach on top!
Wasn’t a huge fan of the red sauce, and thought it could have used a little more. But will definitely add to my pizza rotation in imaginary central, NJ.

A good spot for a thin-​crust pie. It’s substantially better than the other pizza joints in the area, but honestly, that’s not saying much. I’ve had much better thin-​crust in North Jersey, but this place satisfies the craving if I need something local.

One of the oldest pizzerias in NJ
Ok, I’m a pizza fanatic. I love pizza. I could eat pizza for breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, late night, 1am, ok I’m sure you get the idea.
I used to have a blog «Jersey Eats» and DeLucia’s was on of the first posts I made for the blog.
Firstly, this is not your average Jersey pizza. They use a wetter dough recipe which most people in this area are not use to. They also don’t proof their dough for a very long time. I’m estimating at most a 1 ½ proofing time (yeah my name is Baker and I like to bake bread… Shut up!) this causes a chewy dough with a crisp outer finish.
Secondly, this is not your average Jersey pizza. No where else in this state have I had a pizza with the same consistency over and over again. The crust always has the same crunch and chew, the sauce is always the same (very tomatoey and slightly spicy), and the cheese (your average pre-​packaged mozzarella). I have been eating here for the last 18 years and nothing has changed (in my opinion, this is a good thing).
My main reason for giving this pizzeria 5 stars is because, it’s damn good pizza. Pizza differs from region to region and I have found many pizzerias to be very inconsistent from baker to baker, from year to year, even from day to day.
With DeLucia’s you are going to get the same pizza pie, consistently, from decade to decade. (And made with love from a nearly 100 year old brick oven) What could be better?

Good brick oven pizza. I barely made it in their short lunch window: 11am-​1pm. I had the small cheese $ 6.30ish — maybe 12 inches in diameter?
Very chewy crust, nice sauce and cheese ratios. Sauce has a nice tang to it. Yet it was still just good. I think I enjoyed the brick oven at Osteria Procaccini (
) over in Kingston more.
DeLucia’s is a great price though. Neat atmosphere, not ‘done up’ at all, very home-​y.

Great place… My girl and I were in a mood for some good brick oven pizza. We decided to swing by this place for a nice little dinner night pizza. This place was straight from the 80s, maybe even 70s. The place had straight up just seats and tables on the right side. Menu is on the wall on your left, and straight ahead is the kitchen where they make your pizza! Thats also where you order your pizza. Unless you decide to sit down right away, then a waitress will come and ask for your order.
We had two large pies, one pepperoni and one plain. This place is considered the best plain pizza in NJ, and we definitely knew why. The crust was definitely crispy, almost burnt crisp! Some people like that, some people dont. We dont mind it. The cheese was just right, the tomato sauce could have been a bit more, but I still enjoyed it! Oh yeah, CASH only guys! Make sure you bring cash otherwise you will end up going across the street and get cash from the atm machine in one of those quick checks/​7 eleven type place.
The staff was nice and good. Place was clean, and looked very old school. But who cares, the food was good and thats all that matters!
