D’Amicis makes the best cakes in the area. I have no idea why people are giving it bad reviews unless they’ve never had a cake here or don’t know what a good pastry is supposed to taste like. We’ve bought several of our kids party cakes here and have had nothing but good reviews from our guests. Highly recommend it here. I can’t review the regular food because I’ve never tried it but the pastries and cupcakes are great and the custom cakes are fantastic!

This was our first visit to the bakery — we went for breakfast pastries and coffee. The store was clean and modern, staff was upbeat and friendly. We were pleased until we received our food. We ordered two«uno» sandwiches on house bread, one with ham and one with bacon and cheese. We also ordered an iced green tea and a cappuccino. We got a sandwich with no bacon, the iced tea was so sweet that we mistook it for apple juice and the cappuccino had more foam then coffee and was so thick it was almost undrinkable. For $ 15 we’d expected a little more. Will not return for breakfast — maybe the desserts will be better.

4pm on a thursday, no one out front. Stood waiting for over 5 mins. Barely interested teenager walks out, takes my order. Cappuccino was stone cold, milk barely frothed. Lemon Sq was stodge. Very dissapointing.

Cheese cake was obviously old. Top half was gummy. Jam on top of cheese cake was almost dry. Would not recommend.

Great coffee and cappuccinos. They are very busy around lunch time but mid-morning time is fine. They have excellent sandwiches as well as delicious pastries. Sometimes the wait staff moves at a more leisurely pace but overall the service is good. Love that they’re in Reading!

Yes a big fat 5 stars!!! You should always order your cakes here! I was told to go to D’Amici’s Bakery for a birthday cake for a friend. I ordered a two tier cake for a birthday party. What I got was amazing!!! Two big tiers. Chocolate. Fresh rasperries lining both tiers. It was so impressive and so delicious I will ALWAYS get my cakes here! Thank you!

This is the friendliest, most accommodating bistro/coffee place I’ve seen in the US. Regular customers are like family here and as a new customer you get sucked into the good food and atmosphere. I’m a big fan of the Santa Fe breakfast sandwich. Checkitout

I’ve come in several times to this location. My kids love the display of desserts so they ask to go in though I’ve never been wowed enough to return on my own initiative. Don’t get me wrong, the cakes taste good but I’m not impressed by their ingredients. I’ve had lunch there. Definitely didn’t think it was worth the money. Coffee wasn’t great either. My 6 year old(who generally is the least picky eater you’ll meet) even said it wasn’t very good. Service is typically rude and seems antsy when you tell them you’re still deciding. Final straw-I ordered a birthday cake from them. The party was on Thanksgiving Day. I called with a little more than week before thanksgiving assuming they’d be busy on Thanksgiving and I should get my order in. I called and she took my order and said it’ll be ready thanksgiving day. I asked, if I were to call with any changes, how much time do you need? She says 2 days should be good. The cake itself might be made, but I could make changes to the design if I’d like. Great. So I call a couple of days before thanksgiving to finalize my order and ask if they could add a name to the cake(my daughter shares a bday w her cousin and aunt – who were all going to be at the party so I wanted all 3 names on the cake). The girl I speak to says it’s too late, the cake is already complete(noted: won’t be eating fresh cake). Some back and forth later-she insists it can’t be done before the cake is picked up. Then I said, ok could you add an unfrosted cupcake to my order(the birthday girl hates frosting). She says no bc as my order has been fulfilled she can’t add anything on to it bc it’ll get overlooked. But she reassures me I can just buy a cupcake when I pick up the cake and scrape off the frosting when I get home. Thanks. Again some back and forth – you’re a bakery, surely you’ll have some unfrosted cupcakes between now and thanksgiving. I wasn’t getting anywhere. Annoyed, I hung up and left my order as is. Day of thanksgiving/the birthday party, my husband went to pick up the cake. They didn’t have it. First they told him the name wasn’t even in the system. Then they said, the order was in for the Friday after thanksgiving. Then the final excuse was, we never paid a deposit. The times I spoke to them, they never asked for a deposit. They weren’t providing much reason for their mix us. To help remediate the problem, they did give us 2 free cakes(they don’t have larger cakes in their case, so they gave us 2 smaller to help feed the number of guests at our party). In the end, we got a few frustrating interactions with their employees and a dessert time story of rude business ethics. In all fairness, the cakes my husband came home with did taste good but the sour taste left after the whole debacle doesn’t compensate. That’s the last time we’ll be going there.

I like to keep it short and sweet: the staff is nice enough, except for one woman who’s rude and curt. The coffee’s mediocre and you have to add a pound of sugar and syrup for it to be drinkable(mix it yourself — they don’t). When I first stopped in I stayed a good ten minutes waiting to order because they completely ignored me and didn’t bother to mention that they were closing. I wouldn’t say this place is awful, but they don’t seem to care enough about their patrons. Two stars for location and food that I’m assuming must be redeemable.

After visiting D’Amici’s Reading about 6 times now, I thought it was time to do a Unilocal review. First of all, the food is actually very good and creative. The Viva la France is my favorite breakfast sandwich. Reuben good at lunch. The pastries are also good and interesting. My biggest disappointment however has to be with the people who work there. My goodness they are either really unhappy or they want the customers to be unhappy. They are regularly rude, short and impatient with the customers. Although it is distressing to perhaps see another Reading business go belly up, this is the direction D’Amici’s is heading unless they rethink their relationship with their customers and their business model at the Reading location.

Sorry to say but this place despite the nice ambiance and décor had the WORST Cupcake I have ever had. I was so very disappointed as this new Bakery is in my home town but Cupcake City has 100% Percent best in town! A few of us went here after dining at Fusion across the street and much to my dismay I had to throw my cupcake away… It tasted like cardboard or maybe as it was end of day it may had just sat there all day… No Excuse so even though the shop is appealing on the outside I will NOT be going Back… Hope this business can get it right Or at least make a decent cupcake– how difficult could that be???

