Raton Pass Inn

What a charming find! The Raton Pass Inn is an old style motel and may not look like much from the outside, but we couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay!
The owner/​manager, Jan, was friendly and accommodating from the first phone call. She has obviously put a lot of effort into decorating the rooms and making them comfortable and welcoming – there was even a tiny bowl of dark chocolate Hershey Kisses on the desk. And our room was SPOTLESSLY CLEAN – I’ve eaten off of tables that weren’t as clean as our bathroom floor was. The building was old but (along with the furniture) appeared to be in good repair, with fresh paint and good water pressure. Our room had a microwave, mini-​fridge, and good wifi strength/​speed. The parking lot was clean and outside areas were well lit. There’s a small free continental breakfast. Oh, and did I mention the dog fee was only $ 2?
My ONLY complaint (the reason I knocked it down a star) was that the beds weren’t great. The mattresses were not very soft (personal preference) and the sheets were just almost scratchy, though the pillow cases were a different make and much softer.
For the traveler on a budget and/​or traveling with an animal companion, this was an excellent value. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we stop in Raton in the future!
