Raton KOA

Very clean with spacious sites. Good areas for dog walking and one fenced in area to allow them off-​leash several trash cans available for dog waste. Off-​season a bit and was quiet. Very well maintained, grass mowed and looking good, picnic tables at sites. Owner at front desk was very friendly and talkative, was there after the closing hours when I arrived, even loaned me a cable for TV since I didn’t have one with me (I am new at this, ok? lol). Power, water, and dump worked well and easy to hook up. Very easy in and out.

We don’t often stay at KOAs and weren’t sure what to expect. Check-​in and directions to our site was great and easy. The KOA backs up to a street, separated by a chain link fence. The street is super busy, and the neighborhood seems to be favored by people who like very loud pickups. Also someone nearby must be running some sort of kennel as one could hear dozens of dogs barking, all night. Fortunately, with the windows closed, we couldn’t hear most of the street noise. The campground is very clean and very well-​maintained. However, this is one step better than staying in a WalMart parking lot, I wouldn’t call it camping.

I have always been partial to the KOA and always make it a point to stay if I am going through town. I love the peace and quiet. It’s not the fanciest park in the world, but it’s a clean one and the staff and owners will go out of their way to help you. I got site 21 both times in a row that I stayed there and I think I’ll keep that one if it’s available.

This is the only KOA where we have experienced the dump station being full. When we dumped, with no warning, everything overflowed. When talking to the check out clerk, he said that this has been happening. DONT USE THE DUMP STATION. The manager did give us a discount.

Exceptionally nice owners, really friendly, and very helpful. The restrooms were clean. Take a walk around the old lava flow at sunset with a friend. Lots of wildlife – jackrabbits mostly, pretty as the desert goes. Has cable with 75 channels. They provided the coax for our hookup. Like I said, nice folks.