Iced coffee is good. Pastries are usually good. Sandwiches are overpriced but decent. The service is awful and the employees are rude. It’s a good place to grab a coffee and study for a few hours. Wouldn’t recommend it for much else.

I am a fan. This place is comfy and everything is fresh. I love the breakfast sandwiches. Very yummy with real whole ingredients. My sandwich is always done in a reasonable amount of time. Very good coffee and pastries, too. I would not go by the low reviews and give it a chance. I deducted 1 star because my daughter didn’t like her hot chocolate and the cookies we got were a bit dry. I haven’t had cake from here. Maybe for my birthday!

It’s comfortable and cozy, the perfect place to get some work done(wifi!). But the food is even better. I had a breakfast sandwich which was delicious and fresh. No fake ingredients, everything is real — how often do you get a real freshly cracked egg on a breakfast sandwich instead of a horrible yellow patty? Not often. Plus everyone is friendly. So ignore the low rating and come in!!!

My husband and I have now given D’amici’s in Reading many more tries. I’m soooo sorry to say that each time it is deeply disappointing. Consistently we have experienced: dirty tables and floors(when the place is empty and teenage staff is clearly available and able to refresh the place!) overflowing trash areas, slow and seemingly clueless staff, and even,(YES, EVEN!)refrigerator«burnt», stale pastries – more than once! We are so sad that this is the case, since it has a HUGEAMOUNT of potential and, frankly, if operated properly, we would go there at least twice a week. Unfortunately, we now actively avoid it, because it is so consistently disappointing – to the point of ridiculous. Owners? Where are you? Please train your staff better and pay attention. We really want to love you!

We intended to visit a different bakery based on Unilocal reviews but upon arrival, they were closed as the hours listed on Unilocal were incorrect. We took a walk around the corner and discovered D’Amici’s. We were in search of a hot drink and dessert. My friend ordered a vanilla latte and the boston cream tower. I, an earl grey tea and two mini desserts: cream puff and chocolate torte. As I was waiting for my friend outside, I scanned the Unilocal reviews for this place and much to our surprise, we were pretty pleased with our desserts. Many of the negative reviews were about the slow service which we did somewhat agree. It wasn’t very busy and it did take longer than anticipated to be served. Though our servers were very nice(young girls, possibly in high school) they could use some training to become more efficient. My friend’s boston cream was fresh and tasty, not too sweet. My cream puff filing was very light(whipped cream) and the shell was good, nothing to rave about. The chocolate mini torte was fresh and slightly on the sweet side. Our drinks were as expected. Based on our experience today, we wouldn’t hesitate to stop in again.

They are working their way to 4 starts. I wish I could give 3.5 starts. When they opened service was terrible and it took forever to get your breakfast. They just opened and were working out the kinks so that is why I have continued to go back. Fast forward and the service has improved. The lobster tail pastry is incredible as is their peanut butter cupcake. I have had several of the breakfast sandwiches and they are really good too. I will say their lunch sandwiches are just not my cup of tea. My take on why it takes so long to be served breakfast. This is not a breakfast joint people. It is a bakery that sells breakfast sandwiches. Their kitchen is not equipped like a restaurant would be equipped. Everything is made to order, so I can accept it takes a while. Everything improves every day with the exception of the counter staff. I find some of them boarding on rude. As the last review wrote, I did not witness anyone screaming or threatening a bad review for poor service. The girl /young woman she was definitely 1718 y/o seemed bothered that I placed an order. I don”t expect them to break out in the stars and stripes, but a smile, good morning and thank you would be nice. I will say that though I continue to patron the establishment, I do not goes as often because of the attitude and sometimes the wait is not worth the quality.

I went here once several months ago. I ordered a coffee and breakfast sandwich(basic egg/cheese/ham). I could have raised a chicken for my egg sandwich in the time it took them to bring me my food. Furthermore, I could have raised a chicken that didn’t have brown disgusting clumps in it like the egg I received on my sandwich. Halfway through, I saw what looked like a mini-tumor that resembled a piece of poop. They were kind and apologized profusely and offered to make me another(NOTHANKS. It took me about 4 days to regain my appetite and 2 minutes of dry heaving. I certainly don’t want to experiment with another one of your poop eggs). Fast forward to yesterday. Decided to give them one more chance. Another 25 minute wait for a breakfast sandwich. While the food was better, I do not understand what takes so long. There wasn’t a line the entire time I was waiting, so what’s the deal? Then the man from the kitchen brought out my food and proceeded to stick his fingers in my sandwich to make sure it was the right order. Hellooooo! At least do that so I can’t see it — maybe before you come out to deliver food. That was my last time in this place. A real shame given their delicious pastries and cakes.

I was very excited to see another bakery open up in Reading, until I tried their food. This bakery offers a large selection of baked goods as well as traditional sandwich meals. Their bakery is good, primarily focused on Italian style deserts with a few traditional American sweets. They offer a nice selection of sweets and for the most part they are above average baked goods. Then there is the«meals» part of the D’Amicis. The meals are made by a bunch of high school girls who haven’t quite mastered the art of making a simple sandwich. I ate there twice for lunch during when the bakery wasn’t all that crowded. Each time it took over 20 minutes to assemble a sandwich(and compliment it with a bag of chips). somehow I get the feeling that they are following a picture that illustrates what types of items to put into each sandwich. Absolutely boring and sadly it tastes like a kid made you a sandwich. Void of taste and surprising how long it takes to make a sandwich. If you want a great sandwich thats also quite unique, I’d recommend Pamplemousse. I will come back in another six months and see if things have improved…
